Cato and Justus looked at the door to Alpha Markus' chambers. They both hesitated to go in. Cato ran his hand through his hair. He isn’t the one to get agitated, especially when it is about his father. He dislikes his father. He felt Markus had something planned for him that he wouldn’t be happy about. Justus was nervous because Cato was acting a little bit nervous.
“If you had come earlier, it would have been way easier.”
“Come on Cato, I told you I was with Linda, it is hard to control Julius when it comes to...” Justus Wolf, Julius growled in Justus’ head. He was angry that Justus was using him as a defense for an absurd reason. What else did he have him for? Justus growled again. Justus got the feeling his wolf wanted to jump out of his body. The feeling tingled him a bit.
Justus looked at Cato. Cato didn’t understand his point or maybe an excuse.
“When you find your mate you will understand”
Cato growled at that. He didn’t want to find his mate. At least that is what he thought.
“I don’t give a s**t about mate bonding or mates. Don’t talk about it again”, he growled angrily. His eyes got a little darker than usual.
Justus shook his head and said he was sorry as he didn’t want to anger him. Cato had no idea about mate bonding. He, too, wasn’t ready to find his mate until he eventually did. He couldn’t even deny the mate bond for long.
“Let’s go in.”
Cato shrugged as he turned the door knob in the shape of a golden wolf’s head and entered the alpha’s chambers. Justus took a deep breath before he followed him inside. If Cato is anything near agitated, Justus is a hundred times more.
The door knob is nothing compared to the interior of the chambers. Justus couldn’t help himself as he looked around, as he drank in the beauty of his surroundings. It wasn’t the first time he had been in the alpha’s chambers, he just couldn’t get enough of its beauty, and he was always transfixed anytime he visited there.
A golden- framed bed with bed sheets spotless white, and a magnificent headrest. Besides the bed, a beautiful polished golden wolf. It must be alpha Marcus. That’s what Justus thought. On the walls are paintings of every single alpha and Luna of the Croton Pack in descending order.
“You are both late”. Justus turned his head to the other side.
The alpha is sitting on the sofa cross-legged. He has a powerful aura. Jet black hair resembles Cato’s, bristly brows, gorgeous grey eyes, long straight nose, defined cheekbones and a long stubble chin. He is a very handsome man. Cato’s eyes, hair and chin are similar to his father’s. He is wearing grey blazers, a white shirt, grey pants and a tie of the same cloth, and shoes to match his blazers. It made up a nice suit.
Next to Marcus was his beautiful mate, Lady Vida, her brown hair dropped on her shoulders. She had moderate eyebrows, brown cat eyes, a long nose, and full red lips that always wore a beautiful smile. Contrasted to her husband, he never smiles. She has a perfect oval face, Cato resembles his mother. Luna dressed to match her husband. They returned from a meeting with the alpha of an American pack. The Alpha and Luna sat on a white love seat next to the window, giving them a breathtaking view of the city.
Next to them, their beta Zachary sat in a white armchair. He had a strong scent and aura but not as dominating and powerful as Marcus. His black hair, gorgeous hazel eyes, pointed nose, not too full lips and smooth jaw are on his oval face. He had broad shoulders and had a hunky stature. He is also very handsome with a gentle face and an adorable smile, unlike Marcus.
The alpha and beta are diverse in character but they get along pretty well. Zachary was in a red t-shirt and sweatpants with red sneakers. He was smoking a cigarette. He also wasn’t prepared for the emergency meeting as he found out about it late.
“You are late.” Alpha Marcus repeated as he rose to his full height. With eye calculation, his height is about six to seven. Justus looked at Cato, who didn’t flinch, instead glared at the alpha.
“I am speaking to you, Cato, you are expected to reply.” The alpha says calmly but intimidatingly. Cato wasn’t affected. He just looked back and shrugged.
“What if I don’t have an answer?”
Justus felt a little responsible for the situation.
“Fine, we apologize.” Everyone present was shocked. Cato apologized without any fuss.
“You are sorry it means nothing,” Marcus snapped,
“I didn’t say sorry.”
Marcus ignored him and went back to his seat. He was getting angry. Vida understood this and put her arm on his shoulder, his fuming muscles relaxed due to their contact. Everyone appreciated Luna’s work.
“You don’t have to be thick-skinned Marcus, they are still very young.” Zachary chirped while smoking his cigarette.
“Zachary, they are the next rulers of the strongest pack in Italy. They have to be sharp and solemn. If they do not possess the attributes that will impress me, I’ll give their post to more mature people.”
Lady Vida removed her hands from Marcus’ shoulder.
“Oh come on lax.”
Marcus' eyes widened when he heard Zachary call him ‘lax’ in front of the children.
“What exactly do you want from these guys? Cato is exactly how you want him to be or worse. Justus is…… at least trying”.
“I’m not who Alpha Marcus wants me to be.”
“Don’t say that, Cato.” Vida turned to her husband. “You cannot do that, Marcus. There are no other options for the alpha title and beta title.”
“Well, Vida, we all know there are two options for the alpha title.”
Vida rose to her feet to meet Marcus, who was standing in front of Cato.
“I can’t remember having any other son besides Cato.”
`
“Cato’s cousin, Romero, is an option for the alpha’s title.”
Romero is the child of Marcus’ late brother, Luca. Luca was meant to be the alpha of the Croton Pack, but gave the title to Marcus instead. Romero is an option for the alpha title if Cato dies, doesn’t find his mate, or is exiled. Not everyone will agree with Romero becoming the alpha because he is illegitimate.
“There is no way you are comparing my son with an illegitimate child.”
“Why can’t I?” Marcus snarled as he turned to face Vida. “His father is my elder brother who has done a lot for me. I expect all of you to treat your son with respect, irrespective of who he is.”
“Don’t claim all righteousness, since when did you care about what people did for you?” Vida snapped. She didn’t look her usual self as she was very angry. She also didn’t have a smile on her face anymore.
Cato kept quiet. He watched both his parents argue over something he thought was stupid. Justus blamed himself for the situation, if he had come earlier. Zachary watched amused, but he knew he needed to say something to end this madness.
“I’m sure this is not the reason for this gathering. You preach punctuality and seriousness. Yet we have spent fifteen minutes here without doing anything valuable. Why? I’ll answer Alpha Marcus can’t start a meeting without arguing with his son. That is his opening prayer. Marcus Sir, we have already spent more than ten minutes on opening prayer letting the meeting proceed.”
They all looked at Zachary, who just continued with his cigarette. “Jeez, that is the most I have said in a day.”
“He is right,” Vida agreed. Marcus softened a little and went back to his seat. Vida followed suit but sat on another sofa. Marcus growled at that, which earned a shrug from Vida. Marcus ushered Cato and Justus to a vacant love seat. They nodded and made themselves comfortable.
