Alyssa fought the tears that threatened. She hated feeling so out of control of her emotions. She’d spent years bottling everything up, and two days in Bereton and she was a bumbling mess every time she turned around.
But dammit, it hurt. First Andie, then Jake.
She knew they were mad. She understood it. But she didn’t have to like it or stand there and take it.
Without a word, Alyssa turned and walked away. She would have happily left right then and there, but she wouldn’t let herself. She wouldn’t show them that they got to her. She’d do exactly what Jake asked her to do.
