The beginning of my Woe

Rose sat on the Sofa of her sitting room, it was a Saturday morning, and she doesn’t work on weekends.

The sitting room was painted green with beautiful paintings on the wall, there was a portrait of her and her twin daughters Elsa and Esin hung on the wall, and a dining on one section of the room which has a flower pot on it, The windows were covered with beautiful curtains which had green print on it, the curtains were slightly opened and the glaring sunlight fell into the glass window, reflecting the light and brightening up the room.

At her front was a flat screen television mounted on the wall. She was watching a movie on African Magic channel, her eyes were on the television but her mind wondered far away from the room she was, and roam into the dark shades of her past, twenty years ago.

It was her birthday party and she had invited Alex to the small party she threw in her apartment, with Alice her elder sister and other of her female friends and course mate in attendants.

It was her first year in school and Alex happens to be her closest friend, she had always had feelings for Alex but wondered if Alex felt the same for her, as he had never approached her for a relationship, and she was waiting patiently for the day he will ask her to be his girlfriend.

Months passed by and he didn’t ask her out. So on that faithful day of her birthday she had planned to tell him how she felt about him, But things had ended up not working the way she had planned, and that day was the beginning of her sorrows.

Alex had came into the party dressed in a milk colour T-shirt with tight fitted blue trouser, commonly known as Fella trouser, the trouser had a little flare at the down, his entrance into the room makes the ladies in the room stare at him in admiration. He was handsome with an average height and dark complexion “His skin was like the fire-gold glow of dawn.

He walked into the room, all eyes on him and sat down on a chair beside Alice.

Alex was surprised to meet Alice there, Alice was a three hundred level student from the department of biochemistry, He had met her a week earlier at the school Library and since then had developed feelings for her. He never knew she was related to Rose, and seeing her at the party he had thought she was rose friend.

He was a fresher in school just like Rose, although he started his university education late, due to his inability to secure admission early.

Alex was a twenty three year old business man, which after trying JAMB (The joint admission and matriculation board) severally, decides to go into business. Luckily he was able to secure an admission at the university of Uyo, it was a dream come true for him as he began to combined business with his studies.

He met Rose the day he came to check for his admission on the notice board of the admission office. Rose had also came to the office to check if her name was out, luckily they both find there name on the merit list of the Computer Science department, noticing they were course mates they immediately became friends.

Due to Alex tight business schedules, he was always absent in class and in most cases Rose helped him in taking his attendance and also doing some of his assignment for him. And when ever he came to school he will buy things for her and sometimes give her money to take care of her needs in school.

After three months of their knowing each other their friendship grows, but Rose started developing feelings for him, while Alex on the other hand only see’s their friendship as mutual, as he was taking care of most of her bills in school.

After Rose eighteenth birthday, Alex noticed Rose attitude had changed towards him, she was no longer helping him with his assignment, and there was a day they had test in class and he was surprised Rose never told him about the test. Due to his business he wasn’t always regular in class and as such wasn’t close to any student, and Rose happened to be the only friend he had in a class of about hundred students.

Alex was so angry at Rose attitude towards him, and on that day he had decided to confront her. He was driving towards the faculty of Science were they were having a CMS 101 lecture, which was scheduled to be by 2pm.

As he was driving he met Rose on the way, trekking towards the same direction he was driving to, he pulled his Volvo 240 station wagon by the side of the road, and horned for her to join him. Rose felt reluctant of entering the car at first but letter decided to open the car grudgingly and sat at the front seat beside Alex.

“Why are you acting weird toward me?”

Alex asked.

“Nothing” she replied, looking out of the Window.

“Then if you say nothing, what can you say about this attitude you are pulling up right now?”

“You know what the problem is”

She said.

“I don’t know anything please tell me,” Alex questioned, impatiently.

“Since you don’t know what the problem is, then let the matter slide,”

She replied with an angry tone.

Alex drove the car to the department and pulled it by the parking lot of the faculty, He came down from the car and started walking towards the direction the lecture was scheduled to hold, with Rose walking faster ahead of him. The female student that were sitting at the pavements outside waiting for there lecture to commence stares at him as he passed, Alex was not only handsome but was one of the richest student on campus.

After class he drove Rose to an eatery as he had wanted to have a discussion with her.
