Two Can Play

Alex was not after all he said, her concern was the fact that he drew her back. She never knew Luke is a narcissist. So he now thinks better of himself, she is actually thankful that she had to break every connection she had with him. What would have been the remainder of her, if, at the end of their relationship, they had married each other?

She thinks it's better to suffer heartbreak with someone you know you don't love than to suffer it with someone you love with your life. She examined herself and saw that there is no more place for Luke in her life again, she has actually moved on and it was still a surprise how she did that so quickly.

"Luke, don't try this again with me. I am being so kind but don't take it for granted, don't push me"

She said and glared at him, Luke fumed and raised his hands to slap her.

"Don't you dare in your life touch my wife or you will have me to contend with"

Josh warned Luke sternly as he makes his way forward to them. He got to them and circled his hands around Alex's waist and kissed her hair.

Alex stiffened but relaxed later, she can't explain what was going on and she is trying to understand it.

"Did he hurt you before now, darling?"

Josh asked her while still having his stares lingering on Luke. Luke could not believe his eyes, is he actually seeing double, or is this for real?

"No, he did not"

Alex said, keeping her voice out of emotions. Why would he protect her? This is out of the way, is he trying to play a good lover in the presence of his brother, if that is the case, she would have to pretend too, like she said before, two can always play.

Josh has watched them for a while now and could not help but smirk. The lady had got a lot of nervous. If in normal circumstances, he had met her, he would have happily struck up a relationship with her. She is just his spec, but with how things ended up, he felt she is a gold digger and should not be associated with him. He knew that if Luke had struck her, she would have given him double of that, so he did the necessary to save Luke's sorry a*s by intervening

Luke brought down his hand that had been hanging in the air for a while now, glared at both of them, and stormed out on them.

The moment Luke left, Alex pulled away from Josh's embrace and glared at him.

"What was that for, huh?"

She questioned him viciously.

Josh shook his head and walked past her.

"I just saved your sorry a*s, I don't want you to have a red face because of tomorrow, and again, your grandfather would not take it easy with Luke either. So let's say, I saved you both. So girlie be grateful and behave."

To Alex, she has seen what Josh can do, so he can't do more than he has done already and besides, she should use her strength for something else, not Josh. He is not worth it.

Alex walked past him and headed to the dining room.

Josh was not expecting her to walk past him without a word. He was expecting her usual comeback but what did she do, she gave him the silent treatment. This is the first but no he can't allow her to walk away without saying anything.

He quickly took his steps and met her before she could take a step into the dining room.

Josh sneaked his hands around her waist, Alex wanted to curse aloud but when she saw that Senior Bleak sat opposite the entrance and could see her if she make a move. The old man believes that she and Josh are in love and she does not want to do otherwise so she swallowed her words and said nothing. Josh, who was expecting her to maybe push him or curse like always did not hear a word from her and when he looked up, he realized why she could not, his grandfather was sitting opposite the entrance and any noise from them both would draw his attention.

Senior Bleak looked up to see Alex standing at the entrance looking flushed with Josh behind her who in return wrapped his hands around her waist. He smiled to himself, it looks like these two will make a great couple.

" Alex darling, come in, I hope Josh is not holding you from coming to sit down. You know he is all yours, you can always have that moment, so come have dinner, tomorrow is the big day for you both"

Josh cursed in his mind, this is not what he was expecting when he took that step, he just wanted to irritate her but Grandfather had to catch them and now he had read meaning into it.

He realized that his actions so far had continued to give his grandfather the impression that he is so much in love with Alex.

Luke looked up from his seat and the sight he saw irritated him the most. He can't believe that Alex can find love so quickly, not only did she find love, she found love in the arms of his brother. This is too much for him and because of this, he will make sure that the wedding would not hold, it's his promise to them both.

They should watch their backs because he can't be betrayed like this by two people he has learned to love. He knew he made a mistake but that does not give Alex the right to move on so quickly. She should have at least waited maybe a month, two, or even a year and if he didn't come back to her, she can then move on.

Alex cleared her throat and Josh released her and took her by her left hand and headed to take a seat. They got to the huge dining table and he pulled a chair for her to sit and she did, she mouthed her thanks to him and smiled at Senior Bleak.

"Alex, I hope you are comfortable, do you need something? Feel free to tell me anything and report Josh to me if he misbehaves"

The old man said lovely and Alex had to smile.

Josh pulled a chair and sat beside Alex while he faced Luke who kept his eyes glued on Alex. He can't tell but he feels irritated when he sees the way Luke looks at Alex, it itches him a lot and makes him want to punch Luke in his face

"You're so kind, Mr. Bleak"

Alex said and Senior Bleak frowned at what she said.

"You are about to be family so it's wise if you refer to me as grandfather, do you understand?"

"Yes grandfather"

Alex muttered and managed a smile, how is she going to tell the old man that she doesn't want any of this?

Josh who kept looking at his grandfather conversed with Alex huffed in his mind. Only if his grandfather knows that she is not who she thinks she is.

Alex on the other hand was wowed at the number of dishes displayed on the dining table. She wondered if more people would be invited for dinner. There were so many dishes, she had not seen so many dishes in her life.

The ones she knows the name of and the ones she doesn't know what it's called. There is fried chicken, chicken sauce, and white rice with vegetables sprinkled on top of it. Stew sauce and so many others but what she could not fail to notice was the pasta that was among the dishes. She could not believe that pasta would be among the dishes that will be served. She could do anything for pasta, her love for pasta was something else.

She remembered when her mom was alive, she prepared pasta for her almost every day and the family made it a favorite because it was her favorite. Her mom did not fail to teach her how to make it so when her mom died, she continued to make it for herself and her brother, Ander.
