Chapter 5 Mike sits on his bed, a bag packed and resting at his feet. He stares at the floor. Jacob can see how puffy his eyes are now that it’s morning. When he woke up a little after seven, Mike was crying again. Jacob’s tired of apologizing. He hopes Mrs. Nelson comes to get him soon. Lying on his own bed, Jacob’s already dressed for class. He even wears his blazer, because they have the window open slightly. It’s too warm with the heater on, but now that the window’s cracked, it’s too cold. He wants to leave already. He doesn’t like being in this room with Mike, who can’t seem to stop crying. Jacob never thought he’d want to go to church or to class but right now? He wants to be anywhere but here.
