CH.7 Jack

As I sat by her bedside my mind went back to the other day. I had woken up earlier than what I normally do. I guess I was just too excited to see Rose. I did my morning routine with a smile. I’m sure every male has said this, but I really did have the most beautiful mate. I couldn’t understand how I never noticed her before. Actually I did know and it made me sick. It was because she was an Omega. I never paid much attention to them. It seemed as if I was the only one who didn’t see her.  Doc’s wife had me step out when I first brought her here. At first I was going to take her to the hospital, but with the last of her strength. She told me Doc’s and I knew what she wanted. Now with her in just a hospital gown I could see her arms and legs. Even with the blanket over her legs. I could still see all the scars that tattered her skin. The sight both broke my heart and infuriated me. Where had I been when she got them? Was I hanging out with Ryan having a good time? While she was somewhere being tortured. No, I couldn’t go down that train of thought, or I might put another whole in the wall.  I could tell by the set up down here that this was not the first time Rose has been in this bed. Doc and Lulu had explained to me that they had all this set up when they realized how bad it was getting. They told me that she would refuse to go to the hospital. They even tried to get her to tell my dad, but she wouldn’t. She would tell them that he wouldn’t believe her, and it would make it worse. Who wouldn’t believe her? With one look you can see that she has been through hell.  I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard a whimpering. I was about to link Doc when Rose gave a bloody scream. “NO!” She started thrashing around. Trying to get away from whoever in her dream. Doc and Lulu came running in. Through all the battles I have fought. All the tourchers I have sat through. I have never seen something like this. Rose was kicking, hitting, and screaming. I was in a trance, rooted to the ground unable to move. Doc snapped me out of it. “Jack, help hold her down while we strap her in.” It wasn’t until then that I noticed the thick leather cuffs strapped around the bed. It was a scene straight from a mental hospital.  Ten minutes later we finally were able to get her strapped down. I watched as Doc injected a sleep aid into her IV. He had to put it in her other hand because during her struggle she had ripped it out. “Come on son, she will be sleeping like a rock now.” Doc said, clapping a wrinkled hand on my shoulder. We walked up the basement stairs into the kitchen. I sat at the table while Doc filled two cups of coffee. Coming to the table Doc sat next to me and handed me one of the cups. I stare blankly into the dark liquid. “She will be okay. No matter how beaten she is. Our Rose always pulls through. She is the strongest wolf I have ever met. I have seen a lot as a doctor. I have seen some of the best warriors not survive a quarter of what she has. If they did it was only physically. Mentally they would lose themselves. Not Rose she can still laugh. She still wakes up every morning hoping for better.” Doc tells me with pride. Over the past couple of days I have learned a lot from the old couple. Somethings they would hold back. Telling me that Rose would have to be the one to answer some of my questions.  There is one thing I couldn’t grasp. “How can you watch her go through this and still be so calm?” I was on the verge of snapping anyone's neck if they so much as breathed away I didn’t like. While he sat there looking like this was a normal afternoon. Maybe it was for him. Maybe this was their routine.  “Oh my boy, Lulu and I love Rose like our own. We never did have any pups. Seeing her go through this takes a toll on us every time, but if we let our emotions rule us. We wouldn’t be able to give Rose the care she needs.”  “So you two are the only ones that know? Does her parents know?” There was a growl from behind me. I turned to see Lulu come into the kitchen.  Those people don’t deserve to call themselves parents. She is strong, beautiful, and intelligent. Those people don’t even see her let alone care about her. Leaving her alone for weeks, sometimes months. Caring only about themselves, about their wants and needs.” Her voice was full of disgust. For a moment I was intimidated by the old woman. You could feel the hatred she had for the couple roll off of her. When she was close enough Doc pulled her into his lap.  “I know it’s okay. She is not alone, she has us.” He said to her as she settled into him.  “At least now some of them are getting what they deserve.” She said, more relaxed now.  “Do you know of anyone else? I have tried asking Rose, but she won’t tell me. She just keeps saying there won’t be a pack left.” I needed to know. I wanted to put everyone who has caused her harm six feet under.  “She refuses to tell us. Given that she is attacked at many times of a day. That there are different size marks on her. I would say that what she says is true. There is no way only a handful of people does this to her.” Doc says with grief.  “We have tried so many times, but that’s the way she is. If she doesn't want to tell you something she won't. We call her the vault. The only way you get the treasure inside is if you have the combination.” Lulu says with a smile. You could see how proud she is of Rose. It makes me breathe a little easier knowing that there are people around her that love her.  I finish my coffee and put the cup in the sink. Feeling the need to be by her I tell them that I’m going to sit with her. Before I left Lulu gave me a tray with a teapot and two glasses. Telling me to have her drink this when she wakes up.  I sat next to Rose’s bed watching her sleep. When I got down here I had unstrapped her. Wanting her to be comfortable when she woke up. I sat there for twenty minutes before she started to wake up. I see her hazel eyes peeking through her cracked lids. “Hey” She crooked out.  “Shh, don’t talk here, drink this.” I tell her, holding the cup of tea to her lips. She took a few sips before draining it. When she pulled away from the cup a little bit of tea dribbled out down her chin. I slowly wiped it away with the pad of my thumb. She leaned into my touch and my heart started to melt. I have been trying to keep my hands to myself so as to not scare her. Her wanting to feel my touch had my heart hammering. Could it be that she feels a ghost of the bond? No, she doesn't turn eighteen for a few more weeks. This was all her. She was starting to open up. Starting to let me in, wanting me to be close to her. I pulled away to set the cup down. When I turned back to her Rose had her arms up and open to me. Asking me silently to hug her. I smiled as I wrapped my arms around her. She felt perfect against me. I never wanted to let her go. I would never let her go. Here in my arms was the safest place for her. I don’t know how long we stayed like that, but at the sound of a through being cleared. I withdrew from her standing tall. Ready to shield her if I had to. Nothing is going to harm her ever again.
