CHAPTER 54

When I woke up. I checked the time on my leaves design clock wall and saw that it was already 6:07 p.m. "Hmm," I pursed my lips as I get up on my bed. I immediately looked at the wounds and bruises on my knees. It's not yet recovering of course, but it's not hurt that much anymore. I think I could come over to Crisha's house. I miss that crazy b***h anyways. After a moment of staring at my knees, a wide silly smile crept on my lips as I remembered Viel and our conversation. Well, there's nothing really big deal with that so plain and casual conversation but it means a lot to me. “Your father didn’t see this yet, Karina, you better have a nice reason…” I was mumbling while making my way toward the bathroom and careful in every step, good heavens, I’m not going to let myself stumble down for the second time just because of my blunder move. Perhaps, your clumsiness is inborn. My devil little voice in my head alleged. After I took a bath, I decided to call Crisha to say that I’ll be able to join her and her cousins for a movie marathon. “Hello there, KC! See I knew you were coming!” She said happily. I mentally roll my eyes, I haven’t said anything yet and here she is confirming it on her own. I’m going anyway. “Whatever, I’m on my way,” I answered languidly before I cut the call. I looked at myself in the mirror… I’m good to go, I was wearing a plain white sleeveless turtle neck and paired it with black ripped jeans. “Hmm, I prefer flats,” I mumbled while putting it on. I didn’t bring a pouch or anything, just my phone, I won’t go shopping anyway and I don’t have the get-up-and-go for that. I was descending the stairs when I saw Melinda pass by, she was probably busy with other things. “Melinda” I called her. She immediately stooped and turned in my direction. She’s looking at me questioningly, it’s like she’s wondering where I am going. “Yes? Young lady?” She politely asked. I pursed my lips and slightly tilted my head as I step down the last staircase. “Make brownies later or better yet, tomorrow morning, okay?’’ I told her. She repeatedly nodded at me and show a thumbs up. I slightly arched my brows and nodded before I dismiss her. I strode toward my mom’s office, well, I thought not to ask permission from her because I swear I’ll be fed up with her whims again lecturing me endlessly, good thing that my dad not yet coming home. I opened the door of my mom’s office and I saw her wearing a reading glass while she’s focused on something. She’s reading. My mom frowned as she lift her head and her sharp intimidating gaze that completely reflects mine settled on me before she shook her head, it’s like her gesture was telling me that ‘what’s new’… “I don’t know what to do to you, Cassidy!... my goodness sweetheart,” She paused for a second and throw me a glare before she continued. “You love seeing me flinching every time you show up in front of my door without knocking huh?!” She sneered at me. “And I told you to always knock! It doesn’t mean that I am your mother so you have all the way you want! You should get used to that!... I don’t want to have white hair earlier just because of you Cassidy, what do you need? Why you’re here?!” She asked me after a long, long… never mind. “Ah, I’m going to visit Crisha, mom,” I answered casually. My mother raised her eyebrows at me as she took off her reading glance and gracefully rested her arms on her chest. “Visit? You’re saying that as if you haven’t seen each other for years…” She croaked. Yeah, I know I’ve been with her last time, but nothing’s really wrong if I would go there again and again anyway. bit my lower lip restraining myself to say anything, here we go again. “I’m going, mom,” I said languidly and she raised her left hand, telling me to not yet. I caught her checking me from head to toe. Her eye stopped where my wounds are, then she snorts. Well, I’m on my ripped jeans, particularly ripped on the knee part so basically, band-aids are just so visible. “See what you got this morning? That’s why you have to move softly so you wouldn’t get any of that next time Cassidy.” She preached. I simply nodded, well… “You should dress up nicely, take care of your skin, you’re such a beauty, sweetheart, your angelic looks are everyone could wish to possess---” I cut her off, I know, I heard lots of praises especially from boys, even at school where I’m studying, but it sucks to hear as if it’s the only thing that matters most! “What’s with the looks, mom, isn’t everyone just mere human and equal?” I asked impatiently. It’s so Ironic that this coming from me because I, myself like the guy I thought of as having the beyond gorgeous look. But it sometimes sucks thinking how terrible the standards of man are in this gracious world. “Oh, let’s not glaze it with hypocrisy sweetheart, we’re no saints and I know you know it too well that your looks can get you too far,” She stated with seriousness as she dropped that fact. It shouldn’t be like that but that’s really how the worlds run. “When you’re beautiful, life gets a bit easy, that’s I’m certain of.” She added. I was just staring back at her and sighed afterward, I couldn’t disagree, it was somehow true. “I’m going, mom,” “Okay, be right back on time, by the way, I like your necklace, your dad gave you that?” My mom suddenly asked as her eyes fixed on the necklace that I was wearing, Well, mom, Viel gave this to me… “No,” I said. “Oh? Okay, I thought that’s from your dad,” She said and shrugged. Maybe because of the pendant, it represents my dad’s business, our business. Same with Viel’s anyway. “Yeah, I’m going bye mom,” I said once last time. She nodded as she put her eyeglass on and get back to reading. I would come back home at 8 p.m. and my mom is a bit easy to convince than my dad, I’m with my driver since I’m not allowed to. I went out of the main door and made my way to the spacious garage. I saw Shawn topless again as he was busy… I can’t guess if he’s fixing something on the car or something, just like I saw him in the morning. Maybe he heard my footstep so he turned to look in my direction and when he saw me approaching, he immediately stood up straight and grabs his shirt and put it on. “Young lady,” He greeted while smiling at me but his eyes trailed down to my knees before he cleared his throat and looked at me once again. “How are you feeling, young lady?” He asked. ‘’Does it still hurt?’’ He followed up with another question and he looks like a worried poor kid while asking me that. I shook my head. This is just nothing anyway. “No, let’s go,” I said shortly. He attentively watched me walk as he opened the door for me. I get into the Bently Mulsanne quietly. “Where to, young lady?” “Jarera’s mansion--- I mean Crisha’s mansion,” I clearly said. “Yes, young lady,” Shawn answered. I rested my back on my seat as I checked my phone. “Hmm, why not text him? He probably busy---” I mumbled but I was interrupted by Shawn’s voice. “Are you saying something young lady?” He asked and looked at me through a rare view mirror. “Do you need anything, young---” I shook my head. He nodded and smiled at me just like he always does before he focuses on driving. I’m thinking of Viel. I end up sending him a message, I can’t help it. I know he’s busy so I doubt if would even check his phone if he’s at work. To: Conrad Viel… I stared at the screen and was about to construct another word to send to him but I almost fall in my seat when suddenly the car forcedly stop. “What the hell?! Shawn!” I yelled and looked at him in the driver’s seat. “s**t, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry young lady… It’s just that a street cat suddenly crossed---” I sighed and massage my temple and stopped him from talking so we can get there already. He keeps on saying sorry and his worried voice was so evident. I assure him that I’m okay so he would stop apologizing. I rested my back on my seat for a moment, but before Shawn started the car engine I him. “Shawn, let me drive, move on the side I’ll be on the driver seat,” I ordered. “W-what? No… young lady, you’re not allowe—” ‘’Oh, please! Don’t underestimate me Shawn! I know how to drive, now… move” I commanded. I feel like driving today! Know how to drive huh? That’s why you end up crashing Crisha’s Audi into Viel’s lambo? My inner voice likely to mocked at me. I was a bit drunk that time so… Shawn move on the side and let me behind the wheel… I smiled widely and winked at Shawn who looks very unconvinced at my sudden very brilliant I dea.
