40 My vision blurred. Gabe’s voice was only an echo as he shouted at me. I was fading. And then, all of a sudden, I felt a rush of energy as Gabe grabbed my shoulder and shook it. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to let me end my spell and cut myself off from the black hole that had been draining the life out of me. I think Gabe could feel it, because he flinched just then. “Are you all right?” Gabe cried after he saw me stir. “What happened?” I pulled myself up with great difficulty. I barely had any energy left in me, and my body was shaking all over. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it back to the house. However, I had enough strength left to know that we were no longer alone. Something was out there, stirring, coming closer. I could feel it. “We need to get out of here,”
