Chapter 3 : A Humane Distraction

818 Words
Hailey Adams’s had done her makeup for the fifth time tonight. Her flat mates had a party to attend and they had finally invited her to go with. Excited, the main thing she wanted to do was mingle and find a nice man to get to know. “Are you done yet?” she heard Evelyne ask. “Almost!!” Hailey yelled as she forced herself up from the chair feeling comfortable with how she looked. Now staring at the dress in the corner she could feel a bunch of eyes on her. The back was low and the front plunged to show a nice ‘v’ shape. Her favorite part was the blue and silver sequins on the dress as they were bunched up at the bottom making the dress sparkle. Popping the fabric over her head she made sure to smooth the dress out as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. Perfect. Opening the door Evelyne smiled at her in approval as they looped arms. “Let’s see what kind of fun we can have tonight,” she said as she playfully shoved her. Bobbing her head, Hailey couldn’t help the excitement causing her heart to race. As soon as Hailey and her friend opened the door the sound of provocative music vibrated loudly in her ears. Feeling Evelyne’s hand leave her she knew it was time to go mingle with some people. Looking over at the makeshift bar, she made her way over to grab a drink. Maybe the liquor would give her some confidence to talk to some guys. Just the thought made heat go straight to her thighs. Shaking her head, she dispelled the naughty thoughts as the bartender gave her a small smile. “What would you like?” He asked as she stared at the bottles behind him. “A beer would be fine,” Hailey decided and gave him a smile. “A bottle.” Soon enough the man handed her one uncorked as she forced the bitter solution into her mouth. Liquid courage. Dancing with a drink in her hand, Hailey couldn’t help but notice couples against walls as they seemed very intimate with each other. A few of their eyes seemed to glow as Hailey hoped it was just the light reflecting in their eyes. The place was starting to make her uneasy as she decided to go look for Evelyne. Hailey was ready to go home and made herself a goal. If she didn’t find her friend in 20 minutes she would go home alone. She was sure she was enjoying herself but at the same time as she looked around there was no sign of her. Just where could she be? Sighing in defeat, Hailey shoved her way through the crowd as she heard inaudible growls and hisses as she tried to banish the noises from her head. Shifters would never integrate with humans, would they? Ignoring the sinking feeling in her chest, she walked toward the nearest taxi she could find. About a block down her luck seemed to worsen as there wasn’t one in sight. The walk was tiring as she finally hit the doorstep of her flat. As soon as Hailey when to put her key to the door she heard an argument inside. It sounded like Evelyne was already home. Opening the door, she found her friend and a man with glowing eyes stared her down. “Go,” Evelyne mouthed and Hailey realized she needed to go. The man was a shifter and he definitely didn’t look friendly. Running right out the door Hailey slammed right into a mans chest and heard him chuckle. “I thought humans knew better than to runaway,” the man said as his hands wrapped around Hailey’s waist. Looking up at the mans eyes she could tell the male had things in store for her if she didn’t find a way out of it. “What do you want?” Hailey muttered quietly only for the mans grin to go wider. “Well you and I will be leaving so my friend can make yours his,” he answered only to pull her harder towards his vehicle. “And you will be coming with me to meet some others similar to my kind. There’s no way you can stay with your humankind now. The choosing will definitely be interesting with a few humans there. “ Before Hailey could mouth her retort the man stuffed a gag in her mouth as she began to inhale the substance feeling her body feel heavy. Soon enough her eyes started to shut as she tried to thing of a way out of her situation. Maybe one of the other shifters would help her out.
