Damien’s p.o.v you already know am Autumn Queen. she started. Smart mouth. I blame you for having such a stupid family name. otherwise you would not have suspected anything. what grown man introduces himself as queen. well, unless you are Oliver. I frowned. The green arrow? I was even more confused. You are boring. Mom was not wrong about that. s**t. So she is mine. But how? My mom is Christina Kendall-Queen. well, Christina Kendall. Your ex-wife. Of course. The invisible woman I was married to was her mother. If her mother never talked about me how did she know she was my ex? Aunt Kira and Allison told me how my mom got me. You should really talk to mom about all this. All I can do is confirm that you are my dad. You never wanted me so I will not be getting to know you better. Bye. She got up and Meredith ran to her and took her home. What did she mean I did not want her? I didn’t know she existed. Well, I never wanted to have a family, especially not with her. But if I knew she was pregnant with my child I would have taken responsibility and raised her. She was my blood after all. When I turned twenty-one and Queen construction was on its feet, my dad told me to get married. It would improve my public image and I would have someone to share the burden with. The second part was utter bullshit but the first part made sense. Many young people who start companies have a problem with public image because of affairs and s*x scandals. Some of these scandals have led to the downfall of companies. I did not want that so I agreed to get married but on the condition that it would be a contract marriage and that it would only last three years. Those were enough for Queen construction to be a billion-dollar company and well able to withstand anything. My dad agreed. He always knew that I was against marriage from a young age. I told him to find me someone since I was swamped with work. Kristy was working as Dylan’s secretary at the time and for some reason dad adored her. She agreed. The terms of the contract were simple: 1. we were to appear In public for events as husband and wife. I would be the successful husband and she would be the trophy wife. 2. We would live in the same house. My house because I was sure that her apartment was tiny and shabby. 3. I would give her an allowance of one million dollars per month and dad would also give her one million dollars per month. And a compensation of thirty six million dollars at the end of the three years. 4. {this was put in by her} she would continue her work despite the marriage. She would not be a house wife. 5. She was allowed to ask for more money if the monthly allowance was not enough to cover her needs. 6. She would leave silently after the end of the contract. And the public would be told that the divorce was due to general marital disagreements. She kept the agreements. She was a trophy wife in every sense of the word. No one could tell that she was a mere secretary. We barely saw each other. The only time we would see each other was when we had a public event together. During our last year of marriage, she stayed home more often. Especially the last few months. I am suddenly realizing that it was due to the pregnancy. It has been a decade since we separated which meant Autumn was ten. When it was time to go, she left so quietly. I came home to find her gone and my place back to factory settings as if the last three years had been a figment of my imagination. It was like she had been erased from my life leaving behind no trace. Except she carried a huge part of me with her so there was no way in hell that she had forgotten me in the past decade. s*x was not part of our marriage because she was painfully plain-looking and nothing about her turned me on. And she was always busy. She was employed and that ought to be tough. But one day we just found ourselves in a compromising position. I was drunk and barely remembered anything about that encounter but so was she. We never talked about it or even acknowledged it. We moved on as if nothing had happened. I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard heels clicking their way to me. I looked in the direction for the annoying sound to see none other than my ex. I was taken back. She looked nothing like I remembered. Did I say she was painfully plain looking? Well, now she was drop dead hot. She had a glow up over the last year. Wow, if she looked like this when we were together I would not have let her go. s**t. Maybe I would even have fallen in love with her. Okay. That’s a little too far but maybe I would have given this love thing a try. Maybe. She sat across from me looking nervous as hell. I frowned. What was she so nervous about? You are not going to take her from me, right? She asked. Her voice was soothing despite the slight shake in it. What? I raised a single brow at her. You are not here to take my daughter away, right? She means the world to me and I will fight you for her if I have to. She declared with a fire I never saw in her. This was the first thing she was saying to me after a decade? Christina’s p.o.v I was seated in my office trying to get through another busy day when Meredith called me. Right, Autumn had to be out of school. Hey M. she took a while before answering. And when she did she was stuttering it’s about Autumn. That statement was enough to have me out of my chair and grabbing my bag to go home. What about my princess? Is she alright? I asked. By this time, I was in the elevator headed to the basement for my car. Damien Queen is here. And he is seated with princess having a conversation. Although I can’t hear from where am seated. All I could hear now was the ringing in my ears. My chauffer opened the door and sped home like I instructed him to. But there was traffic since it was time for regular hours people to go home. My mind drifted away. Shibal. Why the f**k is Damien at my apartment? It’s been a decade. And how in the hell did he discover about Autumn. Why was he talking to her. I got my little princess by accident that day, I had been drinking with Kira and Allison. We were celebrating that my automobile company had hit one year with the most amazing sales and profits. Damien had been drinking at the company’s anniversary dinner. I did not go simply because our contract was months away from ending and I did not need to hang off his arm any more. We stumbled into each other drunkenly on the bed and one thing led to another and we did the naughty. It was the only time we had physical relations during our entire marriage. I must have been a nightmare in a previous life because my luck w as so bad that I got pregnant. I was going to tell him but it would have been pointless. I meant nothing to him. He was a sperm donor to me and that was all he was to me. Wait let me start from the beginning. I was a millionaire. Self-made. I was an accountant by profession and I happened to work at an auditing firm that payed really well. They used to run numbers for all the elites in the city. It was where I met Kiara and Allison. I saved up and invested in various things. Finally, I started my own editing firm with my two girls. We worked online for companies that were starting up and did not know the job market well. Our client list grew with time. Slowly but surely. Somehow, Dylan stumbled upon us in a club one day. He was looking for a designated driver to take his drunk ass home but he passed out before he could complete the request. We took pity on him and took him home with us. None of us could drive because we were wasted so we stuffed his phone and car keys in his pocket and ubered home. When he woke up the next day, he said to ask him for any favor. We gave him our business card and he sent big clients to our direction and soon our company was doing really well. I had enough money for another investment. I had always wanted to run a car dealership shop but I did not know anything about cars. So I would leech off someone who was well versed in the field. I called Dylan and he agreed to do me the favor. I was going to work for him as a secretary and there I would meet all kinds of people and learn all that I wanted. That is where I met Henry Queen of Queen enterprises. He was looking for a car to surprise his wife for their anniversary. Sales was not my department so I had no business meeting him. But it was a right place at the right time kind of situation. He had slipped and fell in the kitchen while getting a drink of water and I just happened to find him and take him to the hospital. I would call once in a while to know how he was doing. His wife invited me to lunch to thank me for helping her husband. Fast forward to months later when they told me that they wanted me to marry their son whose business had just stood on its feet. And thus, I met Damien, the coldest young man I had the displeasure of meeting. Going into this marriage I was not expecting any kind of romance. He was not interested in marriage and neither was I. at that time anyway. I agreed to be his wife to change my status from millionaire to billionaire. The queen name was huge and being Kendall-queen was bound to elevate s**t for me. I met all the who’s who in the parties and charities. I was able to expand my businesses. I had a goal. There was a time limit to my goldmine. Three years. So, I had no time to make my husband love me or whatever. I would have time for that in the future. Everything was going according to plan until I got pregnant. Damien had given me a rundown building as a wedding gift. He always thought I was beneath him because I was a secretary. Well, he thought that was what I did for work. But I worked for Dylan up to our first year of marriage and then I went back to my own business. My car business was in another state entirely. I turned the building into one of the best apartments in the city. After opening, all the units were bought out within three months. My unit was the penthouse and it took up the entire floor. I was finally comfortable and I would be able to take care of my child comfortably. When the contract was over, I hauled ass. I had begun showing and even though he never paid any attention to me, I did not want to risk him finding out I was pregnant with his child. So I erased myself from his apartment. He had the memory of a goldfish and I did not want him going crazy one day and looking for me. I did not want him to find out about autumn. The Queen’s did whatever they wanted. They had the power and money to behave that way. So, if he wanted to take Autumn, I would be powerless against him. When a few years passed by without any contact, I could now breath normally. I became a ghost. No one knew who the owner of my companies was. I was nominated for the ceo of the year award severally but I declined because despite having separated, I could not risk running into Damien. It took ten years but my worst fears came to life. Damien was back. And he knew about Autumn. Fuuck I felt like screaming. When the car screeched to a halt in front of my building, I ran out. I scanned the lobby until I caught sight of him. Autumn was nowhere in sight. I checked my phone to see Meredith had texted me to say they went up. I walked in the direction of Damien. I was not in a mood to be modest so I was clicking my heels against the tiles really loudly. This seemed to have caught his attention and he looked up at me. He had an expression I had not seen on his face. I could only describe it as being mesmerized. Was I going crazy or had he aged like fine wine over the last decade. When we were married he had a boyish look. He was still young. Now his features were more defined. He looked like a man. A very hot man. The suit he was in looked like it was tailored just for him. It fit him perfectly. His hair was thick and styled to make his face look more handsome. And had he gotten taller? Damn. No wonder him and his friends had been named among the most eligible bachelors in the city. And somewhere on top of the list in the state. I sat across from him. His expression was stoic and unreadable as always. I was nervous. I was sweating. Especially my thighs and I wished I would have been in a pair of trousers. He was looking at me intensely and for a moment I could not place what I was here to talk to him about. Autumn really took all his features. Right, Autumn. My princess. you are not going to take her away from me right? I ask him in a shaky voice. He raised one perfect brow at me. I willed my voice to steady. You are not here to take my daughter away, are you? She means the world to me and I will fight you if I have to. I said with faux confidence. I balled my fist to stop my hands from shaking. He was silent and just looking at me with an incredulous look. Hello Kristy. Long time no see, wife. I looked up a him. What did he just call me? I looked at him and I was sure confusion was written all over my face. He smiled and leaned back in the couch. Wife? Wife? No. that cannot be correct. Wife. He’s my husband. That did not even sound right. Why so confused? We are still married. My eyes bulged out of their sockets. Not attractive but I was not really his type. What was he talking about? I would know if I was still married right? Right?
