Chapter 18

RAIDON After an hour of talking about movies, books, and random things, I took Khi home. I was slightly excited to know where she lived. We drove into a subdivision where a lot of houses were. "Wow. This is a big neighborhood." I complimented. "Why do you say that? Don't you live in a similar neighborhood?" She asked and I chuckled. "It's... well... a little different. We don't have much neighbors and most houses are far from each other." I simply said, not stating that I lived in a neighborhood where most people are wealthy. I can't let her know about my family status. She might not talk to me casually if I did. I took a turn and stopped in front of a medium sized house that was cream in color and had a lot of plants outside. I sighed and looked at her. "This you?" I asked and she laughed. "That's a house. That's not me." She teased and took off her seatbelt. I chuckled, "Alright, Miss smarty pants." "Thanks for today, Raidon. I enjoyed it." She said, smiling brightly at me. "Anytime for my dear friend." I winked at her and she just giggled. "You're so crazy. Thanks again. You better go now. It's getting dark." She said and hopped out of my car. When she shut the door, I rolled down the window of the passenger seat and decided to tease her a bit. "What? No goodnight kiss?" I pouted and she just rolled her eyes at me. "Very funny, Raidon. Drive safe." She bid and waved at me. I winked at her one last time and drove off. I could see her still watching me from the rear view mirror and when I got a bit farther away, she entered her home. It was a surprise to me when she actually waited for me to drive off before entering her home because I was so used to Natasha rushing to her house the moment that I drop her off. I guess there's still a first time for everything. °°°°°°°°°° I went home immediately and when I entered, I was surprised with the smell of something delicious. I took off my jacket and threw it on the stool by the counter. I saw my mom was busy in front of the stove that she didn't notice me enter. I slowly crept up behind her. "That smells amazing, Mom." I said suddenly and she almost hit me with the burning tongs as she screamed in surprise. Luckily, I dodged before she could even reach me. "Goodness gracious. Raidon! Don't startle me like that! I almost hit you with the tongs." Mom said, holding her chest with her free hand. I laughed, "Sorry. You just looked so serious while cooking." Mom sighed and continued stirring the creamy pasta, "So? How was the movie?" "It was good. I mean, it wasn't that scary, but did was a good thrill." I said, grabbing a banana from the counter. I peeled the banana and threw the skin in the trash and took a bite of the fruit. I hummed in delight and mom nodded. "Who were you with?" She asked. "Just some friends from my usual coffee shop. They're really nice." I said while chewing on my banana. There was silence between us and I could sense that she wanted to tell me something so I waited. Mom shifted in her spot and I decided to speak first. "So... what's on your mind right now, Mom?" I asked, finishing my banana. She sighed deeply, turning the stove into low heat before looking at me. She looked so serious. "Natasha called me and asked about you. I told her you were out with some friends." She began. I knew there was more to it so I leaned back on the counter and crossed my arms over my chest. "And? What did she really need?" I asked, serious and cold. "She was asking me if she could talk to you, but... you were out so I told her that you'll call once you get back." Mom said, wiping her hands on her apron. I looked away and sighed, "We talked about this, Mom. I don't want to speak to her anymore. I'm tired of understanding her and I've given her so many chances. I've had enough." "I know, dear. I know. But... for the sake of your peace, at least hear her out for one last time, alright?" My mom cupped my cheek and patted it. I looked at her and with a deep thought, I sighed. "Fine. Just one last time and that's it." I said and my mom nodded with a smile. °°°°°°°°°° After dinner, I went to my room and dialed Natasha's number. I just finished my shower and was drying my hair while waiting for her to pick up. I've already blocked her number. Unblocking it was so stupid. When she answered, I heard rustling from the other line before I heard Natasha's voice. "Raidon! Thank goodness! I thought you'd never call me back." If only my mom didn't beg me to, I wouldn't call you. I sighed, "Mom told me. So? What is it that you wanted to talk about?" "Well, I wanted to ask you for a favor. I... I want you to be my escort on an event I'm invited to." I scoffed and threw my towel on the couch. "What? Why would I do that? We've broken up, remember?" I said coldly, scowling at the thought of that night. "Please? I really have no one to take as my date. I've already said that I'll bring someone." "Why don't you ask your damn producer about it? I thought you two were close?" I hissed, annoyed at the reason of her call. "I can't. He has a contract signing that day and I'm in desperate need of a date. Please?" "Why are you asking me, Natasha? I'm pretty sure there are a lot of men out there wanting to be your date." I reasoned, trying to be nice even if I wanted to just hang up on her. "It's you that I want and it'll only be just for one night, Raidon. Sweetheart, please?" She begged and I growled at the nickname. Past me would've said yes in a heartbeat, but now? I don't even want to think about spending the entire evening with her just for her to ignore me and leave me hanging in a corner. "No. I refuse. If that's all, then I'll hang up. Goodnight, Natasha." I bid and ended the call without waiting for her reply. I was already pissed when she asked me for a favor. She didn't even deny the thing about her producer and it still pissed me off. I would not let myself be stepped on like that again. I set my phone on my bed and began a few of my skincare routine. Night cream and moisturizer were the only things I use. I did not know why, but I began doing this a few days after I met Khi. I was busy doing my skincare when my phone chimed. My eyebrows knitted in annoyance, thinking that it might be Natasha. I got up and grabbed my phone, checking who texted me. Khi: Found some new horror movies. Want to watch them sometime? Khi sent an attachment. My eyes lit up when I saw Khi's message. I smiled and replied immediately, fingers stoll sticky from the moisturizer. Me: Sure! Let's watch it in my apartment when we're both free! :> Khi: Cool. I'm free during weekends so... just tell me when. Me: Yes, ma'am. :> I hit the send button and smiled to myself. I suddenly looked at the mirror and I was surprised how bright my face looked. Shit. Is this how I look like when I'm talking to her? f**k. I look like an i***t.
