Keiera had to bid Riley and Matt goodbye after they returned for Riley’s studies. The farewell was bittersweet, their time together too short and now abruptly ending. Keiera hugged Riley tightly, feeling a lump in her throat.
“Take care of yourself, Keiera,” Riley said softly, her eyes filled with concern. “We’ll be back soon.”
Matt nodded, giving Keiera a reassuring smile. “And if you need us, we’re just a phone call away.”
Keiera managed a small smile, though her heart was heavy. “I’ll miss you both. Stay safe.”
As she watched them drive away, Keiera felt a sense of loneliness creep in. They were her only solace in this increasingly hostile pack. She took a deep breath and steeled herself before heading back to the pack house.
