Maxine's Choice

That night,Maxine did not have enough sleep,she had turned all through the night until dawn,only then did she get sleep but because of the orphanage rules she had to wake up and go for morning devotion.Father Maxwell and Mother Superior didn't participate much in this,before Maxine used to wonder whether they were forced to join the church,but after yesterday,though she had only learn half of a quarter part of the story,she understood some part of it.Even she herself had started becoming uninterested with all this parts.After experiencing life for the second time,now she knew how evil and sinister their hearts were.

They all pretended to love one another on the outside while on the inside they were all planning on how to attack one another.Maxine could count how many people around the church were genuinely happy and loving and how many of them were sinister.

She observed everyone around,swearing that all those people who caused her past life to be miserable will get it ten times,she had no plans of forgiving,she will leave the forgiving part to the one they claim to serve.She did not care to listen to the preachings..,no teachings they were just repeating what they taught everyday.She waited until the morning devotion was done,did her daily chores and after she was done,she went to Father Maxwell's office,she knew by this time he was awake,but before she left she didn't forget to take the ring with her.

She knocks the office door and only enters after being allowed to by Father Maxwell.This time,he was not alone in the office,Mother Superior was also there.She noticed Mother Superior glancing at Father Maxwell as if silently communicating and after a while,Mother Superior smiled widely and patted the couch next to her,"come and sit my dear,"she said.

Maxine walked over bowed respectfully as she greeted them and then sat down."Did you have your breakfast?"Mother Superior asked.

Maxine nodded in agreement and she smiled in acknowledgement ,"that's great."

"So Maxine,did make a decision?"Father Maxwell asked then watched as Maxine nodded,he smiled,"I didn't think you make a decision this quick but I guess it's good that you did it."

"Father Maxwell,why do you speak as if you already knew what my answer will be."Maxine asked.

Father Maxwell laughed,"if there is one thing I do best,is trusting my instincts."

"I will accept, but after I go to college what will you be doing?"Maxine felt like asking the question.

"We are going to quit working in the church and go back to our home,our family owed this favor to your mother,that is why we did it wholeheartedly,"Mother Superior replied.

"Father Maxwell,Mother Superior,"she called as she looked at each of them,"I want to leave the perfume industry to you,"she watched them closely as they both stiffened.

"Why would you want that?It is basically what your left to your mother."Mother Superior said.

"If you don't want it,I will just live it to decline forever."Maxine said.

"Even if you leave it to us,it might cause problems.Instead of dealing with the industry,we will be busy going in and out of the court with your sister just fighting for ownership.She knows that you are the owner of the company,but she does not know where you are,if we expose you,she will kill you and take the company."Father Maxwell denied.

"But if you go with the legal signed documents she won't cause trouble for you,right?"Maxine insisted.

"First,you can't use your real name and you can't use your fake name,if you use the real name, you will have to appear at the court and from then onwards,you won't be having enough time to rest, and if you use your other name they will say the documents are fake."Mother Superior continued.

Maxine gave up the idea of leaving the company to them and thought of another idea,"how about I assign you Father Maxwell as the CEO and Mother Superior can choose whatever position she wants from the companies?"She said excitedly and watched as the hesitated."I can only take my identification card after four months and I only have eight months before I join the university enrollment so what do I do."

Father Maxwell signalled her to go over and then told her to give him his hands,after Maxine did so,he held her index finger, pricked it with a needle before Maxine could even protest,he took a little amount of blood and dropped it on the ring that was on Maxine's finger.Maxine did not have time to register what was going on,she only came back to her senses after the ring started lighting,Mother Superior ran quickly and closed the windows and stayed there waiting for the reaction to complete.

Maxine felt like she was going crazy as images started coming and going,some were familiar and others were unfamiliar,she clutched her head tightly and started sweating profusely and the next minute,she started shivering in cold as the veins were bulging out of her skin.She only heard faint voices of the people around her but she couldn't tell what they were saying.The voices and the images in her head kept hindering her for concentrating on what was going on around her, especially the last image before she died in her previous life.

Mother Superior was starting to get worried,"are you sure she will be fine?Is this how the process takes place?"After asking the question she saw Maxine wincing in pain,she could not bare it any longer,so she decided to interfere,but the moment she made a move,Maxine had calmed down.

Maxine stood up,her eyes were closed, then,she sat down in a meditating posture.Mother Superior who was about to make a move,suddenly paused,she looked at Father Maxwell who nodded back at her and gestured to the door.

"We have to give her space,I heard from her mother that this might take a while."He said as they walked out and he closed the door.He made two steps forward then stopped,he turned around,opened the office door he stayed there for three minutes then came out of the office with a sign saying,'gone for a while.'He stuck it to the door and left with Mother Superior,"we will be back after two days."

"Does it take that long?"Mother Superior asked.

"I don't really know how long it takes,I am just following her mother's instructions.

On Maxine's side,she had no idea what was going on,this time she did not find herself in the void as before,but a land,full of plants and trees with a beautiful villa behind her and surrounded by a huge garden, full of trees with unfamiliar fruits.

"I was wondering how long it will take before the ring accepts you,but for you it has been faster than any other person,"she heard a voice coming from behind.
