A pair of teal-green eyes met mine. Sparks flooded my entire body.
What the hell?
A growl came out of the guy in front of me,
"Mine." He said, staring intently into my eyes as he tried to push Izzy out of his way, stepping forward.
"I'll leave you two." She looked at me with a smirk. She turned to leave through the glass door, back inside the cafeteria. I turned back around to stare at him. Then I realised Izzy called him Bell and that's a nickname for her cousin. Holy s**t!
"What is your name?" He asked in a deep voice. But I just stared. He had long, black onyx hair that almost went past his face. He had sharp cheek bones and tanned skin. But most of all his eyes. They were a ocean-emerald colour. How is that even possible?
"What's your name?" I countered sneakily, putting my hands behind my back. He snarled softly, revealing the canines I desperately wanted to sink in my skin.
"I asked first." He barred his teeth. I crossed my arms and waited until he groaned in submission.
"Jace." he admitted. "And your my mate." He said with a small grin on his face.
"Now tell me your name." He demanded curtly, using his Alpha aura. Anger suddenly flushed through me so, I stayed silent as I studied his face, his body. I thought mates were supposed to fall in love at the first sight of them. I mean, he was ridiculously attractive! He just stood there, staring at me. I scoffed and turned around to start walking for the glass door. Great, my mate doesn't even want me, I might as well brace myself for rejection. Pain entered my chest, and out of instinct, I pressed my hand against it. I was suddenly pulled back by the wrist, sparks exploding. I turned to see Jace put a hand over his chest,
"I'm not going to reject you." Jace whispered, he must have felt it too. He was towering over me. Why was I so short? A smirk spread onto his face.
"Could have fooled me." I muttered to myself.
"Are you going to tell me your name?" He said slowly. I looked up at him, mischief in his eyes. Oh, it's so on!
"Anna." I said sweetly. Then his face went into confusion.
"Anna? Why do you look familiar?" He said leaning over. I ripped my wrist from his hold. Why am I always being compared to Reese? I pointed do the door and into the cafeteria before I said,
"Go find out for yourself." I walked away from him and flung open the door, nearly ripping it off its hinges. He caught up to me though and was walking beside me. I stopped at the front of the table with him next to me. My eyes went right to Reese while everyone's were on us. Jace looked between us in confusion. Then Reese got up and stalked around the table to us.
"Can I talk to you?" Reese asked Jace in confusion. I’m sure he'll tell him all about it.
"Go ahead." I flailed my arms. I was pissed and I don't know why. He then stalked to the corner and started having a conversation with Reese. I didn't even try to listen in, I couldn't be bothered. I sat back down next to Mike and I could practically feel eyes burning in the back of my head. I glanced around to the corner of the room to see Jace shooting daggers at me, still talking to Reese. Then his attention went towards the entrance to the cafeteria. I followed his gaze to a bunch of she-wolves that sat at a table near the other side. I huffed, shaking my head. Of course, he's slept around, he's the alpha. I stood up to get my bag on the end of the table where I left it. I set my bag on the table while I opened it up. I looked over to the corner to see Jace's gaze go from the she-wolves, then to me. The bastard looked me up and down, slowly. His eyes stopped at the middle of my stomach, at my piercing. What was with people and piercings? He looked over to the group of she-wolves before his eyes went black. Great! He wasn't even looking at me with desire, but those she-wolves. So I decided, to hell with it! I took out a random Candy Cane I found in my bag and snapped it in half. I looked down at Michael with a smirk. He returned it because he knew what I was about to do.
"Hello love." He said stupidly, mocking my accent.
"Hello." I replied sweetly. I turned around to sit in his lap. He laughed as I stuck a Candy Cane in his mouth.
"What do you have next?" He started to ask.
"Math I think. It's going to be so boring-" I tried to reply. But before I could finish I was ripped from his grip. I whirled around to see Jace holding my arm, growling at Michael. My vision went red. I was pissed.
"f*****g prick" I growled, as I pushed both of my hands at his chest. I huffed and shook my head in annoyance. My eyes started to sting as I turned around and grabbed my bag, waving a hand of dismissal. I started to angrily stomp my way to my next class when someone caught up with me. Izzy.
"Hey." She started. "It's okay, Jace is just an idiot." She tried to explain. I looked her in the eyes. That was an understatement.
"He's a dickhead." I almost whispered. She roared out with laughter.
"I know, I grew up with him." Izzy chuckled. "But I think he needs someone like you to show him his place." She smirked at me and I slyly grinned back. We made our way to the classroom, since we had Math next together. We went to the back of the classroom. I sat next to Izzy and made sure to save the window seat for Mike. I couldn't wait to sleep through this class.
Mike wasn't here yet and I was getting worried. What happened to him after lunch? Right as the bell rang, a scent hit me.
"You're kidding." I complained quietly to Izzy. She just gave me a small smile.
"Sorry." She whispered. I groaned and fell back into my chair and right on time, Jace walked through the door. He stopped right in his tracks and I could feel his eyes burning holes into my skull. He then glanced to the empty seat beside me and started walking. I shot out of my chair and turned around.
"This seat is reserved." I spat, almost growling. He just gave me a rugged smirk.
"Michael's not here." He said, slipping past me.
"What do you mean 'he's not here', what did you do?" I asked, frustrated.
"I told him to go home." He said simply. I let myself shoot daggers at him.
"Why! Mike is like my best friend!" I exclaimed, hands in the air. He turned to me before his eyes went pitch black,
"No, he's not." He said and turned to face the front. He thought he could end it there.
"You can't choose my friends. I don't even know you." I scoffed.
He slowly turned to face me. "You're my mate. So I can."
I growled in frustration, wasn't your mate meant to be perfect for you? He was glaring at the front of the room, his jaw set in a hard line. Why did the Moon Goddess stuck him with me? Fuming, I stuck my legs on his chair. It's the least he could do after forcing my new friend to leave. I was also extremely tired. He raised his brows at me questionably, then returned to looking at the front of my room.
Halfway through the boring lesson, I fell asleep. But all I could think about is Jace, with his scent surrounding me. Keelie was going crazy, so happy she found our mate. I was too, but he was acting like I wasn't even there and it was pissing me off.
I hated being ignored or left alone, I couldn't stand it.
I heard the bell ring and I sat right up. I picked up my stuff and left the classroom quickly. I looked over my shoulder to see Jace and Izzy behind me. Great, I thought to myself as I rolled my eyes. I made it to our table and saw Reese and Esme already there. I planted myself down next to Reese with a huff and crossed my arms.
"You look like Kai when he's angry." Reese whispered to me
"I'm not a child." I grumbled back. I started eating the rest of the Candy Canes I randomly found in my bag when Izzy sat next to me, with Jace across from her. I couldn't be anymore annoyed. But that was proven wrong. A few minutes after everyone but Michael sat down, one of those blonde she-wolves stalked over to our table.
"Hey Jace." She said with a smirk. I could wipe that smile off her face, thought Keelie. But I held her back, unfortunately. She started to talk to him and I tried to zone out. I leaned on Reese's back and closed my eyes. After a few minutes I opened my eyes to see the blonde she-wolf sitting next to my mate. I mean Jace, and I looked the other way, feeling restless. I couldn't sit still.
Izzy looked at me with pity. She felt bad for me. Then the she-wolf started playing with his hair, and I couldn't stop the growl that escaped my lips. It was menacing. She turned to look at me with disgust. But I stared her down and she started to squirm under my gaze. She cleared her throat and went back to talking to Jace and I looked at him. He looked pained to be sitting there, but I bet he enjoyed it. So I abruptly stood up, grabbed my bag and started to walk towards the fields, then the woods. I don't care how long it took, or where I was going, but I was going home. I almost made it to the tree line when I was pulled back. It was Reese, and walking out the door behind him, across the field was Esme, Izzy and unfortunately Jace. But I soon forgot about that when I started to yell.
"What!" I whirled around, fuming but my face softened as I saw Reese's concerned face.
"I'm fine. Sorry." I said quickly, like I was reading his mind.
"It's okay Anna, I know what it feels like to have a mate." He tried to cheer me up. But little did he know, I was raging.
"It's not fair! You have a beautiful caring mate like Esme, and I had to get stuck with someone as pigheaded as me!" I practically yelled. By then Izzy and Jace were halfway across the field. I couldn't take it anymore, I was about to snap. My claws were sprouting out of my hands, canines tearing through my gums.
I crushed my eyes closed, running a hand stressfully through my hair. What is wrong with me? Of course Jace wouldn't want me. I'm alone. Even though I'm home, I was all by myself. Reese had Esme, Aaron found Evie, but I was alone. I couldn't sleep at night anymore, I always slept at school.
"I know Denny, you're fine." Reese whispered. He slowly walked up to me and brought me into his arms. I felt safe. "You found us all again. You don't need to worry anymore." He tried to calm me. My claws tried to find it's way into flesh. Then I remembered that this was Reese, not Aaron. I pulled back. I curled my fists, claws still out. I felt the piercing of my own flesh, the release in the claws. Izzy quickly made her way over to me. She took my hands and uncurled them. Claw and nail marks were indented in my flesh. I always did this when I panicked or felt mad.
She held my hands, not caring about the blood.
"I'll meet you in Science after." She whispered after she left. She walked past Jace and onto the field, giving him a glance. Reese followed her across the fields and into the school building. Once they were out of sight, I shrugged my bag off my back and sunk to the ground. I hugged my knees tightly to my chest.
"Is it a dream?" I asked dazedly to no-one in particular. This was all so unreal, impossible that I thought I would wake up back in Kingston, no Rowan, no Evie. Jace stepped over to me and sat beside me, legs outstretched.
"No." He said quietly. I started to shake. I thought that this was some nightmare, and that I would wake up a thousand miles away from home. I felt strong arms wrap around me, sparks exploding everywhere. He pulled me into the side of his chest.
"It's all real." He said again. I tried not to cry, but a single tear fell out of my eye. It was real
"I'm sorry." He whispered into my hair. I have a feeling that Jace was never like this in front of other people. I turned my head into his chest and wrapped my arms under his.
He froze.
My claws were out, threatening to sink into his flesh. He loosened up and pulled me impossibly close.
I held him tight and the side of his face brushed against my head, making me unconsciously leaning into him. After a few minutes I pulled back. I wanted to see his eyes. I found a pair of teal coloured orbs staring at me. I moved closer and squinted. He chucked his head back and chuckled. He was so close I could feel his breath. I ignored it as I stood up and brushed myself off. He did the same as we wondered back onto the fields. Unfortunately, I still had science with Izzy and Jace after my little episode. We made it to the small Science room and say Izzy at the back near a window seat. Great, I was forced to sit next to Jace. I rolled my eyes and sat down. Not even halfway through the lesson, my eyes started to droop and I could feel sleep coming on.
----
The bell rang and I opened my eyes. I don't remember falling asleep. I went to move my head but sparks erupted. No! I sat up to see Jace smirking. I fell asleep on him. Feeling pissed off this myself, I pushed him away from me and scrambled to stand up. He laughed as he nearly fell off his chair from my push.
"I already took a photo, it was cute." Izzy teased.
"No you did not!" I shouted accusingly and she laughed and starting to make her way to Jace's side. These two were impossible.
"I have a meeting, I will be home late." Jace murmured to Izzy as they followed me to the car park.
I saw Reese at his car and found this as my chance to escape.
"I'll send you the photo!" Izzy yelled across the lot. I gave her a vulgar gesture and heard Jace laughing, the sound made me smile. I jumped into the car and waited for Reese to finish talking to a bunch of random guys. They were all from the football team I guessed, since that's what they were talking about. After a few minutes he stepped into the car and started it.
"Finally!" I yelled as I plugged my phone into the aux and started singing. As we pulled into the driveway, Reese complemented on my singing. We stepped out of the car and he gave me a lingering look.
"What?" I asked impatiently.
"There's a surprise inside." He chuckled. I don't believe it would be a good one. Memories of today started to rush through me head and I didn't know what to do.
"Mum!" I yelled as I entered through the front door. I let Reese pass me, laughing and a minute later Evie stalked down the hall.
"What's wrong?" She asked me smiling. I followed her to the dining room and fell onto the couch.
"You have no idea!" I said, exasperatedly chucking my hands in the air. She smirked at me knowingly. Something was off. Then I caught the scent of rain and the forest. I jumped off of the couch and onto my feet.
"What the hell?" I asked her. She just started laughing.
"He's in a meeting with Rowan. He told us all about it." She said sitting on the couch. I groaned and fell onto the couch.
"Was meeting your mate ever so difficult, or was that just me?" I said, facing the ceiling.
"No, not really." She started to laugh at me. Then, little Kai waddled into the room. I got up and picked him up and placed him on my lap. He fell back onto me, playing with some toy car. My phone made a noise, I must have got a message. I picked up my phone to see it was Izzy, sending photos. I quickly shoved my phone face down.
"What was that?" Evie asked.
"Nothing." I replied a little too quickly. She started laughing. Then she pulled out her phone to show me something. Turns out, she took pictures of me and Kai when he fell asleep in my room.
"Awww, send me those." I stated.
"Oh, I will." She replied laughing. I loved that sound. After that, Evie led me and Kai to the kitchen for something to eat. Kai was halfway through eating a banana when we heard the office door click. Kai's head snapped straight towards the door. He started to pull on my shirt.
"Daddy." He said looking at me, pointing to the door. I got up, rolled my eyes so Evie's laughter and made my way to the office. Then around the corner walked Jace. Why did he have to have such great timing?
"Hello." He smirked at me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, holding onto Kai's small hand.
"I had a meeting." He replied.
"Okay, have fun with your she-wolves." I muttered, trying to push past him. He grabbed my arm, stopping me in my tracks as he glared down on me.
"That was your fault." He said frowning.
"How?" I scoffed, rolling my eyes and ripping my arm from his hold. A grin then came onto his face.
"We shouldn't discuss such things in front of little ones." He replied quietly, glancing at Kai. I looked at him, shocked. He chuckled at my reaction.
"See you tomorrow, Anna."He whispered, brushing against my arm before he showed himself out. I made my way to Rowans office to drop off Kai. I walked upstairs to have a shower and wash away the last conversation I just had with Jace, out of my head. After an early dinner, and some teasing about my mate, I walked upstairs to sleep. I was so tired I could just fall to the floor and sleep. I made it to my room and the second i hit the bed, I was out. Tomorrow was going to be so eventful.
