Time to say goodbye

Chapter 3 . . . . Kinley Pov . . . . Today was the day, It was time to say goodbye to my family one last time. I sat at the front row of the pew at church and it seems the whole town joined my family's funeral. My family has been so loved in this community and if I could feel anything then I'd be over the moon about it. I'm sure the service was lovely but I couldn't hear a thing the pastor was saying. I stared at the 3 closed caskets in front of me. I guess the wreck was so bad that they couldn't have opened caskets. All week long I have been zoned out and today was no different. I don't even know if I had anymore tears to cry. I was a zombie. I didn't care about anything anymore. After a few days ago when the lawyer and case worker came. Uncle Joe has been awfully quiet. He was enraged and I was numb. It took the sheriff coming back down for him to eventually calm down. He called that woman every ungodly name in the book and it was a sight to see. If I wasn't so numb, then I may have just had a good time watching the scene unfold. The sheriff finally told him that he needed to watch the ranch for me and I'd be back. I talked to Uncle. Joe the next day. told him that I'd be fine and would keep in touch until I could come back. But I needed him to still be here to watch over things for me. He was very hurt, as was I but it's better than them locking him up and taking the last bit of family I had away. He wasn't wrong though. I had no clue who this woman or her family was. Uncle Joe may not be blood related but he's been my father's best friend since they were in pampers. They've always been thick as thieves. But as long as the system thinks they are right, then everyone else HAS to be wrong. I accepted my fate. I knew that I had two days before being shipped off to a town I ain't never heard of, by New Jersey. Life is going to be so different for the next two years and I'm just wondering what is going to be thrown at me next. They say bad things happen in threes... A tap on my shoulder brought me out of my trance. It was then I realized that everyone was leaving the church and heading to the burial site on my family's ranch. I specifically chose to have them buried at home because we have always said that, that place was our sanctuary. to be passed down to future generations as it had been passed down to us. " Are you okay sweetie? " Uncle Joe asked me in a hurt tone. " No. Uncle Joe. I don't know. I'm just..... here. " I answered honestly. A tear fell out of his eye and he crouched down to hug me. " I know lil bit. I'm gonna miss ya but you come back to me ya hear? " I nodded. " I promise Uncle Joe. As they lowered my momma, Daddy and brother in the ground. I silently said goodbye to my family one last time. I could feel the life inside of me dying bit by bit until there was nothing left but someone who I've yet to become. * * * 3 DAYS LATER * * * Ms. Palmer took it upon herself to escort to the east Coast all on her own. And I hate to say it but she was slowly becoming someone I despised every single time she opened her mouth. I just took essentials with me like clothes and such that fit into 4 suitcases. I'm not staying here forever and it's only two years. We pulled up in a taxi to the address Ms. Palmer was given. It was actually a nice looking two story townhouse with a kept lawn. but the air here was horrendous. I'd rather go back to the country. The front door bust opened as we were pulling my luggage from the taxi and out walked a woman who looked almost identical to my mother and a man with black comb backed hair. I think he's Italian. " You must be Kinley? " The woman said with her arms outstretched trying to give me a hug. I got some weird vibes from them so instead of hugging her I just stepped to the side while the caseworker handed her one of my bags. " Yes she is. I'm Kinley's caseworker Danielle Palmer. You must be Dino and Pamela Lazaro. " Ms. Palmer said without missing a beat. and it was almost comical the way she just inserted her self to the people who were apparently my aunt and uncle. " Why don't you come on in and we can show you around and introduce you to the girls. " The dino guy offered. With each of us grabbing one of my bags. We made our way to the house and took my bags to a room that was apparently " made up for me" But it was a closet? yup ok. They showed us around the house and we eventually sat in their " foyer" They had some weird accents but they would probably think the same about me. Two girls my age appeared from outside. Both look like their father. dark hair and olive skin. They were gorgeous tho. " Deena and Larissa. This is your cousin Kinley. Kinley, This is our girls. Deena is 17 and Larissa is 16 like you. " We all greeted one another before Ms. Palmer notified them of the rules to the money they would be getting for housing me the next two years. Dino and Pamela seemed to be more interested in the money conversation more than they were about anything else. I just zoned the whole conversation out until Ms. Palmer clapped her hand on her knee and said, " Well I think that does it. I should get going if I want to. catch my flight. " They said their goodbyes and Ms. Palmer told me to call her if I needed anything and she reminded them yet again that someone would be coming by to check on me before they get paid and she left. The family seemed to be nice but for a girl who just lost everything. I just couldn't seem to care. could ya blame me?
