Josh's Christmas Wish

Josh was so in a hurry that he did not bother knocking, his grandfather will understand.
Senior Bleak, who had been up since 5 am staring at nothing, looked towards his door and wondered what would make Josh come into his room like that.
"Josh, what happened and why are you sweating on a winter morning?"
Josh was tongue-tied. First time in his life he is helpless and does not have a clue about what to do.
"Grandfather, there is a problem."
"What type of problem?"
Senior Bleak said and sat up.
"Alex has suddenly stopped breathing."
The words left Josh's mouth so fast that he could not stop them. Senior Bleak stared at him and sighed.
"Get the girl, we are going to the hospital immediately"
Senior Bleak said coolly. Josh was speechless, is that all his grandfather is going to say? What happened to his grandfather that he has stopped asking questions?
"Right away, grandfather."
Josh turned on his heels and left.
Senior Bleak placed a call and a voice came immediately.
"Silas, get the car ready, we are leaving."
He hung the call and called another.
"Emergency, let your staff be up and doing"
The call went dead again and he stood up. Another death for him again on Christmas, no way. His granddaughter-in-law can't suddenly stop breathing, Josh has some explanations to do but that will be later.
Senior Bleak is old but his bones are still strong. He could almost do everything by himself.
He quickly had a change of clothes and stepped out of his room.
Josh got to his room and scooped up Alex immediately. Her body temperature was worse than it was a few minutes ago. She was really drifting further. Her pulse was fainter.
Josh prays that she survives, looking at how lifeless she is, he makes a promise that if she lives, his attitude towards her will change.
He barely knew this girl so all he should have done was to give her the benefit of doubt, if she proved him wrong then he would have a reason to treat her fvck up.
She might be different after all and the thought pricked his heart.
He stared at her once cheerful face that would do anything to irritate him, she now looking lump in his arms with no hope of living. If only he can make a request.
A thought came to him,
"Did you forget your little Christmas tale by grandfather, it's Christmas and Santa grants wishes so make one"
Josh smiled sadly, he was once a little boy who believed so much in fairy tales but now that he is old, does he still believe? He has got to try once again.
"Okay, my Christmas wish. I want her to live and I will not be mean to her again"
If only it will be granted. A tear dropped from his eye and landed on Alex's cheeks and disappeared almost immediately.
Josh crying is rare and this is so new to him.
He met his grandfather at the mansion's main entrance and the old man stared at the girl in Josh's arms. All colors have drained from her and he fears for her life.
He sighed and stepped out followed by Josh.
The car was made ready and immediately they both settled down with Alex still in Josh's arms. The car zoomed off.
What a way to start a beautiful Christmas Morning!

Alex felt a drop of tears on her cheek and wondered where it was coming from. She wiped it and looked at the door of her apartment again. She has been here for so long not knowing how long. What the lady said to her had not clicked since then. She believes the lady is playing pranks on her.
The issue is not the lady but her brother, he was supposed to be back by now. This is 6 in the morning yet he is not back from where he went.
She hit her palm on her head and hissed.
"What am I even thinking, it's too early for him to be back. I just hope he is safe and makes it home on time."
She really can't wait to show him the surprises she has for him.
Alex made up her mind that once it was seven, she will go and check him up at his friend's place to see if he is there and she prays he is there.

Ander could not wait for the day to break. He was restless all through the night. He has this feeling that all might not be okay with his big sis.
He tried her line again and it went through. He smiled joyfully, he was actually going to hear her voice but his excitement did not last when a male voice came through. He examined the voice and figured out that it was not Luke's then who is he and why he is with his sis's phone?
Josh had grabbed Alex's phone on his way thinking that it was his own. When he saw that it was not his, he switched it on because he thought maybe a family member might be trying to reach her, he remembered she mentioned calling her brother yesterday and when he saw the name displayed on the screen he knew at once that it is her brother.
" Hello, who are you, and why are you with my sis's phone?"
"Calm down, big guy, your sis is in the bathroom right now and the reason you might not have gotten to her is that her phone was faulty. Tell me where you are and someone will come to pick you up."
Ander was silent for some time, who is this, and what does he mean Alex is in the bathroom?
"Can I talk to her at least?"
He asked.
"For your sister to leave her phone with me, don't you think she trust me enough so you should trust me"
Hearing that from him, Ander sighed. The man on the other side is right after all. He quickly gave him his address and the call went off.
"Who is that?"
Senior Bleak asked without looking at Josh.
"That's Alex's younger brother."
"That's great, someone will get to him at once."
Senior Bleak said and looked at Silas who was driving the life out of the car. Senior Bleak has instructed that he set the acceleration on high and he has been doing that even though reckless driving kills but that does not matter now because as it is, Alex is losing life every second.
"When we get to the hospital, I want you to personally go pick up the young man and take him to the mansion and also make out his space because he might be staying for a long time. His sister is about to become family and so is he."
Senior Bleak said and Silas nodded in response.
Josh was speechless. He thought he would handle that but his grandfather seems to want to take charge when it comes to Alex. He seems to like Alex a lot and Josh understands. He handed Alex's phone to Silas because the brother's address had been sent to the phone a second ago.
Josh looked at Alex as she lay still in his arms, there has not been a movement from Alex since and it makes him nervous. If he has superpowers, they might have been in the hospital by now.
