Luke kept observing her as she scanned the whole dishes, he is not surprised to see the look of surprise on her face. He knows where she is coming from and knows that she can't afford most of the necessities of life. He won't blame her that she had to grab this opportunity to be married into his Family, it's not easy to resist the urge of being wealthy even when you know you will be treated like a piece of wood.
Senior Bleak could not help but look from one person to another, he was amused by the expression on Alex's face. It looks like she is afraid of the dishes.
He chuckled and smiled, the lady is cute and she would make a good wife for his grandson, Josh. He wondered why Luke had to let go of such a gem.
"I am starving, can we eat now? Too much drooling over feed shows how poor one is"
Luke said and eyed Alex, obviously, he was referring to Alex. Alex, who knew who he was referring to, kept a straight face.
"Let the dog continue to bark"
She thought and rolled her eyes.
Senior Bleak chuckled, "no one is poor, Luke. Sometimes you are overwhelmed that you only do nothing but stare"
Josh was amused that his grandfather would defend Alex, this is getting more interesting for him. His grandfather he knows would not defend anyone.
Alex was surprised that this old man seems to like her a lot to the extent of protecting her. She could survive under his watch but what happens when he is not there so it's not enough reason for her to get married to Josh? She would not be marrying him but Josh, so she has to liberate herself before it's too late.
"Enough of the talking, let's eat dinner because two people among us have got a big day tomorrow"
Senior Bleak stated and smiled at Alex and Josh, Alex muffled a smile while Josh sighed and Luke huffed.
The maids around dish out for them according to what each choice is.
Alex, who could not take her eyes off the pasta, requested for it. Luke smiled to himself when he saw how happy she was eating the pasta.
Josh, who had requested for rice and chicken sauce, blocked everyone off his mind and began to eat.
Senior Bleak asked for rice and stew sauce while Luke requested for Spaghetti and chicken sauce. It looks like it's only Alex who is eating the pasta and that made her to be thankful, she doesn't want to share because the pasta available will not be enough for her, if only Ander is here, her joy will be complete.
Thinking of Ander made her lose her appetite a little. She can't tell how he is faring at the moment and if he is coming home for Christmas. She looked at Josh who was engrossed in his meal and wished he could be merciful enough and lend her her phone so that she can phone her brother.
She leaned to him and whispered,
"Can you be kind enough to lend me my phone, be a good boy once in your life"
To Senior Bleak, that sight was nice to behold and Luke who could not stop the lovey-dovey attitude from Alex and Josh glared at them.
Josh chuckled at Luke's expression and lent forward to Alex's ear and whispered.
"No my darling, you can only have it after the wedding"
Alex shot him a look and pulled away.
The a*shole would not stop being an a*shole. She asked nicely, he is lucky they were not alone, she would have kicked his balls.
"Alex you are so sweet, I am sure after marriage, Josh would not stay out late, he would want to come home early every day."
Senior Bleak suddenly said,
"That was how my late wife changed me. I used to be like Josh but after I got married, I became a different person. Women are so blessed that they can mold the best out of us"
He concluded and smiled at the memory, marriage is sweet when you marry the right person.
Alex only smiled at what Senior Bleak said. His wife must have been a very nice person for him to speak about her with so much passion. It's obvious Senior Bleak married the love of his life. She can't say that about Josh. Josh is not even close as a lover, he is just a total stranger who she got entangled with and in her quest to pay back, she bagged herself a Christmas wedding.
How can she explain to this man that what she said back then was out of bitterness, how can she let him know that she does not like Josh and wants the marriage thing terminated but she would be ashamed? Luke would have the last laugh which she can't let happen.
Can she pay the price of losing her sanity over this marriage proposal? She knows; if she marries Josh that her sanity will be gone but looking at it from this perspective if she marries into the Bleak family, her brother will have a better life, and they would not have to struggle anymore.
Can she pay the price of losing her sanity for her brother's happiness?
She clearly knows what she will be getting herself into if she marries Josh, can the gain be greater than the pain?
Is there a chance that she and Josh will have a thing in the future?
At this point, Alex made up her mind to marry Josh no matter what the outcome will be, all that matters is her brother's happiness, she can do anything for him because she loves him so much, if he can be happy then she is willing to pay this price.
Indeed she will be getting married tomorrow, she is not fighting it anymore and she is not escaping, it's a do-or-die affair for her now.
This year Christmas Eve has brought two twists in her life, first, her lover broke up with her for another lady, and secondly, she got entangled with her ex's brother and she would be marrying him in a few hours, is God not faithful?
With that resolve safely kept in her mind, she breathed in and then out. She is in for good, come rain, come shine.
Alex looked at Josh as he eats his dinner quietly and asked herself
"So in a few hours, she would be called Mrs. Josh Bleak"
She took another spoonful of pasta and smiled at Luke who in return smirked at her, she looked away.
"He is so annoying with this irritative smirk on his face?"
She thought.
"If only he knows that he looks ugly and evil when he smirks like that, he would stop smirking"
Josh watched two as they scared themselves with stares and he laughed in his mind.
How two people who claimed to love themselves became enemies in a short period. That's why he doesn't believe in love, the world keeps lying to them that love is the sweetest thing one can find.
She is his wife to be so it's better she and Luke becomes enemy, in as much as he is not marrying her because he wants to, he would not want to hear that she made up with Luke and ditched him, that will be a big slap on his face so the two should remain enemies and he would help them to continue to be enemies.
Everyone dwelt on their own thoughts as they ate dinner, the dining room is as quiet as a graveyard, the only noise that is heard is the meeting of the forks on the plate.
The rich when they eat conversed, it's a get-together for the family but The Bleak Family will never be normal. There were few words said because of Alex.
Normalcy can't be expected in the Bleak when no one is normal. That's why Senior Bleak would convert the other grandson's wedding day into another.
If not that the wedding will be a low-key wedding, the invitees would have to be shocked to realize that they came for the wrong wedding.
