What a Mystery

Vespian POV:   The packhouse loomed up in front of us as we exited the forest surrounding the grounds of the packhouse, it was smaller than my own, being three stories tall, but they didn’t house as many pack members as we did, it also had a mountain cabin kind of vibe that shouted elegance, which was kind of funny seeing as how we were in a forest in Florida and nowhere near the mountains. The packhouse was painted a deep blue color with white shudders and a white front door.   I wasn’t sure what to do with all of the information my mate and her family had given me. Three werewolves, living as rouges, right under the nose of the local pack, friends with them even. On top of that, none of them had a wolf before today and only one had heard her wolf only after meeting her mate. Plus, they were from Alpha blood. The story was intriguing to say the least, and exceedingly confusing.   As we walked towards the Blood Moon Packhouse I looked over and noticed Orion shaking his head in confusion. Clearly he’d only ever been to the Alpha’s house and not the packhouse. Made sense, they wouldn’t invite a human to a house full of werewolves, the pack wouldn’t always be able to hold their tongue in one of the few places they were able to be themselves.   “Zander never brought me here. He always brought me to a smaller house closer to town.” Running his hands through his hair, Orion was trying his best to piece everything that was going on together, he was doing well considering he only learned he may be a different species an hour ago.   “Makes sense, a packhouse is one of those places that we can be ourselves, we don’t have to hide our true nature because humans don’t go there.” Just as I finished my sentence the front door burst open and I saw Alpha Darius and Luna April stepping out onto the front porch and boy did they not look happy.   “Alp- “ Alpha Darius halted mid-word and cleared his throat before starting again. “Vespian, why are you home from school early and why are the Slade’s skipping school with you to come here?”   I knew he could care less if I was skipping school, my grades were highest in my class in my old school, and besides, I was not his kid. He was more curious as to why I would dare to bring humans to his packhouse. At 6’2 he was the same height as me, he had curly reddish-brown hair and green eyes, that right now looked like they could spit fire, his square jaw was covered in a short red beard. Luna April stood beside him, at 5’8 she was standard female wolf size, tall and willowy, soft golden curls fell across her shoulders and down her back and deep brown eyes flickered quickly between myself and each of the Slade Triplets, landing and staying on a very quiet Luna in my arms. She placed a calming hand on her husband's arm and moved to meet us on the lawn before the porch.   “What’s wrong with the girl? Why can’t she walk on her own?” Luna April’s voice along with the crease between her eyes told me she was concerned.    “And why is Orion not wearing any pants?” Alpha Darius added.   “I-I-…Umm, Vespian was naked… wait.. umm.” Orion’s cheeks blushed scarlet for a moment as he stuttered, unsure what to say.   “Luna is tired.” I broke into Orion’s mumblings, emphasizing Luna’s name. Luna April knew Luna’s name, she was just not using it on purpose, and the implication was insulting to me, to say the least. “Orion loaned me his pants. Rogues attacked us right outside the school, along the forest line.”   “Rogues?!” Alpha Darius exclaimed in surprise. Though at the fact that rogues were in his territory or at me mentioning it in front of the humans I wasn’t sure.    “What are you talking about dear?” Luna April added nervously, eyeing the Slade triplets warily.   “Seriously? I wouldn’t bring them here unless they knew, which they do.” The Alpha and Luna looked at each other and then at me questioningly. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes with exasperation. “About werewolves, obviously.”   “What did you tell them? I don’t know how you and your father run things in Tennessee, but this isn’t how we run things here. You can’t just go around telling our secrets to humans!” Oh Yeah, Alpha Darius was pissed, I was going to get a scolding soon if things weren’t explained in full.   “How much do they know dear?” Luna April stage whispered as she squeezed her husband's arm to encourage him to calm down.   “We know that you are werewolves, Mr. Mallory is an alpha and you are his Luna, we know Zander is next in line to inherit and that rogues are wolves who don’t belong to a pack,” Celeste stated, looking in between them as she raised one of her perfect eyebrows.   “Oh and rogues often choose to join the military and the FBI!” Orion threw in from my left side, I sighed and shook my head, of course, that’s the part he remembered.   “And we think we may be wolves as well.” My sweet little Luna’s voice was like music to my ears.   Alpha Darius and Luna April exchanged a look and then both let out a pent-up breath before gesturing for us to enter the house. “Well,” Alpha Darius said, “now that you know, you mine as well come inside and rest comfortably while the three of you explain exactly what happened today and what in the name of the goddess is going on.”   Luna’s POV:   After getting to the mansion and being confronted by the Mallory’s I had a feeling that Vespian was in trouble for answering our questions, not that he seemed to care, while most of the people I knew listened and obeyed Mr. Mallory’s every word, Vespian couldn’t seem to care less what he thought. It must come with the alpha blood.   We entered the house and walked through quickly, with my head tucked in Vespian’s neck I didn’t see much of our surroundings until I heard a door click open and then shut behind us, when I looked out I noticed we were in an office, a very large and spacious one. A large oak desk sat in the middle of the room with floor-to-ceiling windows behind it, covered in dark forest green drapes, and two oak chairs with the same forest green fabric on the seats in front of it. There was a fireplace on one wall but it was one of those electric ones that you used a remote to start and stop, made sense since we were in Florida and a fireplace was seldomly needed. Bookcases lined another wall with rows and rows filled with books, some looked brand new and some looked like they were centuries old, beside the book case’s were two love seats and a small bar filled with different colored liquors in glass decanters. Beautiful paintings were hung on the walls, depicting battles between wolves and wolves versus human armies.   As everyone filed into the room we took seats. I expected Vespian to put me on a seat or even on my feet but instead he choose one of the oak chairs, he hooked his foot in the leg and swung the chair around to face the love seats and gracefully lowered himself into it, situating me on his lap comfortably. Mr. and Mrs. Mallory, or rather, Alpha Darius and Luna April gave each other a meaningly glance after watching Vespian’s actions and moved to sit on one of the love seats together, leaving Orion and Celeste to sit on the other. We sat there for a minute in uncomfortable silence, none of us were really sure how to start the conversation. Right when I was on the verge of saying anything to break the tension the door opened and a middle-aged woman who looked familiar peeked her head into the office.   “I was called?” Her voice was deep and strong, she was someone of value, you could see it by the set in her shoulders and the strong lilt to her voice. She was also beautiful, with black hair braided night against her scalp then wrapped in a bun at the back of her head, she had striking green eyes that were framed by remarkable lashes that rivaled Vespian’s in beauty, her skin was mocha-colored, dark and luxurious like freshly brewed coffee.   “Yes, Dr. Elroy, perfect timing as always. Alpha Vespian here has been in a confrontation with rogues, we’d appreciate it if you could look him and his friends here over.” Luna April said with a soft smile.   Dr. Elroy walked into the room and clicked the door behind her, smiling at me as I peeked out from Vespian’s chest. As she walked further into the room her heels clicked on the wood floor, she was dressed beautifully, much better than any doctor I had ever seen. She had on a royal blue blouse that was sleeveless and flowed softly around her model-like figure, a pair of fawn-colored pants hugged her athletic legs to perfection. When she approached the chair we were sitting in, she bent in front of us and gave me a dazzling smile, her teeth were snowy white against her dark lips.   “Hi there! I’m Dr. Elroy, I’m not sure if you remember but I have taken care of you before at the local ER, when you needed stitches, remember Luna?” Her voice was soft and warm I couldn’t help but smile at her.   “Yes ma’am, I remember, I thought you looked familiar when you came in,” I replied.   She glanced at the Alpha and Luna quizzically, “How free with my speech may I be?”   “Completely, they know everything. Or at least most of it. Enough that you may speak freely.” Alpha Darius looked exasperated, I could tell he was getting frustrated with not knowing the full story.   Looking back at me and Vespian, Dr. Elroy behind checking his eyes and with her finger. “Did they get you anywhere Alpha Vespian? Do you have any wounds I need to clean and dress while they heal?”   “No, Dr. Elroy, I am fine,” Vespian answered her hesitantly. “It’s actually Luna here I’d like to be checked out.” “I see, did they bite you, dear? If so I may need to take you down to the clinic and clean the wound and dress it, you may need stitches.” Dr. Elroy now looked worried, as if me having a bite from a rogue would be absolutely terrible. Though I guess it would be for a human who doesn't heal well.   “You aren’t human, remember? We are not human. You may not have super healing yet, but you will once you have your 18th birthday.”  Ellie’s voice filled my mind, she sounded tired, but she had enough energy to sound irritated at my forgetting we were not human.   “Umm, no, Dr. Elroy, I’m fine. They didn’t get anywhere near us thanks to Vespian and Eli.” I snuggled a little further into Vespian’s chest, truly thankful he had been there.   “Uh-huh, then why is her worried for you?” Dr. Elroy asked softly.   “I was injured by the rogues. One tore my back open.” Vespian’s sounded confused and worried, “But, Luna somehow healed it, it wore her out though, she’s been exhausted ever since.” The last sentence was rushed, he didn’t want anyone focusing on the fact that I could heal.   “What?” Luna April said with her mouth open.   “Excuse me?” Said Alpha Darius, his face matched his wife's.   “I see.” Dr. Elroy didn’t so much as blink, I was sure she heard such things every day. I could tell that we were going to have to explain everything, immediately.
