23 Eve Crescent was a quiet cul de sac in Carron. In a deep gorge, behind the crescent, flowed the river Carron. It was damp and dark by the time McEwan arrived there. The bungalow had lights on and two cars parked outside, one in the driveway the other on the street. He parked on the road in front of the small blue Fiat Uno. He took a deep breath. Just like being outside her flat, he had butterflies in his stomach. McEwan had even less idea what to expect this time. Before he was just worried he was going to look foolish.
