Chapter 6: Upheaval at the restaurant I couldn't help the smile drew in my lips as I saw how my son, Oasis, is getting excited for the two of us going out to have fun. He wants to stroll around the mall. He wants us to do anything like we both didn't do when we were still in Brazil. I still remembered when we were in Brazil, I had no money to provide for my son. We couldn't go outside even if going to the amusement park. I was detained somewhere in Brazil. Oasis and I were at Brasília, Brazil. Brasília is the capital of Brazil. Pops brought me there. Pops wanted to help me before but he promised to my father that he shouldn't provide things in everything I need. I learned to live on my own since the day I was in Brazil. Before I left the Philippines, I bid goodbye at Allison. I told her that I'm going back here again once everything is okay. I finished my studies in Brazil. I finished college at the University of Brasília through a scholarship. I was then a working student. I tried my very best to provide Oasis for his needs. It was very hard to be a mom and at the same time a working student. But I managed to survive and be at where I am right now. I had many suitors way back in my college years. Some of them were celebrities and soccerball players. But I didn't give them any entertainment they want. I was very focused on my son and on my studies and at the same time, my part-time job. I couldn't provide what Oasis wants before but not after I graduated at the university and passed the board exam as civil engineering. When my father forgave me, he wanted to help me provide for our needs. I declined his offer. I lived being an independent mother and student. I want to be responsible. I insisted on it. So they granted my wish. Now, father agreed that I am welcome to come back home to the Philippines after six years. And I told my son that what he and I didn't do in Brazil, we will happen to the Philippines. I promised him that. That made him so happy and overwhelmed. As I promised him, well, we went to one of the tourist spots in my country. We went to Star City, Enchanted Kingdom, and even in Sky Ranch. Those were the only tourist spots we had gone through. I was too busy with my work that's why I am doing my best to makeup and time for my son. A promise is a promise and I shall not break it. And now, I have to spend time for my son, Oasis. He wants us to go to my favorite restaurant here in the Philippines. Italian cuisines are my favorite dishes. So, I will bring him to Piccolo Padre near Angeles City. "Mom, when will I study?" I gave him a glance then returned my attention back to driving. "Why? You want to go to school now, son?" "Yes, Mommy. I want to meet other people." On my peripheral vision, he clapped his hands happily. He was also giggling. I chuckled vigorously. Oasis likes to meet new people. He wants to talk with them. He's so friendly."I'll take care of that. But it's only summer vacation so we have to wait first until enrollment, okay?" I smiled widely when he jumped in joy. Ah, kiddos. I planned that Oasis and I will eat our supper in that restaurant. I couldn't bring Oasis this morning in my favorite restaurant because I became busy and went to the construction site to see what they were proceeding. I went home at almost 6 o'clock so that's why Oasis and I will go there and have our dinner I reserved a table for two and told the staff the food Oasis might like. I parked the car when we were in front of Piccolo Padre. The fine-dining restaurant was located at Queens Hotel Angeles City. I held Oasis's hand when we entered the restaurant. We were met by a receptionist. She smiled at us. "Do you have any reservation here, Ma'am?" the receptionist asked politely. I nodded at her and smiled back. "Yes, I have. The name's Sky Hitherway by the way." She immediately looked at the reservation book and I think she finally found my name because I saw her eyes sparkled. "This way, Ma'am. I'll show you your table." We followed her. I felt Oasis tugged my hand so I looked down to check on him. I couldn't help the smile drawing on my lips as I saw how awed and amazed Oasis was. "Mom...my... This place is... beautiful." Then he looked at me and smiled. I winced his hair. "I'm glad you like this, boss." I winked at him. He only giggled until we reached our table. "I will leave you two," the receptionist said and bowed. I was helping Oasis sit at the chair when he called the receptionist. "Miss..." I was confused as to why he is calling the receptionist and watched what he is doing. Oasis waved his hand to her. "Hi, I'm Oasis!" He smiled. I shook my head and chuckled then I glared to the receptionist who was also chuckling at Oasis. "I'm Martha." She smiled and bid goodbye at us. When I sat down, the waiter approached us with a smile. I said that we had a reservation and mentioned my name. Then I focused my attention on Oasis who was busy looking at the surrounding. I placed my elbow in the table and placed my chin in my palm. "Amazing, isn't it?" I asked, amused. He nodded his head and glanced at me. "This place is now my favorite, Mommy. Do you mind?" He gave me an innocent glare. I pinched his cheek gently. "I don't mind, honey." Then our orders came. Heck! I couldn't stop smiling seeing my son right now. His eyes were widening at so much excitement. He even clapped his hands. "Wow! Mommy..." He glanced at me asking permission if we could eat now. I nodded my head and gave him a reassuring smile. "Sure, boss. Go ahead." I watched him as he dug in. I chose the best Italian cuisines that would suit the taste of my baby. Caprese salad with pesto sauce, panzenella, bruschetta, pasta carbonara, margherita pizza, pasta con pomodoro E basilico, and last, the dessert, panna cotta with raspberry coulis.  Those are the cuisines I chose to be eaten by the two of us. We both started eating and devoured it with so much delight. And we really finished all the food we ordered. I missed my favorites that's why. Oasis and I laughed when we both noticed that we exhausted all the foods that were prepared earlier. "So, how's the food, honey? As I can see, looks like you have gotten to like them as you finished all the foods in our table." Oasis caressed his small tummy and nodded his head. "I am, Mommy. Those foods are so delicious and yummy. I hope grandma can make one of this yummy-yum." He showed the cute, perfect set of his white teeth. "Vou tentar isso uma vez," I said in Portuguese language and smiled at him. He clapped his hands happily. "Em breve, certo, mamãe?" I nodded. Of course, it will be soon. I hope so. Haha. I stood up when I felt that I was calling nature. "I'll just go to the comfort room, Oasis. Wait for me here, okay? Don't go anywhere. Understand?" When he nodded, I left him for a moment and went to the comfort room. After I peed, I washed my face and wiped it by using tissue paper. Then I retouched my make-up. After I am done with my makeup, I viewed myself in the mirror. Lots of things changed after I gave birth to Oasis. I had faced so many challenges in the past. They were very challenging and satisfying because I managed to survive and didn't give up. And now that I could provide what he wants, I won't repeat the same mistake I had done. I am not gonna let it happen to what happened in Brazil. Those happenings were in the past now. I am not gonna let it happen again. Not again. That's a promise. I tapped my cheeks as if waking up from reality. Then I fixed my dress I am wearing then I exited the comfort room. As I made my way to my seat, I found the table and Oasis wasn't there. My eyes broadened and panicked ran through me. I looked for him in my surroundings. Where is Oasis? Where the heck is my son? Where? Oh my God! I shouldn't have left him. Oh my! I looked everywhere in the restaurant and even in the guys' comfort room just in case if Oasis was there. But I waited and waited and no Oasis exited. Where is my baby Oasis? I was about to ask the receptionist when in my peripheral vision, I saw Oasis at the corner. When I turned my head, I was surprised to see Oasis. He was with a tall guy with a well-built body and was wearing in a corporal suit. "Oasis..." What is he doing? Oasis was crossing his arms and his forehead was creasing tightly. I know the behavior of my son. He was mad at the guy he was facing. Oasis was looking up at the guy while the guy was looking down at him. I looked somewhere but them when I noticed that guy was familiar to me. I could only see his side view that's why I couldn't see clearly his face. But he was so familiar. It's as if I saw him before. But the question is, where? Why am I still remembering that? My son was there. I kept on looking for him! I was about to come near him when Oasis spoke. "You, mister, are a bad guy. Shouting and saying bad words to your employees is very bad to do. You must speak with them with a calm and mild voice." I watched them. But I found it so funny. My son was teaching the guy a lesson. But.. what the hell! I watched the guy knelt so that their faces are even. "They did some things that make me mad so that's why I shouted and cussed at them," the guy said seriously but with a hint of amusement in his voice. And his voice was familiar too. I think I might hear it somewhere. Just where is it? Dark, manly, soothing voice. Wait! That voice... That voice was coming from the man I just met a couple of days ago. That was... "Mr. Stefopolous." My heart pounded when I pronounced it and looked at him and my son. Oh. My. God. His face. It was him. It was really him! "No! That is a bad thing to do! My Mommy told me that you shouldn't shout nor say bad words. She says it's so bad to say something like that." He pouted his lips. I did a facepalm upon hearing them coming from my son but I am so proud that he learned it from me. I think I have to butt in before things get worst than what I've been expecting. I slowly walked towards them and was about to approach when Mr. Stefopolous laughed heartily. Goosebumps crawled all over my body as I heard it. Then I felt my body heated. Why did I feel that? "Where is your mommy, kid? Did she tell you that you shouldn't butt in when elders are busy talking?" he asked in his amusement voice. I'm so dead. That's the only thing I could say. "Oasis," I called my son's name and the two of them looked at me. "Mommy!" Oasis ran towards me and hugged my thigh then he hid in my back. I caressed his hair and knelt. I kissed his forehead. "I think we should go home, honey, okay? I think you had enough." He nodded but he hid his face to the crook of my neck. I lifted Oasis and stood up. As I stood up, I met Mr. Stefopolous's eyes. His intense gaze that I think I'm going to melt. I didn't see a surprise expression in his eyes. Instead, he was smiling. I was thinking to be mesmerized for a moment but no. I'm not gonna do that. My son is now feeling humiliated. I slowly paced a walk towards him and awkwardly flashed a smile. "Forgive me for my son's preachment, Mr. Stefopolous. That's unintentional. Pardon me." He nodded and walked closer to me. My breath hitched realizing just as how he was so close to me. I couldn't help but gulp when I stared at his blue eyes. "It's fine, Ms. Hitherway. I learned a lesson from him. Maybe I should thank you because you taught him the right way." I felt myself blushing from his compliment. I answered him with a smile. I couldn't speak because I felt my knees weakened "We're going ahead. Sorry for the inconvenience, Mr. Stefopolous. I'm really sorry." I bowed my head. "It's goodbye, for now, Ms. Hitherway but we will see each other again." But before I walked away from him, I heard him muttered something that made my goosebumps prickled down to my spine. I didn't turn my head to look at him again
