Deva was at my side the whole time, talking to me about anything and everything. She was a young cute girl. Apparently, we were also close to the same age, her and her twin was seventeen. Not to mention what I was gathering, Daejon was really starting to go off the deep end recently. He was doing this completely out of character and even lashing out at his sisters who he loved more than anything. Even told Hinda that he was done looking for his Mate, which wolves NEVER did. We need our Mates, for everything, to be our everything.
The picture they were painting was not a good one. This thriving busy village was on the verge of crumbling down, and I couldn’t help but wonder…could I stop it?
When I was patched up, I asked the doc if I could have a sheet. Confused, he let me have it. I wrapped I around myself as I left with Deva in tow.
“What are you doing, Etana? I don’t like the look in your eyes.” She nearly whimpered.
I turned to smile at her. “I want to help you.”
She shook her head. “What do you mean?”
“Don’t wait up for me.” I said touching her face lightly with a smile before turning towards the forest. “Oh, this is going to suck.”
I started walking to the edge of the village, knowing he could probably feel me getting farther away.
“Etana! No! Daejon said not to leave! What if he kills you?!” Deva pleaded.
I smiled at her over my shoulder. “Then, I wasn’t really his Mate.”
I felt bad as tears began streaming down her face, but it was too late. I already committed to this, so I was going to run with it. As I stepped closer I could feel a sense of dread in my heart, almost like it was hurting me to leave. I pushed it away and kept on.
“Runt!”
Hearing Daejon’s booming voice made me let out a sigh, of course he didn’t even know my name. I turned slightly to see him storming over to me. “It’s Etana Snowcap, in case you want to use my actual name.”
He growled, eyes flickering darker with each step I took. “What the f**k are you doing?”
“Oh, were you talking to me? I didn’t know.” I said rolling my eyes. “I’m walking, can’t you see, Alpha.”
I heard him still growling, getting slightly louder when I said ‘Alpha’ in a mocking tone. “I told you that you weren’t to leave!”
I shook my head of my fear and attempted to find my courage, because what I was about to do might end me for good. With a deep breath in my lungs I dropped the sheet behind me and let out the breath. I glanced over my shoulder at him and watched his eyes go black.
Game on.
“You can’t stop me. You’re not my Alpha.”
As soon as the words left my mouth I started running. I dove and Turned in mid-air, landing on four fast white paws. It didn’t take a few seconds for him to be after me, and the howl he let out made me know this game I was playing was going to only end up two ways. Neither of them were good.
My life was forfeit anyways. If I stayed in the village and watched Daejon go insane he would probably kill me first, then he would snap and slaughter his whole pack. If I went back to my pack and he really was my Mate, by the time I would feel the bond it would probably be too late for him and he would be feral and then I would go next.
There were no good options.
So, I had this.
This cat and mouse game to get his wolf out to play, and see what happens now that he doesn’t think I’m a pup, but a young woman. His Mate.
My legs carried me like a little lightning bolt, while he barreled through like a rhino in a china shop. As soon as he was close to catching me I would push myself faster and evade him skillfully. This was what my wolf did well, run.
After about an hour I got the sense he was ready for confrontation, so after spotting a stream I decided to let him catch me and hope he doesn’t snap my neck. I slowed my pace a little and waited for him to catch up. Suddenly I was grabbed by my hindquarters and tossed sideways to the ground. It was rough, but not what I was expecting from him.
Then it came. He leaned over my whole body to pin my throat down, letting out a low gravely growl that made me instantly know what he wanted. This was different, something I only accidentally heard once before. He wanted me to submit, but not your normal submission. He wanted me, as his unmated Mate to submit to him and his wolf. It was honestly not something I thought he was going to do.
I figured we were going to fight again, and maybe bring him to terms with acting like an ass like fighting all the time, but not this. His jaws were around my throat, and with his large stature he could easily hold this position and observe my submission.
f**k.
Well, I was the one who started this. So, let’s get on with it.
I bared my teeth to see what he would do, and as I figured he clamped down harder on my throat. With no other option, I pushed my legs under me and lifted my butt up while my neck was still on the ground. I had to worry about his wolf getting excited and trying to take me now I was in this position.
To my surprise, he released my jaw to sniff my face and then licked my muzzle. I was so shocked it sent me back to my human form. I was naked in front of the black wolf again. This time though, I didn’t see the same rage in his eyes. It was just us out here. Me, and him.
“Shift so we can talk.” I said gently, resisting the urge to touch the side of his face that my body willed me to do.
Oh, hell…was this…the Mate Bond?
No. No. No…I can feel it. It was faint, but it was there and growing stronger. I could smell him, crisp clovers and fresh like soap. It was intoxicating. Was this how I smelled to him? I closed my eyes to try to get baring’s on what was happening to me. Then I remembered what Serena said, Dire’s mature at their own pace. It’s the day after my birthday, and I guess it was true. Everything was starting to feel different. Even Daejon seemed different. He seemed…calmer.
Daejon turned to his human form running his hand across his short hair and letting out a deep breath.
“I can feel it.” Was all I said, opening my eyes to see him looking down at me.
He nodded. “I can feel you matured.”
I bit down on my bottom lip. “This is not how I was thinking this was going to turn out.”
When he raised an eyebrow at me I decided to let him in on my original plan.
“I planned on making you attack me again.” I said first, causing him to growl. “Let me finish. I was trying to prove to you that the way you were acting is wrong. Cold, mean, and unforgiving. Your turning into a monster, and I think you know it.”
Daejon’s jaw clenched. “Who are you to judge me?”
I snorted. “Your Mate apparently.”
“Stop back talking me.” He said with a shake of his head.
I rolled my eyes. “See, cold.”
Daejon let out a short growl. “No one talks to me the way you do, and it’s pissing me off.”
“Deal with it.” I said with narrowed eyes. “Your pack needs you to get your s**t together. I’ve been here not even two days and all I’ve been hearing about is how great of an Alpha you used to be. You’re a tyrant now. Everyone is afraid of you. Your own Mate is afraid of you, how does that make your wolf feel, eh?”
I watched his jaw clench. Oh, but I wasn’t done.
“You call the sisters you love, Runts! What sick s**t is that after what happened? How dare you call them that. And yeah, say it’s not my business. Whatever. Your sister confided in me after I attacked those boys trying to attack her. They had her on her knees, Daejon!”
He shook his head. “Shut up.”
I scoffed. “The one boy had her arms pinned behind her back while the other-“
“Stop f*****g talking!” He shouted at me as he put his face in his hand.
“The other boy was taking out his c**k to shove in her mouth! Who knows what after that. Hey, Daejon? Do you even know if this is the first time this has happened to your sisters?”
That did it.
In a quick motion, he shoved me down onto my back with his hand around my throat. Not too tight, just enough to keep me completely still. His eyes turned dark, and I wasn’t sure if it was from anger or lust this time. I took a slow breath, never breaking eye contact with him. I inhaled through my nose and out through my mouth.
He looked so conflicted, and it hurt. Everything in me wanted to take his pain away, but I couldn’t do that yet. Not yet.
“Daejon. Why do you keep attacking me?” I asked, watching him look around like he didn’t know what he did.
“I just…needed you to stop talking…” He said putting his head down to my throat, taking deep breaths of my scent.
I tried to keep my body’s natural response to its Mate at bay. “You need to let me up, Daejon.”
He shook his head. “Not yet.”
Those are two famous words around here. I swallowed as my n*****s hardened at his body on mine, and I nearly groaned in frustration as my center started to react. No. No.
“Daejon, please. Get up.” I pleaded, but it didn’t really sound like a plea. More like a whine, which didn’t help our situation.
I felt his free hand run across my side and up my left arm. Before I even realized what he was doing he had my wrists in one hand and the one that had my throat was now on my waist. Everywhere he touched tingled and ignited my heart, and for everyone’s sake in the pack, I hope it was doing the same for him.
“Daejon…” I tried to tell him to get off again, but it really didn’t come out like that. It moved out of my throat breathy and full of need. My own stupid voice betrayed me.
He let out a deep growl, but it was of his own need. “If you say my name one more time, I’m not going to be able to stop us from taking you in the dirt, Etana.”
He said my name! Progress! It was short lived though, as I was still pinned under him naked and wanting. Wait, he said us. His wolf must be fighting him for control. “I’m not ready to give you anything. You just ripped me to shreds over saving your sister a few hours ago.”
“I…thought you had attacked her and then attacked the boys who I thought came to help her. I reacted without thinking.” He said low.
“Something you seem to be doing a lot lately.” I said as my back arched from his hand moving up my side to my chest.
I let out a little cry as his large rough hand moved over my breast and began messaging gently. The heat radiating off us could start a fire at this point.
His black eyes never left mine as he watched my face fight the pleasure. “I can’t help it. It’s been maddening, as the weeks go by I feel more and more like a monster.”
“How do you feel now?” I made out before a light moan escaped my lips.
Daejon’s hips pressed into mine hearing the noise. “Like I have a chance.”
I bit down on my lip. “Then you shouldn’t ruin it, right?”
“I don’t intend too.”
Before I could say anything else his lips crashed onto mine, and instantly sent a wave of pleasure and happiness through me. In that moment is when I truly felt it, without a doubt, Alpha Daejon Escuro was my Mate.
