The ring

Maxine opened the door to Father Maxwell's office,"good evening father?"She said.

"Get in?"He stood up and pulled out a chair for Maxine.

The action caused Maxine to feel awkward,in her previous life when Father Maxwell called her and asked her what she wanted,she had said straight forwardly,"Father,I want to go with Mary wherever she goes,"and then she remembered father Maxwell asking her if she knows where Mary is going but she said she didn't know but she was willing to follow her.Now when she thinks of it,there was a slight disappointment on his face though he didn't show it,and because she was too dumb to care she did not take notice at the time.

"Maxine,"Father Maxwell called her name bringing her back to the present,after he confirmed that she was now listening to him, he said,"what are your plans now that you have completed your high school exams?"

Maxine looked at him for while,trying to consider what to say,she couldn't bring up the story of serving the church because father Maxwell had already denied that part,so,she said,"Father,for now I have no plans,I am just waiting for my results to come out so that I can know what to do.But even if my results came out,I know I will have to wait for eight months before joining the university of my choice,"as she said this,she was closely observing his reaction,and when she saw him sighing she quickly said,"Father Maxwell,if you have any suggestions for me,I can take them into consideration."

"Maxine,when you joined high school,I told you to learn some defense skills for a starter right?"He asked and Maxine nodded,"did you learn it?"

Maxine nodded, although she learned it,she had not taken it seriously but now after experiencing her past life she regretted not taking it seriously.

As if reading her thoughts,Father Maxwell said,"don't worry,I know you had not taken it into consideration but if you are willing to take on your responsibilities, then that can be solved."

Maxine just nodded,"Maxine,if you choose this path,it will not be an easy path for you,this path is the roughest and the hardest and you have to train well."Father Maxwell said and Maxine continued to nod,she remembered that when she was in the void,the woman said there was a lot of things about her life that she did know,and now listening to Father Maxwell speak about the that path,she figured Father Maxwell also knows something.

"Father,by any chance,do you know about my past?"Maxine asked.

Father Maxwell sighed heavily,"child your past is very complicated ,even I can't tell,that is something you have to do by yourself, because even if I tell you what I know, you will still not understand."

Maxine did not press further for information,she knew if Father Maxwell didn't want to say it, he won't say it,which makes her wonder,"Father Maxwell,are you really a father."

Father Maxwell smiled and said,"no,I am not.Me and Mother superior are your protectors.We were supposed to protect until you grow up.The only thing I can tell you is that,the day this Church was completed, was the day we joined this place,we had planned to hide you here when you were at the age of four,that was the only way we could hide you."

"Hide me from what?"Maxine asked.

"From the enemies.There are a lot of people waiting to kill you,which is why you should be careful now that you will be exposed in the real world."

"Father Maxwell,what is their purpose?"Maxine asked,sounding confused.

She watched as Father Maxwell opened a safe and took out a small box,he opened the box but did not take out whatever was inside he just pointed at it,"because of this,"he gave the box to Maxine but she did not take at first,instead,she asked,"why are you giving it to me?"

"Because it belongs to you."Father Maxwell said.

"How do you know?"

"The day you were born,the ring lit up into a bright and blinding white.The only other person who made it light up,was your grandmother,but for her it was bright yellow,I don't know what is the difference between the colours,but it is said the white colour is very important,it can control the universe ."Father explained.

Listening to Father's explanation ,Maxine involuntarily shivered, she had no idea that by being reborn,she had a heavy burden on her shoulders .Noticing her silence, Father Maxwell continued,"this ring cannot be touched by just anyone unless it chooses you,but now people are looking for the method to control it,I don't know if they will find one."

"So the other reason why you came to the church was because you were hiding it,and that no one can suspect the church?"

"Though we gambled but it was the only choice we had."Father Maxwell took Maxine's hand closed the box and kept it on her palms,"the choice is yours,you can either make good use of it or leave it to the wrong hands,as for me, I have done my part."Father Maxwell opened the safe again and this time took out three envelopes," this,are your family's property and house keys."

Maxine opened the envelope and took out five keys,"what are this for?"She asked.

"This,are your mother's private properties,three villas,one bungalow and one apartment.So far,I have been taking care of them,so they are well maintained,he pointed to the other envelope,"this contains your mother's businesses which she signed under you,the laboratory is under your name,but now, professor Martin has taken control over it."

At the mention of Professor Martin,Maxine stiffened and her face grew pale,but she still wondered,'if the laboratory belonged to her from the start,then why did he take her as her student and offered to leave the laboratory to her as his successor only to kill her later?'Maxine looked at Father Maxwell,"Father,if the laboratory is under my name,then how does it end up with him?"

"Pro.Martin was your mother's acquaintance,they were classmates in the university and because your mother inherited her family's laboratory they started doing samples there and slowly the laboratory started having problems,at that time I was young so I didn't bother.After one month there was news of joint cooperation between your mother and him."

Maxine nodded,'it seems there are a lot of things I have to take care of.'Having a second chance in life,she decided to take the risk,if she has to kill in order to learn the truth, then she will.

"Your mother was the heiress in her family,so she took over the laboratory and perfume industry,and her younger sister was given the art and entertainment industry but they all declined and so she started targeting the perfume industry,so it has been declining for years now,"Father Maxwell paused and then continued,"the last envelope contains all the bank accounts under your name,before your mother died,she changed everything to your name and now all this years,your account has been receiving money monthly,by the time you are enrolled to the university,you will be eighteen and you can access everything."Father Maxwell took one more envelope from the safe,"this one is your mother's private business,"the company deals with jewels,your mother owns a diamond mine in Africa and Russia ,there are separate two bank cards there,all under your name,but the business hasn't expanded yet, before it became known, your mother died,so Mother Superior took over the control until now."

After they were done speaking,Maxine left the office and asked to be given some time to think.All this business,some had declined over the years,while the other hasn't been well know for years,which means,there is something going on, especially in the jewel industry.
