Vespian POV:
“We have to get her out of here, now,” Eli growled at me.
“Calm down, if the Alpha and Luna wanted them dead then why would they explain all of this to us?” I tried reasoning with him. In reality, I was as worried as he was. If all of the stories were true, if Werewolves had banded together to eradicate Lycans, then finding out some still existed could put fire in those old fears.
“I don’t understand.” Luna’s sweet voice broke through mine and Eli’s conversation, bringing us back to the present. As my fear and worry raced through my veins I reached out and wrapped my arms around Luna’s small frame and gently pulled her back towards me, I needed her head on my chest so I could breathe in nothing but her sweet fragrance, right now her presence was the only thing keeping me sane, keeping me from letting my fear take me over. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding when she turned towards me with a soft smile and laid her head on my chest, clearly understanding I needed her close.
“If Lycans were stronger, faster, smarter, and possessed great abilities, how were they taken out by those weaker than themselves?” Luna continued softly while I twirled my fingers in the ends of her hair, enjoying her soft scent floating around me.
“Shear numbers my dear. We’re talking hundreds of thousands of werewolves against just a few hundred Lycans and the werewolves that lived among them in the Amethyst City.” Alpha Darius answered.
“The stories are all laid out in these books, no one alive today was alive during that time, so all we have are the stories in books like these.” Luna April added. “Except of course…” She trailed off as she looked up at her husband uncertainly.
“Except of course if a Lycan survived that night.” Her mate finished for her as he squeezed her hand.
“How long ago did this happen?” Orion asked softly, he seemed to be taking in everything well, but I could tell all of this was beginning to get to him, just as it was Celeste and my little Luna.
“Centuries ago.” Alpha Darius said.
“Then how would a Lycan from the attack still be alive today? I mean, they aren’t immortal... are they?” Her words came out in a rush, pulling my eyes from Orion and to Celeste, she seemed flustered, judging from the short time I had known her I guessed that she wasn’t used to not knowing everything about a situation and she was at her wits end with surprises.
“Lycans aren’t immortal per se.” Answered Dr. Elroy, I had almost forgotten she was here without her repeating ‘I see’ Every 5 seconds. “They have great longevity though, the oldest in record was King Jupitar and he lived to be 500 years old before he died in the attack on Amethyst.”
“So, it’s possible someone survived that night?” Luna asked from my chest. Goddess her voice was beautiful, and soft and bewitching, everything about her was amazing, but that voice, it melted my insides and set my heart to racing. “And the line continued until we were born?”
“It’s possible.” Stated Dr. Elroy as she moved to place her hands behind her back, clasping them together as if she was thinking deeply. “Or, and I think this is the more valid option, your father was a son of King Jupiter himself.”
I felt Luna’s breath hitch in surprise that the doctor would suggest such a thing, Orion and Celeste were looking at each other and doing that weird mind thing they did, and I was anxious to know what they were thinking. Glancing at the Alpha and Luna and the way they were staring at each other and not talking, I knew they were mind linking, and the grim expression on their faces had my stomach sinking.
I was about to ask everyone to please voice their opinions and concerns when the phone on the Alpha’s desk rang, he let go of his wife's hand and moved towards his desk, picking up the receiver and bringing it to his ear. Seriously, who has a landline in this day and age, everyone had a cell phone.
“Yes?” Alpha Darius’s voice rang through the phone
“We have a very concerned human woman at the gate of our drive, she seems to be looking for the Slade siblings. I told her she couldn’t enter without permission from you, and she is threatening to call the police Alpha.” The voice on the other end of the phone said anxiously, clearly, my mates’ mother was a force to reckoned with if she made werewolves anxious.
Feeling my mate stiffen in my arms I knew she heard the caller as well, and soon she was jumping off of my lap, and she and her siblings were rushing from the office.
“We are coming down now, let her in. Inform the pack that we have a human on our lands and to use extreme caution.” With that, Alpha Darius hung the phone up and walked towards his office door where his wife met him, and hand in hand they left the room following behind my mate.
Only Dr. Elroy and I remained in the room and she turned to me with a curious look on her face.
“I am surprised you are not following your mate.” Dr. Elroy stated in observation.
“I am as well actually… a part of me wants to rush after her, hold her hand, meet her mother.” I sighed, leaning forward in the chair, after running a hand through my hair in frustration and letting out a frustrated sigh I rested my elbows on my knees and my head in my hands. “I’m nervous,” I said towards the floor.
“I see.” See… there go those words again. “I suppose you are nervous because you are not sure if her mother will accept you into her life? After all, her mother is human and won’t understand. Your wolf and instincts are telling you to mark and mate your mate, to keep her close, probably telling you to move her in with you so she is close at all times. But you know that her mother will never allow her teenage daughter to move in with a boyfriend, much less a boy she just met.”
I let my arms fall as I sat up and looked at the doctor in shock, nodding my head so fast it almost gave me a headache. “Yes! Exactly! What do I do?”
Dr. Elroy laughed and shrugged her shoulders as she sauntered away. “How would I know Alpha? I’ve never been in your shoes..” She trailed off as she got to the office door and opened in, about to walk out, she turned her head towards me and gave me a smile that could only be described as mischievous before winking and saying “Good luck! You’re going to need it!” Her laughing drifted back to me as the door slowly shut behind her.
