Chapter 10

I kept going even though my lungs burned and my body ached. I just need some time. I stumbled on a root and into a clearing. I looked around as I stopped to right myself. I knew this place. Even though I had never been here before I knew it. This was the clearing in my vision of Justin. It looked exactly the same as the vision. Was it spring already? I walked deeper into the clearing and looked around. I didn’t see either of the wolves but this was definitely the right place. Something told me it was almost time. I guess I will just have to wait. I went to the middle of the clearing and sat on the ground. I’ll practice magic while I wait. I closed my eyes and began to meditate. I worked with my power to control how it spread out of my body. After a while I was able to expanded my magic from my body to cover the clearing and back. It became easier as I practiced. I wasn’t sure about the time going by and I had blocked everyone in my mind so they couldn’t reach me either. I felt someone watching me from my right after a while. I didn’t feel any evil intent so I remained where I was and continued to practice. I had expanded and collapsed my magic three times before I heard a twig snap to my left. I opened my eyes and looked in the direction of the sound. I extended my power again to be safe. Through the brush, a black wolf emerged. It was Justin. I smiled and stood as he came closer. I heard him growl at me, which caused me to pause. My magic still covered the clearing when another wolf emerged to my right. Now that it was in the clearing, I could sense it clearly. She was a shifter and from the feel of it, strong. Just as in my vision, the sandy brown wolf passed by on my right. I felt her brush against my hand. I watched as the scene unfolded before me. I couldn’t help the smile that spread when I heard the gasp from both wolves. I felt them shift into human form, Justin pulled on shorts before straightening. The female remained crouched until she was able to pull a sundress from a bag on her leg. I hadn’t noticed that. I saw them face each other, I couldn’t see Justin’s face but hers was curious. She was lovely with long sandy brown hair and olive skin. I wanted a better look so I started forward. I made it to Justin when he held me back. I was confused as my gaze landed on his face. He had a blank expression and refused to look anywhere but at the other shifter. I looked to her and could see her gray eyes scrutinizing her mate’s action. “Who are you?” Justin sounded bored. “Your mate.” She curtly replied. “Name?” I was beyond confused now. Justin sounded like he was interrogating her. She snorted, “Just do it already.” “Do what?” I had to ask because Justin turned a lovely shade of red. “He’s going to reject me obviously.” “Why would he do that? You’re his mate.” I felt Justin tense. She laughed out loud then. She motioned to his arm blocking me from moving forward. Before I could reply a chocolate, brown wolf crashed through the trees. Jeremy saw me and didn’t pay attention to anything else. He shifted in mid stride, crushing me to him and held on for dear life. I whispered to him that I was fine and I was sorry. Justin smiled as he watched us. Jeremy held me at arms length and looked all over me. ”You scared me chere. One minute you were in front of me then you were gone. None of us could reach you. Jasper went a little crazy and argued with his father. I had Justin help me try to follow your scent. I’m so glad you’re safe.” “I’m sorry wolfie. I just needed a moment alone. I didn’t think at all, I just ran.” I was truly sorry but I needed the space for a while. “What is going on?” I heard the confusion in her voice as Jeremy finally noticed there was someone else with us. “I’m sorry…um, what’s your name?” I tried to smooth things over with Justin’s mate. “Luna.” She sounded so confused. “Luna, beautiful name. I’m sorry for all the confusion. Justin here is my mate’s brother. Jeremy here is my mate.” Luna looked at Justin then, he sighed. “There have been attempts on her life so I had to make sure that you weren’t going to hurt her. Mate or not, I won’t let anyone hurt her.” “Attempts? That explains the hostility. I roam these woods trying to look out for others. Any female traveler in these woods get extra attention from me. My parents were killed in these woods by hunters, I try to honor them by saving others.” “Angel here is part of a prophecy so there’s a target on her back.” Jeremy added. “You are her? The one? I’ve been waiting for you. I would like to offer myself into your service my lady.” Luna dropped to one knee and dropped her gaze. I sighed, “Luna, please don’t do that. You are already part of my family since you and Justin are mates. If he hasn’t messed that up yet.” I gave him a sharp look and he shrugged. “I would be honored to have someone as wonderful as you in my family.” Luna rose and nodded. I smiled and looked to Justin with a fix this look. He took the hint and went over to Luna. He better fix it or he’d deal with me. “Ready to go back now?” “Absolutely wolfie.” “I’ll shift and you can ride on my back through the woods.” I smiled and nodded vigorously. Jeremy was still laughing as he turned into the wolf again. I climbed onto his back and wrapped my arms around his neck. His fur was always so soft. Hang on chere. I smiled as he took off. I loved riding on his back. Even though he was running and jumping over obstacles, I had no problem hanging on. Other than the jumps the ride back was smooth. It felt like it took us no time to make it back. He slowed down when we were out of the woods. I still hung onto his neck and nuzzled his fur. I could feel him chuckled under me. That was amazing. I just don’t want it to end yet. I love how soft your fur is. If I don’t bring you back soon, the others might lose their minds. I’ll tell you what, tonight I’ll change and you can cuddle with my wolf. Really? Anything for you. I love you. And I love you chere. Jeremy had stopped moving when I felt Jackson grab me off his back. Jackson was looking me over just as Jeremy had done. When he was satisfied that I was unharmed, he crushed me to him. I whispered apologies and soothing words. “I already told her what happened and why we freaked out.” Jeremy had changed back and was already dressed. “You found her!” Jasper came striding towards me with a determined look. Jackson placed me on my feet just for me to be scooped up by Jasper. His skin felt like it was on fire. I hugged him to me and attempted to calm him down as well. I could feel his magic right at the surface, trying to break free. I heard Luther and Isabelle join us as the heat began to decrease in Jasper. “I will never forgive him for scaring you like that.” Isabelle sounded like she was crying. I tried to pull away from Jasper but he refused to let go. I realized now that I had never run away from him. Jeremy and Jackson had already experienced this with me. This was becoming a pattern that I needed to break.
