Chapter 3

1507 Words
Ryker P.O.V It's been years since I've been back home. It's still the same but different. I don't want a whole lot of people knowing who I am because then I'd be fired left and right with millions of questions, and I don't have time for that. The only reason I even bothered to come back home is because of her. The woman who raised me and birthed me, my mom. It's her birthday today, so I'm stopping by to surprise her since I've never missed any of her birthdays. Usually we meet up in the big city but mom couldn't travel this time around because she has my younger sister at home with her, with all her little kids. My sister Rayne, didn't bother waiting for a mate and got pregnant and used by two different men so now she is responsible for 3 small children, my mother helps her a lot, considering she's also the baby of the family. My other sister, Ramona, will also be there. She's doing the decorations and all that crap while the other ones cook. All I have to do is pick up the cake that Row has already ordered. I have to pay it out and pick it up, I already have my mom's gift. I walk into Maddies Bakery, and immediately I can smell fresh cinnamon and baked apples. The smell makes my mouth water instantly. I walk up to the front, but I don't see a worker anywhere, I quickly glance around, confused. Is this place even open? I glance at the clock, and it reads 4:45 am. We are having my mother's birthday celebration by 11 a.m., and apparently, my sister must have it by 5. She said something about making a center piece that needs to he done first before everything else. Just when I was thinking to call the store manager a woman wearing all black came walking out of a side door I didn't see right away, she was carrying a huge 3 layered cake, she quickly packs it up with vampire speed, of course I can see her delicate hands skillfully at work. As she's packing, I get a good look at her heart-shaped face and her big, beautiful grey eyes, she's also has the most perfect curvy figure I've ever seen. She's gorgeous. She comes to the till without looking up at me, and that kind of bothers me that she won't make eye contact with me. She says, "That'll be $120. Your sister called and said you'd be here by this time, Sir." I rolled my eyes. Of course she has. I quickly tap my card to pay it, and then she hands me the receipt, which causes her to gasp slightly, and my eyes go wide for a second, and she says, "Sorry, I shocked you." She then picks up the cake and comes walking past me. I blinked a couple of times before I followed her, and I opened the back door for her to place the cake inside. "Thank you, but you didn't have to carry it for me." She looked up at me as she closed the door and shrugged, "You were too slow to offer to carry it, it was no problem, and besides, I have to close up the shop now. Enjoy your day, and Happy Birthday to your mother, Sir." She smiled. I reached out my hand to her and said, "I'm Ryker, not Sir. It's also a pleasure doing business with you." She took my hand in a firm grip and shook it while at the same time sparks tingled through my entire body, and the smell of apple cinnamon grew stronger as realization hit me, "MATE" my wolf yelled in my head. She smiled again, "Pleasure doing business with you, Ryker. I'm Lena. Nice to meet you, but I've gotta go." She pulled her hand out of mine and walked away. I stood there staring at her, walking away from me, still in shock that I had found my gorgeous mate. She's perfect. I want her so bad, but I can't. I straightened my shoulders and gritted my teeth and left, all the while my wolf whimpered at the distance I was putting between us and our mate. As soon as I got back to my mom's, my sister Row came running out, "Did you get it?!" "It's in the backseat." I tell her and gestured toward the car. "The backseat! It better not be ruined back there!" She huffed as she ran to the car. I met my other sister in the house, and she said, "I would leave right away if I were you. She'd put you to work." "I'm actually here to work. I'd rather keep busy than sit around anyway, I have nothing else to do anyway. The only thing I have to do later is pick up mom from work." I tell Rayne as I sit next to her and wait for our sister's next instructions. I barely come around anyway to do anything for my mom anymore. This is the least I can do as an absent son. I left home years ago. I didn't want to face my responsibilities because I didn't think I was worthy enough. There's no way that I can even fill the shoes of my father and grandfather. I just couldn't do what they did. I'm not here to dwell on the past, but the past keeps biting me in the ass every time I come back home. Maybe, this time, instead of running away, I should stay for a while. Just to see how things around here are going. "Liar, you want mate just as much as I do." Storm, my wolf says to me. "No, I want to know how the pack is doing." Storm just laughs at me while I shake my head at him. "Storm." I tell Rayne because she was looking at me. Rayne looked like she was going to say something but then our annoying bossy sister was standing in front of us and saying, "Alright, Rayne, I need you to blow up those balloons with this helium tank, and Ryker, I need you to get a ladder and hang up the yard lights and then hang up these decorations on the ceilings. Rayne, I need at least 50 balloons for this banner, then will need at least 50 more for all around the house and yard." Rayne and I both groan as we took off to do our tasks. We both hate doing things like this for Row. I don't mind building things for Row or my mom but decorating, not so much. But. It's all for my mom who deserves it, and that's my motivation for it. As I'm decorating and trying to keep busy, my mind wanders back to Lena, my mate. That's the only thing I know about her so far, she works at Maddies Bakery, and her name is Lena, and she seems to be a straightforward type of girl. She doesn't seem like the type to take anyone's s**t but at the same time, she doesn't like socializing. She gets straight to the point and leaves the first chance she gets. I am curious to know more, but maybe not. I have to reject her, I am no good for her, believe me, I am ruined for her. I can not make her happy, I can not give her a home or any sort of life at all. I live in many places, and I am unstable. I also sleep around a lot. I was not looking for a mate, but I knew there was a possibility of finding one, and if I ever did, I planned to reject her and hope she finds someone else. Most people wait for their mates. I haven't. So, by having s*x with many different women, I have ruined myself for her completely. I'm a dirty piece of s**t. Literally. I'm homeless most of the time. Only a few friends out there help me out and let me stay at their places. If I'm not there, I'm usually out at clubs or getting into trouble or having s*x with women or multiple women or, above all three. I've done jail time many times. Sometimes, I don't remember why I'd even end up in there, I'd wake up with hangovers with black eyes. So, you see? I am not good enough for that gorgeous creature that works at the Bakery. If I'm right. She probably saved herself for her mate, which is me. Goddess dammit. I had to go and f**k up my life. Now I can't have the one thing I didn't know that I probably need more than anything. Goddess knows that I need her, but I am a fool for ruining my own life due to my impatience, stubbornness, and deep down buried deep, my fear of leadership and love. Goddess, please give me the strength to set her free.
