Chapter 1: The Shot
Haborview a small town which always felt like a place forgotten by time, where the rest of the world spun faster while dense woods and misty hills clung to ancient secrets.
Evelyn Wilson, found herself irresistibly drawn to these secrets, the town’s reputation for mysterious disappearances and strange howls in the night was a story that locals feared, but it was the kind of intrigue that brought Evelyn to this isolated corner of the world.
Evelyn crouched behind her camera, eyes scanning the moonlit the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves. She had been waiting for hours, determined to capture the perfect shot for her photography portfolio. The forest was her happy place, where the world’s chaos melted away.
At 28, Evelyn was a talented photographer, with brown –caramel skin, with a long curly ginger hair which was always packed in a ponytail and her almond- shaped brown eyes that always seem to be searching for the next thing to capture.
But passion was often overshadowed by her practical concerns; her parents had been died in a tragic accident when she was a teenager, leaving her with a hefty inheritance and a sense of responsibility. She had always felt like an outsider, but behind the lens, she was in control.
As she adjusted her lens, the silence was broken by the distant howl of a wolf. Evelyn‘s heart skipped a beat. She had always been drawn to the mysterious and unknown, and this place was rumored to be a hotspot for supernatural activity.
Her mind wandered to the local legends: stories of shape-shifters, ghost, werewolves and other mysterious creatures lurking in the shadows. Evelyn had always been skeptical, but a part of her hoped to uncover something.
She checked her camera settings, ensuring everything was perfect for the shot. The moon was full, casting an ethereal glow over the forest. Evelyn’s eyes scanned the trees, searching movement.
The forest was alive with sounds: crickets chirping, leaves rustling, and the distant rumble of a stream. Her senses were on high alert, anticipating the perfect shot.
As she waited, Evelyn’s thought drifted to her best friend, Aria who had convinced her to take this risk. “You need to get out there and capture something amazing,” Aria had said.
“Something that’ll make people sit up and take notice.”
And then, she saw him.
A figure emerged from the darkness, tall and imposing. Evelyn’s heart quickened; she raised her camera. Her finger hovered over the shutter release, anticipation building.
“Perfect,” she whispered.
The figure began to shift, its body contorting in ways humanly impossible. Evelyn’s eyes widened as she realized what she was witnessing, her mind struggled to process what she saw, but her camera captured every detailed.
“Click.”
The camera’s shutter release echoed through the forest, a sound that seemed to freeze time. Evelyn’s eyes locked onto the werewolf that was before her and for an instant they shared a connection.
The werewolf’s gaze was piercing, as if seeing right through her. Evelyn felt exposed, vulnerable. Her heart pounded in her chest, but she couldn’t look away.
Suddenly, the werewolf’s expression changed. Its eyes narrowed, and Evelyn sensed a growl building in its chest.
“Run,” a voice whispered in her mind.
Evelyn sprang into action, grabbing her camera and running through the forest for her dear life. Branches snagged at her clothes, but she didn’t dare look back, her feet pounded against the earth the only sound in silence.
As Evelyn ran, her thoughts were a jumbled mix of fear and excitement. She had never felt so alive.
She burst through the trees, gasping for air. Her car was parked nearby, a haven from the darkness. Evelyn fumbled for her keys, dropping them in her haste.
As she bent to pick them up, a low growl echoed through the night, Evelyn’s heart sank.
She was not alone.
Evelyn’s hands trembled as she unlocked her car door; she threw herself inside, locking the doors behind her, her breath came in ragged gasps as she started the engine.
As she pulled away from the forest, Evelyn glanced in the rearview mirror, the werewolf stood at the tree line, watching her escape.
Their eyes met once more, and Evelyn felt a shiver run down her spine.
She knew she had captured something incredible, something that could change her life forever.
“But at what cost?”
Evelyn’s mind reeled as she drove away from the forest. She had always been drawn to the unknown, but she wondered if she had gone too far now.
The camera lay on the passenger seat, its screen still displaying the image of the werewolf. Evelyn’s eyes drifted to the photo, and she felt a thrill of excitement mixed with fear.
“What had she just witnessed?” she thought to herself and what would happen next?
Sebastian watched Evelyn flee for her life, his heart racing with mixed emotions, he had never intended to be seen, but something about Evelyn drew him in.
As werewolf, Sebastian Black wood was accustomed to control and precision, but Evelyn’s presence had unsettled him, stirring desires he thought buried.
At 30 in human years, Sebastian was over 90 in wolf years, was a powerful alpha of the ‘Shadow Fang Clan’ pack. His chiseled features and piercing blue eyes made him a commanding presence, his jet black hair.
Sebastian couldn’t shake the strange connection he had when he saw Evelyn.
“Who could that be? And what is she doing in the forest by this time” he thought to himself.
He took a deep breath, trying to composing himself. Sebastian knew he had to find Evelyn, to ensure she didn’t expose his kind to the human eyes. But part of him longed to see her again to understand why she affected him so deeply.
As he watched Evelyn’s car disappeared into the night, leaving him with more questions than answers.
Evelyn arrived at her house, her mind still racing from the events of the night. She locked the door behind her, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.
As she walked into the living room, Evelyn noticed a strange envelope on the coffee table. Her name was scribbled on it with red ink. Who could have left this?
She opened the envelope, pulling out a single sheet of paper
“You shouldn’t have taken that photo,” the note read.
Evelyn’s blood ran cold. How did they know where she lived?
Just then her phone buzzed, breaking the silence. She glanced at the screen, her heart skipping a beat.
‘’Unknown Number.”
She hesitated before answering.
“Hello?”
“Evelyn Wilson?” a husky voice asked.
“Yes."
“Who is this?” Evelyn demand.
“Let’s meet to discuss better.”
Evelyn’s instincts screamed warning, but her curiosity won out.
Her heart was pounding in her chest.
“What do you want from me?” she asked.
“You have something that belongs to me,” the voice repeated.
Evelyn’s grip on the phone tightened. “I deleted the photo.”
“Don’t lie to me,” the voice growled.
Evelyn felt a chill run down her spine.
“Where."
“Meet me at the old oak tree at midnight. Come alone.”
“I’ll there,” Evelyn said, trying to sound calm.
“Don’t be late,” the voice warned.
The line went dead.
Evelyn hesitated, unsure if she should trust this mysterious stranger.
Evelyn’s hand shook as she placed the phone on the coffee table. She felt trapped, with no way out.
But something about his voice drew her in.
“What have I gotten myself into” she wondered to herself.
Sebastian watched Evelyn’s house from across the street, his heart still racing from their earlier encounter.
As he observed Evelyn’s nervous movement through the window, his protective instincts kicked in, he knew he knew he had to protect her.
“But from who?”
Sebastian’s phone rang, breaking his thoughts.
“Yes?” Sebastian answered.
“Sebastian, we have a problem,” Marcus said.
“What is it?” Sebastian growled.
Marcus was Sebastian beta and best friend. “Someone’s been asking questions about Evelyn Wilson.”
Sebastian’s eyes narrowed. Who was behind this?
“Find out who,” Sebastian ordered.
“I’m on it, Marcus replied.
Sebastian’s gaze returned to Evelyn’s house, he knew he had to protect her at all cost.
