Chelsea, Phoebe, Theo, and Diana could almost taste it already covered in a tomato basil sauce and sprinkled with parmesan. It was hard to believe that all it was was flour and eggs, kneaded and shaped.
Today it was green, so either spinach or more basil. Either way, they didn't care - fresh pasta rocked and they got to make it themselves.
Janet takes a sip of her wine while the rest of them ate in silence. Janet took the icebreaker and asked ''How was your guys' first day of school?''
''Fantastic, taking economics this year,'' Diana responds to Janet. She took another bite of her food then sips on her drink.
''Nice, how about you pumpkin? Any interesting classes?'' Janet asked Phoebe and Theo.
''I have chemistry, which is the only one that seems interesting,'' Phoebe said. ''But not as interesting as Theo, who's taking French,'' she adds.
''Ooo, oui oui, '' Janet raises her brows.
''Ew, mom do not that.''
''Don't do what?''
Theo copied Janet's eyebrow movement and everyone around fell out of laughter. ''Never again,'' he laughs and Chelsea smiles.
A person smiles with more than their mouth, and Theo heard it in Chelsea's voice, and he knew it was beautiful.
''Are you two dating?'' Janet bluntly asked which put a shock through Phoebe and Chelsea's face. Diana, though, was happy to hear what Theo was going to say but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
He denied it, quickly.
''No, we're just friends.''
''Oh, nice,'' Janet said.
Dinner ended within ten minutes with delicious fudge brownies. Theo was out with Diana as Chelsea spent more quality time with Phoebe. The two were on their phones scrolling through i********:, Snapchat, Twitter, and Tik Tok.
As time goes by, it was time for Chelsea to go home. She said her goodbyes to Phoebe and Janet and walked out the door. The distance from her home and to the Grande's was too far, approximately five minutes. By the time Chelsea begins to walk, she was halted by Theo and his motorcycle.
He came in just in time after being with Diana.
''Need a ride,'' He said, turning off the engine. His black hair was slicked from the back, messy but groomed. Two lines from his forehead formed together in a line to which he was hoping she would respond.
''Um I mean--''
''Hop in,'' He said, handing her over a helmet.
''Are you sure?"'
''Yes,'' he answered. ''Trust me.''
''Okay,'' Chelsea whispered to herself. She squints her eyes as she goes over to him and takes the helmet. Behind him, she connects the straps when Theo begins to restarts the engine.
And she looked up and saw the stars. They illuminated the darkness and her fears crumbled to dust beneath her feet.
The glitter in the sky looks as if she could scoop it all up in her hands and let the stars swirl and touch one another but they are so distant, so far apart that they cannot feel the warmth of each other even though they are made of burning.
The was short but sweet, and Chelsea knew it.
She hops off the motorcycle and unstraps the helmet giving it back to him. ''Thanks for the short ride,'' she said.
''No problem.''
''Good night.''
''Yeah, good night.''
Chelsea went inside her home and greeted her mother, Patricia as she lay on the couch after a long shift. She was covered with a dark-blue velvet blanket and had popcorn right in front of her.
''How was dinner sweetie?'' Patricia asked.
''Dinner was good, Janet said hello.''
Patricia let out a huge yawn. ''That's good love.''
''Tired?''
''Yeah, very, I'll rest now you can go.''
''Okay, mom. Sleep tight.'' She nods her head and rests her head on the pillow. Chelsea went up the stairs and put her belongings on her desk. Crawling to her bed, she opens her phone and saw a notification through her phone on i********:.
