Chapter 2 : Expanding The Family

Alarkin felt slightly upset as he left one of his best men in front of his stoop. But the truth was that he needed to get to an emergency birth that was called in and he was one of the few that could help. He had just recently had a group of his men relocate to area they now wanted to call home in Boston Massachusetts. They were originally in Ohio but due to some growing shifter concerns most of them moved away. The dragon clans were expanding there and beginning to take over the territory. Those were the main kind of shifters he wanted to avoid pissing off. Once he was at the foot of the driveway Doctor Brown was waiting impatiently as he tapped the ground with his foot. The man quirked an eyebrow at him. “Just in time. This woman just went into labor a while ago, “ he explained. Following him in, he could heard the woman scream as he walked into the room. Her mate had his nose cinched up and had sweat at his brow. ‘Time to see what’s going on,’ his demon piped up. Placing his hand on the woman’s abdomen he felt two energies at work. Did the woman know she was having twins? It was quite an uncommon phenomenon among his kind, but not unheard of. One of the babies was semi shifted in the womb and that was going to be a problem if he wasn’t here. The woman would definitely lose her life in childbirth. Gulping down his fear he sent soothing energy to the baby that had shifted. Using his alpha position he made his voice low and authoritative to the baby. “ I need you to make your paws into hands baby,” he said, feeling the child kick at him. The paw imprint was enough for Alarkin to become more alert. “Now.” Then soon enough the paw became a foot again. Soon the belly started to contract and Alarkin knew he had done his part. He nodded off to Dr Brown as he left the room for a moment. The woman’s cries soon filled the room again as well as a baby’s cry. ‘Coffee,’ Alarkin’s demon demanded as he rubbed his head. The idea of caffeine didn’t sound bad as he made his way to the kitchen. Shortly after, Dr Brown was out there with him . “Delivery was a success. One girl and a boy,” the doctor commented, smiling. Alarkin couldn’t help but sip his coffee slowly. “Got something that came for you.” Staring the envelope in hand, Alarkin recognized the emblem at hand. The west coast members of his group had sent a letter and he was sure it was for a meeting of sorts. Opening it up, the date was set for tomorrow at a meeting point nearby. He was sure it was important for him to hear as he let out a sigh. It definitely looked like he’d be making his warriors wait as he figured out what was happening with the other demon shifters. The churning in his gut warned him of the issues that could concern him as well. “Yeah I’ll definitely have to get going,” Alarkin said as he threw his cup in the garbage. “Emergency meeting. I wonder what it’s for.” Seeing Dr Browns face freeze up he knew he didn’t have much of an idea. “ I hope it doesn’t involve something serious,” he said. “I’ll let you know,” Alarkin said as he pulled his keys out. He knew he needed to find a place to stay for the meeting tomorrow and he wasn’t going to intrude on the happy couples home after the children were born. He definitely didn’t want to overstep his boundaries. Starting his car back up he dared to look at the phone he left behind. There were a dozen messages from Liam left behind. The only thing that stuck to him was a short text message:The wolves know we’re here. Alarkin rolled his eyes. Great, this was exactly what he was trying to avoid. At least they don’t know exactly what they are. The thought would definitely make all shifters work together to eradicate them. Shaking his head, he gripped the wheel really hard as he forced himself to drive. The main thing on his mind was wondering if what Liam said was also part of the problem that’d be in the meeting tomorrow. He definitely needed to rest though. Knock, knock! Pitter patter pitter patter. Alarkin was forced to open his eyes as someone kept pounding on the door repeatedly. Feeling the person’s energy, he knew it was no other than the group coordinator. “Coming,” Alarkin said as he forced himself up. Clicking his fingers, he used the little energy he had to glamour himself a suit. As soon as he opened the door the young man stared at him approvingly. “Ready?” the man asked and Alarkin smiled as he followed the man out. He was looking forward to seeing his sister who was still unmated but kept her group well together. “How’s Christine?” Alarkin asked as the man forced a smile. “ Good you’ll be seeing her soon, the man said as soon as they entered a private room. Three elite warriors moved to guard the entrance as Alarkin took a seat and saw his sister across the way. It didn’t even look like she noticed him yet. “So what brings you all here?” Alarkin asked and the elders in the room eyed him. They sighed as one of them was about to speak. “Our territories are getting smaller and our numbers are not as big as most shifter communities. The committee has openly decided that we may as well mate with the humans to help expand,” the elder explained as Alarkin noticed his sisters face fall. “ but under no circumstances do I want anyone mating with a shifter as it’s forbidden and we are unsure of what will be the result when it comes to childbearing. It is too much of a risk we can’t take.” Agreeing with the man, Alarkin stood and shook his hand. “ We will make sure we know we can expand our horizons,” Alarkin said. “Right now we are just trying to settle and not get on anyone’s radar.” “I see,” the elder said. “I hope you keep to your word and double your numbers within the year or two. We hope to make negotiations with the shifters next year to help them with their vampire problem. Hiding what we are won’t be too hard.”
