Vespian POV:
I didn’t have time for this, but if I pissed off this packs leaders I not only risked losing their respect I could risk losing their alliance with my pack, and while Jade River would never be able to stand up to Golden Crescent, stories spread fast and respect could be lost quickly. I took a deep breath, relaxing my nerves and my frantic heart beat and pushed Eli to the back of my mind, his agitation was not helping the situation. Plastering a friendly smile on my face I shook the mans hand.
“Not a prince, just a future Alpha.” I replied. For the thousandth time I wish the joke had never taken hold. My pack may be the biggest and the strongest on this continent but it didn’t officially make my family royalty. That title belonged to the Lycans. The Lycans who had been nearly eradicated by my own kind. My own mate was almost never born.
“You say tomato I say potato.” The odd man said with a chuckle as he shrugged his shoulders.
“And you are…?” I asked pointedly. ‘Keep calm Vesp’ I had to tell my self over and over, but come on? Who doesn’t introduce them selves directly after a handshake?
“Oh yes! I am Beta Lincoln, of Jade River course.” With that Lincoln swept down into a bow that would put Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast to shame. Jesus, another Disney princess movie reference, my mother apparently raised me as obsessed with movies as she herself was.
“That really isn’t necessary, not a real prince.” I chuckled as he stood back up, a giant friendly grin on his face. Looking behind him at the number of wolves in the clearing I began to wonder how they not only got here so fast, but why so many had here for one intruder. “So what’s with the entourage? Always bring so many warriors for one lone Wolf?”
Lincoln glanced back behind him at his warriors still standing at attention, seeming to watch the woods around us. “Oh, all of this isn’t did you. We’ve had an….” Lincoln voice trailed off as he seemed to contemplate what word to use. “An intruder of a sorts, coming through our territory.” As he ended the sentence I saw his eyes harden and the corners of his lips turn down. “We’ve upped our boarder patrol to try and capture it, but as of yet we have had no luck.”
“An intruder? Is it a rogue?” Could it be Luna? I had followed her scent here. No, that didn’t make since, until today she had no idea what she was, and she had no wolf before this morning, there was no way she’d been able to avoid trained warriors without being captured.
“No.” He paused before sighing and raising his hands on confusion. “Honestly, we have no idea. This thing has no scent, makes no sound, and besides a single instance where Jeremy saw it scaling a tree we have not seen it.”
“Then how do you know there’s something even out there?” I questioned, intrigued by the mystery.
“Do you not feel the eyes?” Lincoln whispered as he stepped closer to me. “Even know I and my warriors can feel them. Someone is watching us.”
“I thought you just had woods that hadn’t show them selves yet in the forest watching me.” I had felt like I was being watched, but if he didn’t have warriors keeping an eye on me from the forest, then it had to be this intruder.
“No, once we realized who you were I sent any warriors not directly behind me back to their rounds. He’s out there, watching and waiting.” Lincoln added as he looked around the woods behind me.
The more he spoke the crazier he sounded. And I needed to find where Luna’s sent was coming from.
“Well, this little talk has been interesting, I’ll inform my father of your issues with this intruder, perhaps he can send a witch to help? But I really should be going if I can have that permission to cross your lands now?”
“Oh yes, of course. Anytime you would like Alpha Vespian, now that my warriors have your scent they will not bother you again.” Lincoln now was his smily and pleasant self again, all hint of agitation from the intruder gone.
“Thank you, before I leave for home I’ll come by and introduce my self to your Alpha, I should better acquaint my self with the Alphas in the area for when I do ascend in Golden Crescent. Have a pleasant afternoon.” I gave him and his warriors a shirt wave as I went to love back behind the tree I had changed behind before.
“Oh, by the way, Blood Moon’s Beta contacted us a few moments ago to inform you that your ‘little mate’ was walking down the highway alone? He said he was staying with her until you told him what you wanted him to do.” Lincolns brown eyes held questions but also laughter.
“What? When? Why are you just now telling me?” I demanded as I turned back towards him and advanced quickly, my fingers curled into fists at my side as I fought internally with Eli, trying to calm him even as I attempted to calm my self. I had to get used to the emotional roller coaster a mate apparently brought into your life before I ripped the head off of the wrong person.
Lincoln lifted his hands in surrender and bowed his head in respect, while his warriors behind him jumped to attention and glared at me with glowing eyes. “We were just informed when we told them you were here, I promise you the info just came to us. I would never attempt to hold such important information from you Alpha Vespian.” His voice sounded sincere, but I was not convinced if I could fully trust him.
“I’ll be going. Good luck with your intruder.” I said as I turned and rushed behind the tree, stripping my clothes and tying them to my ankle as fast as werewolf speed would allow.
After I changed back to Eli’s form I heard Lincoln’s voice call from behind me: “Congratulations on finding your mate Prince Vespian, I look forward to meeting the new Princess very soon!”
With that I was off at top speed, rushing back towards town and my new mate who apparently didn’t realize how truly special she was and how dangerous it was to be going anywhere alone. The mystery of why her scent had lead me into Jade River was pushed to the back of my mind, a question to be answered another day.
(((( I am working on a Luna’s POV now and hope to have it up in a few hours! Thank you all so much for reading! The comments I have gotten the last few days have made me want to try and up chapter output
