Jake had no idea what to say. Or what to think. He knew Lana wanted him to tell her what to do, but he couldn’t. It was her decision to make, not his.

It didn’t matter what Jake wanted; it mattered what Lana wanted. Jake understood she was hurt that Nate had accepted the job without talking to her first, but she also loved him. If it had been Duke, there was no doubt in Jake’s mind that Lana would have jumped to move wherever he wanted.
