Chapter 5

Ava

I woke up still tired from all the activity from last night. I am slut! I totally seduced him. Now what would he think of me. Hopefully he takes it as one more of his one night stands. I don't want to talk about it, just move on. I'm his beta and my judgement cannot be clouded because of s****l attraction. It can't happen and it won't happen again.

After a good shower I put some black skinny jeans and a shirt and when downstairs. Tobias was the first to see me.

- Hey sleepyhead. You look tired today!

- I bet she had a long night with Carter - Mila says walking towards us. Luke's back stiffened but he didn't say anything.

- I feel fine Tobias. It was just a long night. - I replied totally ignoring Mila's comment.

Of course something else has to happen so my morning can get better. Please note my sarcasm.

Gale comes walking from the kitchen and joins the conversation - You know Ava if you were already mated the heat wouldn't be so hard on you. Especially if you choose someone from your pack. -

I rolled my eyes. I can't take it anymore as I am about to walk away Luke interrupts the conversation.

- Enough!- He said a little too loud. Everyone looked at him a little surprised. It was strange for him to have such attitude when at the pack house. - Ava, I need to speak with you for a moment. - He said.

- I was just about to grab something to eat. - I reply, trying to avoid going with him.

- Grab something to go. We need to visit Point Black pack this morning and you are riding with me. As my beta of course. -

I understood he was talking business and reprimanded myself from not agreeing immediately. I am the one that wanted to keep things normal and here I was acting all weird. -

- I will see you outside in 10 minutes- He said while walking away.

- The big bad wolf is in a bad mood today - Tobias added. Making sure he whispered so Luke couldn't hear him.

I walked towards the kitchen to grab some breakfast, a sandwich, some bacon, fruits and some water and juice to go and headed back outside. Luke was already waiting for me next to the car.

-I will drive while you finish your food- Luke said while opening the black SUV door. Another truck was behind us and I could see Tobias getting in on the one behind us. It was weird, he was always driving with us so I could concentrate on keeping an eye on the road.

- Thanks, I will finish quick. - I said to Luke while getting in the truck. He hardly ever drove if he was with us.

- Take your time. - He replied back.

I concentrated in my food trying to avoid any small talk right now. I needed a minute to look at him without remembering everything we did last night.

The pack we are visiting was 2 hours away. Apparently they have had intruders over the past two weeks and were now worry about a takeover. Small packs like them were constantly targeted, if someone challenges the Alpha or kills the hierarchy of a pack, however wins could take over. They swore allegiance to us years ago, not that I think we needed them, they weren't closed to us and their numbers were low but it was a decision Luke's dad, Alpha Joe, took and we had to keep our word and protect them.

I could see Luke's mouth open and close like if he was trying to say something so I spoke first to avoid any embarrassment.

- Luke, I wanted to apologize for my behavior yesterday. Don't think I don't remember what happened and how it happened.- I got it out of my chest. I let go the breath I didn't know I was holding.

He looked at me raising his eyebrow. He was taking this the wrong away. I roll my eyes.

- Well I would be offended if you didn't remember Ava. - He looked back to the road. Seriously, that's what he is thinking, how memorable it was. Men!

- That's not what I am referring to. Of course I remember...how could I forget -He looks back at me, I'm blushing, I can feel my cheeks burning - what I mean is, I remember how I pushed your limits. - I finally said.

- Ava, I should have been stronger. I am the Alpha, you were a female in heat. Whoever listens to this will believe that I took advantage of you and I kind of did.- He whispered the last part.

- No you didn't. Luke, this was not your fault. It was just s*x, everyone has s*x, you had plenty of one night stand. s*x is normal. Normal people have s*x. - I realized how I was just repeating myself. Was I trying to convince him or myself?

- I don't believe it's that simple Ava. I doubt you wanted me to be your first and please don't compare yourself with one night stand woman. I would never consider you that.

- Someone had to be the first, at least it was you and not a random person, right? - I asked him and myself. I wasn't sure about that. A stranger wasn't my Alpha, I think it would have been easier to manage.

- Right. If you say so. So what's next for us? - He asks me.

What is he asking me? I looked at him, now I feel nervous while looking at my Alpha, the man I am supposed to protect. I need to put this behind me.

- You are going to keep dating Mila and being my Alpha and I will be your Beta and friend as usual. Nothing is going to change, I see you exactly as before- I didn't sound very convincing but it would have to do. - We are friends and that's what we will always be, nothing more.

He only nodded. We didn't speak another word until we arrived at the pack we were visiting.

- We are here - He announce while passing the borders of the pack. I know they were expecting us because nobody stopped us.

I was on high alert. Looking at my surroundings for any potential thread. I will protect Luke with my life, now more than ever. My feelings won't cloud my judgment.

The visit at the other pack took longer than expected. We discussed new plans to protect their borders, we helped them create new trainings and strategies. After 6 hours they were exhausted and so were we. We ate some lunch with the pack members and decided to head back to our pack before night time.
