"So, how do alliances work again?" Weston, my younger brother who is also my Beta, asked me again. I swear, this kid gets me to repeat myself for his own enjoyment.
I sigh and say, "It is an agreement between packs to associate with each other, and to come up with negotiations to help each other out when it is needed. All alliances that are made between pack Alpha's-" I pause and look at my brother to make sure he's paying attention, while I put the car in park, sure enough, he's quietly, patiently listening beside me in the passenger seat, so I continue, "Basically, when we make an alliance with another Alpha, we agree to arrange our own meeting between the two, and get to know each other, and talk about what the other wants, or what the other has to offer, then we usually come up with an agreement and put it on paper and sign the contract. We usually have to get to know the other Alpha to see if the other can be trusted. We go to their balls, or ceremonies, etc, or when meetings are called for, to know them better. That way, an alliance can be stronger and set that way. When we make an alliance, we need to do it in front of other Alpha's, as witnesses. Even when we break alliances, the Alpha's are there as witnesses, and they call it void. This is in case the other Alpha who doesn't agree to break it can't claim that it was not broken. Sometimes, in emergencies, where another Alpha is doing criminal activity and is caught and their is proof, the other Alpha can call for a zoom meeting and break the alliance immediately instead of calling everyone to meet at a location, since all of us live far from each other."
He nods his head, "Got it, and are we making any alliances today?" He asks as he opens his door to step out.
I shrugged and said, "Maybe, maybe not, we'll see." I get out and walk around the car toward the back as I shut my door.
"There's not really anything that we can possibly want from other Alpha's is there?" He frowns as he shuts the door and turns to me as I dig in the trunk for our paperwork.
"There's nothing I want from anyone. We're managing our pack, quite well on our own. But, there could be an alpha that wants an alliance with us, due to us living in an overpopulated city, that can be used as protection to hide people." I tell him as I grab our files and hand them the paperwork and shut the trunk.
"Right. Well, good to know." He states as we walk side by side to the huge ugly brown building in front of us.
"Seriously, Weston, you have to keep going for your beta training and take it more seriously. I need you on par with me, I can't keep explaining our leadership ways to you. Everything, something like this, comes up. You should already know this, man." I shake my head as we step into the elevator.
"Always the fatherly brother." Weston chuckles as we got to the 4th floor of the building. It's now 8:45 am. I quickly checked my watch, and right before I was about to walk down the hall, my phone rang.
"What now?" I mumble as I quickly answer the phone, I already know who it is on the other line, "What?" I ask impatiently.
"When did you say you were going to be home again, I forgot." She says over the phone, I can hear loud music playing in the background.
"Tomorrow night." I frowned, "You better ot be throwing a party again. Remember last time." I warn.
She giggles into the phone, "Oh, relax, love, it's just a couple of girl friends of mine, they'll be gone by tonight. You can't expect me to be alone and bored while you're gone, doing whatever you may please. Anyway. I was calling to ask, if I can please, please, go to the club with my friends?"
I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose, "You are an adult, Darla, you don't have to ask my permission."
She squealed into the phone, and I grimaced as I pulled my phone from my ear, "Okay! Thanks, love! I'll call again! bye!!"
I groan as I hang up the phone and lean against the wall. This woman is making me worried. I know, I shouldn't have left her, I should have just brought her, now I have to worry about which club she's going to, with who knows who and doing who knows what."
My brother cleared his throat, and I looked up at him as he taps his wrist where his wristwatch should be, but he didn't own one. Glanced at the time, and it reads, 8:57 am. Goddess, that woman knows how to waste my time, "Let's go, or they'll lock us out right at 9."
I am a 30 year old Alpha in my pack, I obtained my pack at age 19, after my father and mother died. To me they died. I was left to raise my 8 year old brother at the time. Now he's this big ol annoying childish guy who is now 19. the same age I was when I had to complete my Alpha training quickly before I took up leadership. Now, my brother Weston is still a beta in training, but of course, he doesn't take it that seriously. He hopes that I find a new beta. I would have used the beta families beta child as my beta, but sadly, my parents' old friends also died before they could have any children. Though, I do have a good Gamma and Delta that are currently looking after the Winters pack in the big city that is 3 hours drive from here.
I don't have any other siblings, just Weston. My Gamma is supposed to be the main one focused on security measures around my pack and is also supposed to bound and protect and train the Luna. The Delta is in charge of tracking when it's needed and training our warrior while working alongside our Gamma. As for my Luna, well, she's the one I got off the phone with, Darla Summers, my chosen mate. She's my childhood friend. She lost her mate back when there was a rogue attack, he got killed I'm front of her, while protecting her, what's sad about it, was the fact that they literally just met that same day and were walking back to his place to get to know each other better.
I have never met my mate, so I gave up that idea years ago and settled for Darla 5 years ago. I've never been with anyone else except her, and she hasn't been with anyone else except me. I did mate and mark heras my own, but jsut because I did it, doesn't mean I may not meet my mate, it's always possible regardless of being marked by another, especially a chosen mate. Basically, because a chosen mate is not the goddesses wish or blessing, it means that the mark is not as strong as it is whenever you mark your fated mate. A fated mate is set in stone, a bound that can not be broken after the marking. However, both markings cause pain on both parties, but some do die if they reject each other after marking. It's less painful if you reject your mate before mating and marking, but it's still painful. Yes, if you meet your mate, and you sleep or kiss another, your mate feels the pain of betrayal with or without a mark involved.
As I walked into the meeting room, with my brother following behind me, I was hit with the most intoxicating scent of strawberries and vanilla. I sniff the air, drinking in that sweet aroma, following my instincts of where the smell can be coming from, and as I open my eyes. "MATE! FINALLY WE FIND HER!" My wolf Calm yells in my head. I see the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on, even though her mouth appears to be full with food, my eyes lock with her beautiful grey ones for a moment I frowned, because she appears to look as if she can't breathe. Is she choking on her food?
I quickly make my way toward her, not caring about the eyes on us and not caring about the fact that my brother, keeps pulling me back, I shake his hand free and keep walking toward my mate. Desperate to get to her, as her face turns red, from choking on her food. But, before I can get to her, a huge guy may be the same height as me stands in front of me , blocking her from view with a growl. Soon, I hear her coughing and gasping for air. But I am too angry to be relieved that someone else helped her. Who is this man in front of me?
I growled loudly. As I began to shake with rage, I knew I was about to shift. I wanted to lunge at this guy for getting in my way of my mate. All my rational thoughts were out the window, and all I wanted was to make sure she was okay. I didn't even realize men were shouting at me to calm down. Until someone bit my hand did I snap out of my never-ending growling and half shifting trance that I was in. I looked at my brother, holding my hand, with his teeth sunken into my skin as I slowly bled from his mouth. I blinked in confusion.
"Calm down, Alpha. Your mate is safe. You are frightening her, back off slowly." Weston reached my mind.
I take a deep breath and nod as he lets go, and we step back and go further away from my mate. While my wolf in my head whimpers at the short distance, we place ourselves from our mate. Goddess, I am an i***t. An even biggest one for losing faith and not waiting for her. I sat down at the nearest chair but far from her. I felt defeated inside. I already gave up on her without even waiting for her and getting to now her by choosing a chosen mate. This is what I get for not waiting. All I had to do was wait another 5 years. 5 years would have led me to this day. I looked up at her, and she had a frown on her face as she stared at me. Was that confusion?
Goddess, please give me the strength to reject her and set her free.
