Vespian’s POV:   “Ummmm…”   My beautiful mate seemed like she wasn’t sure where to start our story, so I figured I would step in and save her.   “So when the rogues attacked I was able to take two down and frighten the last off.” When I saw Alpha Darius nod his head in understanding I continued. “They had tried going after Luna and Orion and Celeste and I couldn’t risk them reaching Luna, so I turned to drag the wolf back and got attacked-“  -- “Wait.” Said Luna April. “Go back. Why were you even in the woods? You know how dangerous the forest can be for humans, why would you take your mate and her family out there in the first place?”   “He didn’t.” Stated Orion.   The Alpha and Luna looked at Orion before exchanging a glance. Seeing this Orion rolled his eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. “He didn’t take us out there, we were out there talking, and he followed us to watch over us, to keep us safe. At least that’s how he explained it.” He shrugged his shoulders and leaned back on the couch as if he was done speaking for now.   “Just to clarify we were in the woods because Luna rushed out of the cafeteria to escape Vespian and we followed her. The forest has always been a place of refuge to us, it calls to us. Luna escaped there so that she could think and clear her mind when she started hearing a voice in her head that made her feel crazy.” Celeste said.   “I mean, you try having a voice shouting in your head while some random stranger from across the cafeteria watches you like a hungry lion seeing its next meal.” Luna's sweet voice huffed from my chest.   “Woah now my little Luna, I am not a cat, it was a wolf staring at you like you were the next meal he wished to devour.” My voice came out more heated than I intended and by the look of shock on Luna’s face and the darkening of her eyes, I could tell my tone had interested her wolf.   “Oh please…” Celeste whined from across the room, I swear I heard her eyes roll.   “No man… not cool, that’s my sister,” Orion growled.   The doctor chuckled softly in front of us while the Alpha and Luna just exchanged a knowing look.   “Okay, okay, let's get back on track here, shall we?” Dr. Elroy said after clearing her throat.   “Yes, of course,” I stated.   “So, what happened in the cafeteria Alpha Vespian?” Dr. Elroy asked.   “I was just standing there when I smelled the most amazing scent, I turned around and locked eyes with Luna, and Eli started shouting ‘mate’ in my head. Before I could talk to her, she turned around and ran from the room.”   “I see.” Dr. Elroy seemed to love those words. “And Luna, dear, what happened for you in the cafeteria?” Her soft smile and caring eyes were now centered on my mate.   “Well…” Luna moved to sit up in my lap so she could talk with Dr. Elroy, I missed the warmth of her head on my chest and put my hand out rubbing small circles on her lower back. “I had been smelling this scent all morning, it smelled amazing, and I wanted to follow it, but I had class. When it was time for lunch I walked into the cafeteria and the scent hit me again, like a ten-ton truck. But then a voice shouted in my head ‘MATE’, and the voice began having a conversation with me. She wanted me to go to him, she said he was our mate, but I had no idea what was going on so when I saw the looks Vespian was giving me it was too much, and I ran.” As her shoulders shrugged, she shifted softly on my lap, the movement caused Eli to perk up and he began pushing images of my mate and me in heated embraces.   “Cool it down Eli! The last thing I need is to be turned on in a situation like this. Besides, she has not even shifted yet, so by werewolf law she hasn’t come of age.”  I growled at him in my mind, last thing I needed while trying to figure out what was going on with my mate was a horny wolf on the loose in my head.   “Fine.” He huffed before retreating and sitting back to listen to us discuss his mate.   “You had never heard a voice in your head before today? Is that correct?” Dr. Elroy asked Luna.   “No ma’am, I hadn’t.” Luna shook her head no as she answered and then looked at Orion and Celeste before continuing. “How about either of you?”   “Not me.” Answered Orion with a shrug.   “Me either.” Added Celeste.   “I see.” There were those words again, they could be the good doctor's catchphrase. “Have any of you ever shown abilities different from other human kids?”   “Yeah, we can run faster and are stronger than a lot of the kids at school, except of course those I now suspect are werewolves,” Orion said.   “True, we also have amazing hearing and can see in the dark and pretty great distances, our pediatrician was always shocked.” Celeste continued.   The Luna and Alpha gave each other a look as the doctor nodded her head and moved to stand instead of kneeling in front of us. “I see,” she said. “What about healing? Do any of you ever get sick? If you are injured how fast do you heal?”   “We rarely get sick, but our injuries seem to take time to heal, just like our schoolmates.” Luna answered softly, “Ellie says that we don’t have wolf healing yet, but that we will after our 18th birthday.”   My wolves’ ears perked up at this. Typically wolf pups have advanced healing but not their wolf healing till their wolf emerges, so, Ellie saying that the Slade Triplets would have wolf healing after their birthday implied they would be able to shift as soon as this Saturday. Her meeting her mate must have brought Ellie forward early.   “18th, it’s odd that she is saying you will get your wolves on your 18th birthday, wolves typically surface and turn by their 15th birthday, it’s curious that you haven’t if you are wolves.” Dr. Elroy sounded puzzled but intrigued at the same time.   “I suspected that it's because they are mixed blood, half-human, half-wolf,” I suggested, glancing at Luna April and Alpha Darius I suspected they did not think the same. “What is it? Do you know something that could help us figure this out?” My voice came out rough, demanding, but the looks on their face made my blood run cold, they looked as if they knew something, and it wasn’t good.   “Well…” Started Alpha Darius as he dragged his hand over his short beard and glanced at his Luna as if he wasn’t sure where to begin.    “We don’t believe their lack of wolf at 18 is because of their human side so much as by their wolf ancestry.” Luna April added softly, she stood gracefully, brushing her hands down her thighs nervously before making her way over to the bookcases that lined the office walls, her hands skimmed the older, ancient-looking tomes, before settling on one with a weathered black leather cover with silver scribbled writing on it. “I mean, the chances are slim that this is why… but there are stories of a pack that doesn’t get their wolf until their 18th birthday.” Walking back towards the love seat her mate was still seated on, Luna April placed the book delicately on her Alphas lap before perching on the seat beside him once more.    “I’ve never heard of such a pack.” This had to be a joke, as future Alpha I was trained on all packs in the world, I would have remembered one with such an odd distinction.   “You wouldn’t have heard of it unless you studied the Amethyst Lunar Pack.” Alpha Darius stated somberly.   “You’re joking,” I stated with a deep laugh. Watching their faces closely I realized they were serious; this sent another chill down my spine. The pack was a myth, the direct descendants of the Moon Goddess herself, basically royalty to werewolves. Though the stories, which was all they were, stories, nighttime fairy tales for young pups, said that they weren’t werewolves at all, Lycans, with extraordinary powers.   “You aren’t joking? You seriously think those stories are true?!” I knew my mouth was hanging open, but this was… unbelievable.   “They are only stories to you because you weren’t raised in a time when they were real.” Stated Alpha Darius, taking his Luna’s hand in his he took a deep breath before continuing. “They were wiped out by those who feared their power and the prophecies that surround them.”   “By who?” Whispered Luna softly. I almost forgot she and her siblings were here.   Thinking back on the stories my father had told me as a child I paled as I realized what Alpha Darius was about to say. I watched as he squared his shoulders and looked my mate in the eye before answering:   “Us.”
