Chapter 5

P.O.V. jack

I can tell by the look on her face that she can smell us but she hasnt figured out who it is but she will know later. Onyx has been very silent since we pulled up to the house we can smell her and its driving us crazy i have no idea how i am going to wait until her shift tonight. I mind link my dad “im not sure if i can do this dad...onyx and i can smell her its driving us crazy”

“Dont worry son you can do this i know how hard it is trust me, i believe in you” he says going up to ren and telling her happy birthday.

I stand in the back of the group not wanting to get any closer, i dont think i can control my self if i get any closer her scent is so much stronger than before.

“Im going to go get the cooler dad, thomas why dont you come help me out” i say walking to the front door. Thomas sighs and follows me out.

“Dude what is wrong with you. Youve been acting all fine until we got here” thomas asks following me.

“Her scent is so much stronger tim not sure if i can handle being in that house so close to her...i know she knows im here so does her wolf onyx moved to the back of my mind so that he didnt lose control” i tell him as i open the back of the suv.

“That isnt good. I think we should stay outside and get the grill started then” he says concerned.

“Ya i agree...now grab a side d**k head” i say laughing. He says groans and grabs the other handle.we start walking to the back yard.

“Why were they eating breakfast its past noon” thomas says as we round the cornerof the house and head to the back yeard.

“Maybe its cause ren just woke up”

“How can you tell?” thomas asks.

“Her hair was damp and she smelled like roses” i say walking up to the grill that they have set on the porch.

P.O.V. Ren

I watch as jack sets the cooler down next to the grill talking the whole time.

‘I have a feeling that one of them is my mate” i tell pheonix.

‘Why do you say that’ she asks i can feel her more now.

‘Because as soon as they walked out the front door that amzing smell went with them’ i say looking out the window at them.

‘One of them might be’ she says.

‘What do you know pheonix’

‘ i know nothing’ she says going to the back of my mind out of my reach. I sigh and get up and follow everyone else out the back.

“So when is everyone else showing up” i ask sitting down in my chair.

“I told people that the party starts at 2… but you know how some people can be, they can show up any time soon” beth says just as a few people i recognize from school. I still cant tell the difference from my pack members and jacks pack members so im not sure which one.

“Hi jack...i didnt know you would be here” a tall blonde says firtatiously. For some reason i feel very jealous that this chick is hitting on jack. I wish pheonix didnt run to the back of my mind i could serously use a talk with her about all this stuff.

More and more people show up making the house and yard full of people and only a handfull of those people i actually know. After people started showing up thats when i stopped smelling that amazing smell and i drove me crazy. Everyone has already started eating now the ones that were done started drinking but i noticed that most of the younger guys werent drinking but they were just acting like they are drunk besides jack i can tell he keeps glancing over at me.

‘O i pray to the goddess that jack is not my mate he has been a creep since last year and everytime ive asked he refuses to tell me why’ i say to pheonix putting my face in my hands.

‘ would it be that bad if he was...i mean just look at him, hes one fine alpha’ she says practically drooling over him. I roll my eyes,

‘Hes a creep how can you think he is fine’ i say looking up at jack through the meas of people and notice him looking at me. I quickly look away.

‘He was just starin at us’ she says kinda giddily.

‘Stop getting giddy over him please its gross’ i say now a little grossed out.

“hi , im rose” the women who came with jack says making me jump a little.

“Hi” i say back looking at her.

“Im jacks mom” she says noticing me being a little uncomfortable.

“I sorta figured you were his mom”

“Jack think you hate him” rose says concerned.

“Oooh i take it he over heard me talking to my friends” i say with a sigh.

“Yeah im pretty sure” she says with a laugh.

“I didnt say i hated him…. I wasnt talking about him when i said i hated him...i was talking about my alpha” i say looking down and whispering the last part.

“But he is right i dont like him. Hes been very creepy since last year and ive told him im not interested in him but he just wouldnt get the hint….im waiting on my mate i dont want a random guy” i say looking up and seeing jack watching us.

“I completely understand that, i was the same way when i was your age...but maybe you should give him a chance and get to know him even if hes not your mate you guys can be friends just get to know him a little bit?” rose says.

P.O.V. jack

I watch as my mom talks to ren, which makes me nervous because i cant hear what they are saying because i am to far away and there are way to many people here. I look down at my watch and get excieted because most of these people will be leaving soon and she will shift for the first time.

I look over at thomas and internally laugh at him as he swoons over katie. There are very few people know that they are mates. Out of the corner of my eye i see ren get up and start to walk over to me and the boys.

‘Maybe mom actually convinced her to get to know us’ onyx says getting excieted.

‘Im pretty sure she did...shes good at convincing people to do things they dont like to do’ i say watching her walk up out of the corner of my eye.

“Hey jack, ren is walking over here right now” thomas whispers.

“I know she is i can see her...shes going to figure out im her mate i dont know if im ready for that yet” i whisper back.

“Just go with the flow bro...shell love you no mater what” thomas say right as she stops in front of us.

“Hey guys…. Your mom sorta guilt tripped me to come over here and get to know you” she says shoving her hands in her obviously uncomfortable.

“Yea she does that really well sometimes. She still does it to me sometimes but thats only with chores and helping my dad with pack stuff mostly” i say smiling.

“Happy birthday by the way” i say taking a small step back.

“Thank you...how are you guys liking the party?”she asking looking between thomas and I.

“Were having fun...but i think there is still to many people here.do you think people will leave before we have the shifting party?” thomas asks looking around at all the people still here.

“Im hoping so cause i dont want to stand there naked in front of all these people i dont know” ren says, her face going red. I resist the urge to show how much that bothers me that all these male unmated wolves are going to see my mate naked and exposed.

‘Control your self jack we cant let her know just yet...it bothers me to but its a normal thing for wolves to be exposed like that’ onyx says, i can feel how possesive he is being about this thought.

Just then beth, my father and my mother stand up on the porch to make an announcement.

“I hope everyone has enjoyed the party so far but we are going to be having another private event and we need people that are not close to ren to start leaving you know who you are...the ones that are supposed to be staying also know who you are” my father says, and people start to leave.

Thomas leans over and whispers.”are we supposed to stay?”

“Yes you dip were supposed to stay here. The only ones that stay are us the worriors that we brought with us and rens friens are supposed to stay” i whisper back hopping ren didnt hear us.

“Im really nervous for this...is it going to be really painfull”ren asks.

“It can be ...if you dont relax and dont fight it” thomas says.

“I fought the change and it hurt so much….think about something that will distract you fromt the pain” i say shivering as i think about my first shift.

“THOMAS!”katie screams as just jumps on his back making him almost fall over.

“Katie, there you are ive been looking for you” he syas grabbing hold of her thighs. Out of the corner of my i see the confused look that crosses over her face.

“Oh i probably should have told you this along time ago but thomas is my mate i found out on my birthday” katie says locking her fingers infront of thomas.

“Missy we will talk about this later” ren says giving katie a pointed look.

Soon it was just the people that are supposed to be prensent for the shifting party, and we all start to walk to the forest katie still on thomas’ back, i shake my head.

‘You know thats gonna be us right” onyx says

‘No we wont we wont be that clingy its gross’i reply, just as someone bumps my arm. I look over and see ren next to me, looking up at me and i can tell she wants to say something.

“I know your my mate...right now im not sure how i feel about it...we hardly know eachother” she says shaking her head and looking down.

“How did you figure it out?” i ask looking concerned, hoping she doesnt reject me right here and now.

“Well when you and thomas left to start grilling...the smell of a burning fire and rain left with you two so i know it was one of you and with the information that katie and thomas are mates that only leaves you” she say looking up at me, i look away not ready to look her in the eye.

“Im not going to reject you if thats what your thinking” she looks away.

“Really? I was sure that you would reject me if you found out before you fully shifted. Ive over heard what youve said about me” i say looking up to see how close we are to the tree line.she stops mid-step and looks up at me with concern on her face.

“Im sorry, i must seem a bit stuck up to you dont i?”

‘She actually cares what we think of her’ onyx says surprised at her reaction.

“Ren, i dont think anything bad about you all ive ever thought about you is that you are the most amazing and beautiful girl ive ever seen and i thought that even before i found out you were my mate” i say stroking her cheek. I see the sparkle in her eyes.

‘She can start feeling the tingles from our touch the closer it gets to the moon getting to its apex the more things she can do and sense’ onyx says trying to control him self. I feel her push her face into my and and sigh, she realizes what she just did and takes a few steps back

“Im sorry.”she says going red.

“Sweet heart dont be sorry you can touch me any time you like”i say grabbing her and and pulling her towards me.

“jack ...we need to get to the clearing or were going to be late” she says pulling away and walking into the trees.
