Third POV
Keiera's heart skipped a beat as the maid's gentle voice pierced the silence of her room. The mere mention of being summoned by the Alpha sent a shiver down her spine, a mix of anticipation and dread swirling within her chest.
"Luna Keiera, you have been summoned by the Alpha to come join him for dinner," the maid murmured softly, her words hanging in the air like a weighty veil of uncertainty before she retreated, leaving Keiera alone with her thoughts.
The invitation was unexpected, to say the least. Why would Alpha Kyan want her presence at dinner, especially after everything that had transpired between them?
With a mix of curiosity and trepidation gnawing at her insides, Keiera wasted no time in getting ready. She couldn't afford to keep the Alpha waiting, not when the stakes were so high. Perhaps, she dared to hope, he had reconsidered his stance on their unborn child. Maybe he had finally realized the gravity of the situation and was willing to do right by their baby.
As she smoothed down the fabric of her dress and prepared to face whatever awaited her in the dining hall, Keiera clung to the fragile thread of hope that had begun to unfurl within her. For tonight, at least, she allowed herself to entertain the possibility of a brighter future, one where she and Kyan could find common ground for the sake of their child. But deep down, she knew that the path ahead was fraught with uncertainty, and the true intentions behind Kyan's summons remained shrouded in mystery.
As Keiera stepped into the dining hall, the tension in the air was palpable, a heavy veil of unease settling over the room like a suffocating fog. The sumptuous feast laid out before them remained untouched, a silent testament to the unspoken decree imposed by Alpha Ryan. His influence hung over the room like a dark cloud, casting a shadow of apprehension over the proceedings.
With a quiet nod of acknowledgment, Keiera offered a respectful greeting to Alpha Kyan, her gaze flickering briefly to Andrea's smug form beside him. It was a bitter pill to swallow, seeing the woman who had usurped her place at Kyan's side, but Keiera knew better than to show her hand in front of their alpha.
"Alpha Kyan, you really didn't have to bother. But thank you for inviting me for a meal," Keiera murmured, her words laced with forced civility as she attempted to navigate the treacherous waters of polite conversation.
But Kyan's response was curt, his attention already drifting elsewhere as he signaled for the meal to begin. It was a subtle dismissal, a clear indication that Keiera's presence was merely a formality, nothing more.
And then, like a serpent slithering from the shadows, Andrea wasted no time in asserting her dominance. With calculated precision, she moved closer to Kyan, her actions dripping with thinly veiled seduction as she sought to cement her place by his side.
In that moment, Keiera felt a surge of anger and resentment bubbling up inside her, threatening to spill over. How dare Andrea flaunt her presence so brazenly, knowing full well the pain she had caused? But beneath the facade of composure, Keiera seethed with a quiet determination.
As Andrea's laughter echoed through the dining hall, a knot of frustration tightened in Keiera's chest, threatening to suffocate her with its intensity. Each peal of laughter felt like a dagger to her heart, a cruel reminder of the divide between her and the couple seated across from her.
With a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, Keiera couldn't help but feel as though Andrea's laughter was directed squarely at her, a mocking taunt disguised as innocent amusement. The way Andrea's eyes flickered with mischief before she whispered to Kyan only added fuel to the fire of Keiera's rage.
It was infuriating, to say the least. What could possibly be so amusing about the meal they were sharing, especially when Keiera herself struggled to find any semblance of appetite in the face of such blatant mockery?
Alpha Kyan's passive response only served to exacerbate Keiera's sense of isolation, his nodding akin to a betrayal of her trust. It was as if he were condoning Andrea's behavior, silently endorsing her taunts at Keiera's expense.
But Keiera refused to be reduced to a mere object of amusement for the couple's entertainment. With a clenched jaw and a steely resolve burning in her eyes, she pushed back from the table, her decision made in a whirlwind of anger and indignation.
As Keiera rose from her seat, a surge of apprehension coursed through her veins, her every movement tinged with a palpable sense of unease. The weight of Alpha Kyan's gaze bore down on her like a leaden blanket, his words a thinly veiled concern cloaked in the guise of casual conversation.
"Hmmm, Keiera, are you done eating? I think you are losing a lot of weight rapidly," Kyan's voice cut through the tense silence, his eyes boring into hers in search of answers. But beneath the facade of concern, Keiera detected a hint of something else, something darker lurking just beneath the surface.
"I lost my appetite, I will eat later, Alpha," Keiera murmured, her voice barely above a whisper as she fought to maintain her composure. Every fiber of her being screamed to flee the suffocating atmosphere of the dining hall, but she forced herself to remain rooted in place, her hand trembling slightly as it grasped the edge of the table for support.
But Andrea, ever the picture of sweet innocence, couldn't resist the opportunity to needle Keiera further. With a saccharine smile plastered on her lips, she chimed in with her own brand of twisted concern, her words dripping with insincerity.
"Keiera, I think you should eat more so that grandma doesn't think we are starving you," Andrea's voice oozed with faux sweetness, a facade Keiera knew all too well. Beneath the mask of politeness lay a viper waiting to strike, a reminder of the treacherous game being played out before her very eyes.
Despite the knowledge that Andrea would always hold a special place in Kyan's heart as his first mate and lover, Keiera couldn't help but feel a surge of vindictive satisfaction bubbling up inside her. With a calculated flick of her tongue against her lips, she met Andrea's gaze head-on, a silent challenge simmering in the depths of her eyes.
"I certainly know where the kitchen is if I want to eat. Andrea, I am not the stranger in this pack, I am the Luna. So if I decide not to eat, I don't see how it's any of your concern," Keiera's voice was cold, her tone laced with simmering anger as she refused to back down in the face of Andrea's provocation.
But Andrea, ever the master manipulator, wasted no time in twisting the situation to her advantage. With practiced ease, she turned to Kyan, her words a carefully crafted web of deception designed to cast Keiera in the role of the aggressor.
And then, like a storm unleashed, Alpha Kyan's reaction was swift and brutal. He rose from his seat with a ferocity that sent shockwaves rippling through the room, his eyes blazing with an intensity that chilled Keiera to the bone.
"You will apologize to Andrea now!!!" Kyan's voice thundered through the air, his grip on Keiera's hands like a vice as he forced her to confront the consequences of her defiance. In that moment, he was no longer the calm and composed alpha she had come to know, but a force of nature unleashed, his rage boiling over in a torrent of fury.
Keiera felt as though the ground had been pulled out from beneath her feet, her resolve crumbling in the face of Kyan's wrath.
