In all of my years of living, I can count in two hands the amount of times I was taken by surprise. I pride myself on being able to stay calm in any situation, no matter how ridiculous it might be, but lately, almost a quarter of the time, I got surprised it was linked to Cali somehow, and now she's done it again.
"Are you okay? Do you need more water?" Cali asked as she rubbed my back smoothly, which, by the way, did nothing to my nerves at all.
"It's fine, I'm fine. Sorry for overeacting." I coughed one last time before waving my hands around, a little awkwardly, but it did its job because Cali backed away, her lower lip caught between her teeth anxiously.
