Maya POV.........
Thomas and I grabbed our things and left our second class, english, after leaving our essays on the desk. Lenny was walking on my left side while Thomas was on my right holding my hand. I interlaced our fingers and he looked down at me.
"Do you think this is about the cafeteria incident earlier?" He asked me with a shameful look on his face.
"I don't know Tommy, my parents are here, it could have to do with them." I said with a sigh.
"Maya, why do you look so upset?" Lenny asked.
"Lenny, do you remember dad telling you that an Alpha always protects.."
"His pack. Yeah he tells me that all the time." Lenny said rolling his eyes.
"Well he hasn't been protecting everyone in the pack. He let other wolves hit Tommy and probably Carmen's mom too." I said to him, he looked mad and sad at the same time.
"Is that why you ignored him earlier?" He asked softly.
"Yeah it is Lenny. Dad has done really bad things and he has done them all while he has been Alpha. Some of those things might get brought up in here so I need you to promise me something."
"Okay." He said lightly.
"Promise me that you never forget that both mom and dad love you." He nodded as we got to the council building. We walked in and went to the meeting room on the second floor, when we got to the door I steeled my nerves and knocked on the door.
Zenon opened the door a moment later and ushered us inside, as I suspected my parents were seated at the table. I ignored them and pulled Thomas to a seat away from them, putting myself between Thomas and my parents. Lenny sat on my other side, next to my mom.
"Thank you for coming." Samuel said looking at Thomas and I kindly. I smiled tightly while Thomas squeezed my hand. "Maya congratulations on your first shift, I heard your wolf is quite jaw dropping." I relaxed a bit and giggled.
"Thank you councilman Samuel." I said.
"You heard right Nyx is entrancing." Thomas said rubbing his thumb on mine.
(Mmmm....and he is scrumptious.) Nyx purred.
"You've seen my daughter's wolf?" My dad asked coldly. I turned to him and glared, he looked taken aback.
"I have." Thomas said just as coldly. "In fact our wolves get along quite well. Don't they?" I could tell Thomas was trying to get a rise out of my dad, so being myself of course I helped him.
"Almost as well as you and I." I said smiling up at him. I heard a snarl and turned to my mother switching from a warm smile to a cold stare.
"It must have been nice to have someone from your own pack to bond with here." My mother said through clenched teeth. She was digging.
"Actually Thomas and I have been friends for about 10 years now." I said, both of my parents looked taken aback but replaced the shock with neutral expressions.
"Are you not upset about the fact he hid the fact he shifted early?" My father asked trying to drive a wedge between us.
"Did you really?" I asked Thomas in fake hurt.
"How could I, you were there the first time I shifted." He said mockingly.
"You knew?" My mother seethed.
"Yep." I said popping the 'p'. "He kept Deimos a secret on my request, you see even at 8, I knew something was terribly wrong with the way you interacted with Tommy."
"I believe your words were "my daddy will be mad if he finds out, and I don't want you hurt anymore."" Thomas said leaning back in his chair.
"I can't believe you remembered my exact words." I said.
"I remember everything from that day. Belle." He said with a wink, I could feel my cheeks heat up so I wrinkled my nose at him, his response was to chuckle. I turned back to my parents who were seething, their anger was palpable. "You see omegas as less than blood rouges, I see people who are capable of feeling pain. You treat them as you would a prisoner, I treat them like the people they are. You're both hypocrites, you raised me saying an Alpha takes care of their pack, hell you tell Lenny the same damn thing. And yet you hurt your pack members, I've had to pull you away from Tommy before pretending to be afraid of what mom would say if I showed up to breakfast alone, even then you had to punch him in the gut as we left the kitchen." I said wiping away a tear of rage that slid from my eye.
"May.." My dad began.
"I'm not done." I growled. "I was 6 and I had to drag his broken body to the hospital while bawling my eyes out. Had I not helped him, Thomas would have died and it would have been your fault." I could feel Nyx stirring as all my anger and hatred rose to the surface. "You were the one who nearly killed and innocent 8 year old child. How could you even look at me and pretend like you care while we were still in the waiting room?" I turned away from him as more tears of fury. Thomas spun my chair to face him before pulling me into his embrace, I used him to try and calm down but I only ended up crying harder.
"Let it out sweet pea, it's not good to keep it all bottled up." Thomas whispered into my ear.
"How could do you do that to Tom dad?" Lenny asked. "Mom how could you let him do that?"
"Lenny calm down." I heard my dad say.
"Alpha Penn, is all of this true?" Samuel said trying to mask his anger. I stopped crying but kept head on Thomas's shoulder trying to keep myself calm.
"Yes it is." My father said in a defeated tone. The room was silent for a long time, eventually I looked up sighed and sat up straight. Thomas took my head in his hands and asked if I was alright without speaking. I nodded kissed his nose before leaning back in my chair and retaking his hand in mine. I looked up at the council members and saw their eyes clouded over.
"Alpha Penn we have come to a decision." Zenon said once their eyes cleared up. "But first, Thomas would you like to shadow a real alpha for two years after graduation?"
"It would be an honor, but what of Maya, isn't she graduating with me?" Thomas asked.
"Maya is two years younger than you Thomas, she will take a few college courses and continue combat training. When she graduates, you will both be sent to Wandering Moon as the Alpha pair." Alfin said.
"How often will we see one another?" I asked. I wasn't liking this, I didn't want to be without Thomas.
"Probably once every few months." My heart sank and I felt like I was going to faint.
"Why so minimal? What Alpha do you want me to shadow?" Thomas said sadly.
"Flint." Samuel said. "As you know he lives in Scotland, so it would be quite taxing to travel all the time." Samuel said.
"I....I'm conflicted." Thomas confessed.
"Go to Scotland Tommy, this is something that will only make us stronger." I said burying my heartbreak for him. "But if any she-wolf lays a hand on you in either wrong way, I'll fly over and make them regret being born." He gripped my hand tighter and nodded at Samuel.
"It's settled then, now Alpha Penn and Luna Java, we are revoking your titles. Councilman Mason will go to your pack as the interim Alpha until Thomas and Maya are ready to lead Wandering Moon." Zenon said.
"What of our son?" My mom said her face pale.
"Everyone save for Maya, Thomas and councilman Samuel, will go to your pack and announce the change of power, in two years at the age of 13 Leonard will return here for training. Despite your raising both of your children will make incredible leaders." Zenon said.
"This meeting is adjourned." Samuel said. I stood and bowed at the council members before leaving the room holding in my tears until I left the council building. I walked quickly to Thomas's room alone, not bothering to wait for anyone.
..........Thomas POV.............
"This meeting is adjourned." Pop said. Maya pulled her hand from mine before standing up and bowing before practically running from the room. I sighed and grabbed our bags and left the meeting room following my very upset mate. "Thomas." Pop said from behind me.
"Yeah?" I asked turning to him, he was a hair shorter than me and had similar brown eyes. His hair was cut close to his head and a dark grey color, his pale skin was covered in wrinkles and freckles.
"Maya?" He asked looking around.
"She's downhearted and frightened. We've never been apart longer than a few days, this is going to be absolute hell for the both of us." I said. "I've got to go see Maya, Pop." I turned away and walked to my room, knowing Maya she was curling up with Suri in my pajama pants and one of my sweaters.
I walked into my room and closed the door behind me ignoring the rules for once, just as I suspected a red eyed Maya was curled up on my bed in my clothes with the stuffed Lemur. I sighed and set our bags on the floor before taking off my shoes and crawling onto the bed, wrapping her soft body up in my arms. She turned around and put her face in the crook of my neck while she sobbed a bit more.
"I know Sweet pea." I said as a few tears left my eyes too.
(I don't want to leave her.) Deimos growled.
'I don't either.' I responded. 'Just the thought of it has made her so sad. I can't leave her, she's too damn precious.'
Deimos didn't respond he just curled up in a ball and whimpered.
"We'll have to set up a facetime schedule." She said keeping her face buried in my neck.
"How about we worry about that when the time comes, for now lets enjoy the time we have." I said rubbing her back.
"I can do that, just so you know I blame my period for all the crying I've done today." She said kissing my neck softly.
"How about we put on The Waterboy and enjoy some chocolate and popcorn." I said placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
"That sounds good." She said getting up and going to my bathroom. I kept pads and tampons for her, seeing as she was always in my room. I popped a bag of popcorn while putting the Dvd in the player and getting the TV set up. She came out and curled up with Suri, I pushed her forward then put my legs around her, she leaned back, her head against my chest, I grabbed my unused pillow and put it behind my neck and put my hands on hers interlacing our fingers.
...........Samuel POV................
I watched as my grandson went after his mate, his brown eyes conveyed the depth of his despair. I had watched her leave the chamber, her jade green eyes were full of unshed tears. I sighed and went to my office and called my son through the computer as he showed me to do the last time he was here.
His face appeared on my screen and he smiled, Thomas had his smile.
"Hey dad, how've you been?" He asked, his voice had a bit of a scottish accent after living there for nearly 15 years. "How's my son?" Since I had told Flint about Thomas he has been itching to take a trip here.
"That's why I'm calling you Flint. Thomas graduates next year, and we've discussed it, we think he should shadow a proper Alpha for 2 years before he goes back to Wandering Moon." I said.
"You want him to shadow me?" Flint asked hopefully.
"I do, but we have hit a snag." I added.
"What is the snag?" He growled.
"Thomas has found his mate early, and they have been inseparable for nigh on 9 years."
"I don't see a problem, she can come with him." He interrupted.
"The problem is that she is two years younger than he is. Once he turns 18 it'll be harder for him to be around her without mating and marking her, if they aren't really mates and we're all just thinking wishfully there could be issues."
"Every single council member along with both wolves believe they're mates, then I think it's more than wishful thinking. Plus it'll be worse if she's away, his s****l appetite is going to be even larger than mine, I think his mate being here will make it better to control himself. If she's not here it'll be nearly impossible for him not to find a substitute." My son said crudely.
"So you think both Maya and Thomas should spend two years in Scotland?" I asked.
"Exactly, from what you've told me Maya seems like a smart kid, she can finish her courses here and both of them can train with my head warrior Haemish."
"Well, they'll both be giddy about that." I said. "Now were is Meredith and my little Skyla?"
