Witches and Prophecies

Luna’s POV:   “Excuse me, what?” Celeste's voice seemed to come from far away as I thought about what we had heard.    Apparently, Mr. and Mrs. Mallory believed that we could be from some pack that had been wiped out, if they thought our father was from this pack then that meant that they were responsible for the downfall of our father's family and pack.   “What do you mean by that?” Orion asked as he leaned towards the Mallory’s. “What do you mean wiped out?”   “We mean that as far as we know, they no longer exist.” Answered Mrs. Mallory   “Luna April, we have to address them by their titles, Alpha Darius and Luna April. You’re a wolf now, you have to learn the ways.”  Ellie’s voice filled my mind.   Right, Alpha and Luna.   “They were killed by werewolves. A treaty that was forged between every pack in North America, with the sole purpose of destroying the Amethyst Lunar Pack before the prophecy could be enforced.” Alpha Darius looked like he didn’t want to continue this story, Luna April looked sad. As I turned to look at Vespian I realized he looked pale and shocked.   “Werewolves killed them? Why would they wipe out another pack? Were they evil or something?” Orion spoke quickly, scooting to the edge of his seat.   “What do you mean ‘before the prophecy could be enforced’? What prophecy?” Celeste added, as she too scooted to the edge of the love seat and glared at the Alpha and Luna before her. Celeste wasn’t one to bow down to someone just because they carried a title.   “Watch your tone pup.” Demanded Alpha Darius as he returned Celeste’s glare.   “You watch yours.” Orion’s voice deepened and shook, causing Alpha Darius and Luna April to widen their eyes in surprise. I could tell by watching them that they were having a hard time not submitting to my brother.   “Curiouser and curiouser.” Dr. Elroy whispered to herself as she watched the exchange between my siblings and her Alpha. “Jewel feels the need to submit to this wolf-less pup…” These words were so softly spoken I don’t think she meant to speak them aloud.   Vespian’s chest rumbled as he cleared his throat, most likely hoping to ease the tension in the room. “Anyways… I am curious as well about the prophecy. If it’s the ones from my fathers’ stories it makes no sense.”   “What stories?” I found myself asking before I could catch myself. All of this was getting weird, and honestly, super cliché.    “It was just bedtime stories my father told me, basically there was a great leader named Jupiter and he was the Alpha of the greatest pack the world had ever seen, it was so grand and powerful because it was the pack that the moon goddess herself, Selene, would choose to spend her time on earth because it’s pack members were her direct descendants. They were Lycan, they were faster, more powerful, and most had a special gift or talent they could harness and grow. A witch foretold that the three diamonds in Jupiter’s crown would be stolen and when reunited they would bring an end to all of the wolf kind. Werewolves were afraid of the annihilation of their species and instead banded together and took down the royal family and all Amethyst pack members. King Jupiter's crown was dismantled and the diamonds within were ground to dust and spread into the seas around the world, so the diamonds could never be reunited, and the prophecy could never come true. But it’s just a bunch of children’s stories… right?” Vespian finished his tale with a question he directed towards the now quiet Alpha and Luna.   “That’s basically what happened, though watered down quite a bit due to you being a child when you were told.” Luna April's voice was soft as she spoke, clearly, the worst parts of the story were yet to come.   “I’m so sorry Luna.”  Ellie’s voice poured through my mind with a warm comforting glow.   “Why are you sorry? I don’t understand?”  I got a mental image of her just shaking her head and laying down curled up in the back of my mind. I wasn’t going to like what came next.   Vespian’s POV:   “What do you mean watered down? What can be worse than destroying an entire race because of some witch’s prophecy?” I was getting angry, I mean, I had been told these stories were just stories, fairytales brought on by legends, not facts! Had entire North America really come together to take down one pack?   “Well, the Amethyst pack was in fact Lycans, which is why they turned at a different age. Due to the abilities, they harnessed their bodies required more time to fully mature, 18 was the earliest they could shift.” Luna April explained, moving the old book from Alpha Darius’s lap to her own and opening it. “They were faster, stronger, and more advanced at battle strategy, they were almost unstoppable.”   “This is what kept werewolf packs peacefully in line under their royal rule. Until the prophecy.” Alpha Darius added on, picking up where his Luna left off. “The threat to all of our kind frightened the Alpha’s and an uprising occurred.”   “What do you mean ‘Royal Rule’?” Celeste asked.   “I’m a little more interested in the fact that they are suggesting you are Lycans,” I stated. “Lycans are extinct, they haven’t been seen in.. well, a very lot time. My grandfather has never even seen one.”   Alpha Darius and Luna April exchanged another long look, I was getting angry, I could feel Eli coming to the front, I knew my eyes were changing.    “Lycan?! Our mate could be Lycan?”  I demanded of Eli.   “I don’t know, but I don’t like how this is going. If werewolves really were the reason Lycans became extinct then that does not bode well for our mate or her siblings.” I could feel his anger rising as his worry did.    “What do you mean it doesn’t bode well? Why wouldn’t it?”  Eli wasn’t making much sense, but if he was worried, I knew I should be as well.   “Think about it. They killed all Lycans because of a Prophecy, that kind of fear never dies out. If our mate is a Lycan…”   “Then she and her siblings may be next!”  I finished his sentence, shocked but understanding. Our Little Luna could be in grave danger… and I may have just lead them to the wolf's den myself.
