Ava stood before her father, her heart pounding in her chest. She had come to plead with him, to convince him to release Liam and allow her to be with the man she loved.
"Father, please," she begged, her voice trembling. "Don't make me marry Prince Ryder. I don't know him, and I don't love him. I love Liam, and I know that we can be happy together."
The King's face darkened, and he raised his voice. "Ava, you will do as you are told," he thundered. "You will marry Prince Ryder and secure the future of our kingdom. You will not disobey me on this."
Ava took a step back, her eyes welling up with tears. But then, to her surprise, her father's expression softened, and he beckoned her closer.
"Ava, come here," he said, his voice gentle once more. "Let me explain why this marriage is so important."
Ava hesitated, but her curiosity got the better of her. She took a step forward, and her father began to speak.
"You see, Ava, our kingdom is in a precarious position," he explained. "We are surrounded by enemies, and we need the support of Prince Ryder's kingdom to ensure our safety. This marriage will secure our alliance and protect our people."
Ava listened, her mind racing with thoughts. She knew that her father was a just ruler, but she couldn't help feeling that this marriage was a mistake.
"But Father," she said, trying to reason with him. "Can't we find another way to secure our alliance? One that doesn't involve me marrying a man I don't love?"
The King's expression turned stern once more. "Ava, I've made up my mind," he said. "You will marry Prince Ryder, and that's final. Now, go to bed and don't mention this again."
Ava's face reddened with anger and tears streamed down her face as she glared at her father. "So, this is why you've been searching for me all these years?" she spat, her voice venomous. You abandoned me and my mother, only to come back now and try to use me for your own gain? Because of this marriage, this plan of yours?"
The King's expression faltered, and he took a step back, shocked by Ava's words.
"You didn't care about me, about my happiness, about my well-being," Ava continued, her voice rising. "You only cared about your own ambitions, your own power. And now, you expect me to just go along with it? To marry some man I don't love, some man I've never even met?"
Ava's anger boiled over, and she turned to leave, but not before delivering a parting blow. "I'll go back to where I came from," she said, her voice cold and hard. "I'll get lost, and you'll never have to worry about me again. Forget my existence, Father. Pretend I never existed. I don't want to bear your name anymore."
With that, Ava turned and ran out of her father's room, slamming the door behind her. She stormed into her own room, slamming that door shut as well, and collapsed onto her bed, sobbing uncontrollably.
The King stood frozen in his room, shocked by Ava's words. He had expected her to resist, but he hadn't expected her to be so angry, so hurt. He felt a pang of guilt and regret, but it was too late now. He had made up his mind, and he would see this through, no matter the cost.
Days passed, and Ava's father's decision remained unchanged. The wedding was still set for two weeks' time, and Ava knew she had to make a decision. She couldn't bear the thought of marrying Prince Ryder, but she also couldn't see a way out.
As the days ticked by, Ava's hope began to dwindle. She realized that she might have to accept her fate, might have to marry Prince Ryder after all. The thought filled her with a sense of despair, but she knew that she had to be practical.
One day, Ava decided that she would accept her father's decision. She would marry Prince Ryder, and try to make the best of it. She knew it wouldn't be the life she wanted, but she would do her duty.
With a heavy heart, Ava went to her father's chambers and told him that she would accept his decision. Her father was overjoyed, and Ava could see the relief in his eyes.
"I'm glad you've come to your senses, Ava," he said, his voice warm with approval. "The wedding will take place in a week's time, as planned. I'll make sure everything is arranged."
Ava nodded, feeling a sense of resignation wash over her. She knew that her life was about to change forever, and she wasn't sure if she was ready.
Ava made her way to the dungeon, her heart heavy with sorrow. She had just accepted her fate, agreeing to marry Prince Ryder in a week's time. As she reached the cell where Liam was being held, she saw him standing behind the bars, his eyes locked on hers.
With tears streaming down her face, Ava reached out and touched Liam's hand, her fingers intertwining with his. "Liam," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I've accepted... I've agreed to marry Prince Ryder."
Liam's eyes filled with sadness, and he squeezed her hand gently. "Ava, no," he whispered back. "You can't do this. You deserve so much better than a loveless marriage."
Ava's tears fell harder, and she leaned her forehead against the bars. "I'm doing it for duty, Liam. But I couldn't bear the thought of leaving you here without trying to help you. Please, Liam, I'm begging you... don't make it hard for them to release you. If they ask you to leave the kingdom, just go. Don't fight it. I'll be okay, I promise."
Liam's eyes searched hers, and he saw the desperation there. He nodded slowly, his voice barely above a whisper. "Okay, Ava. I'll go. But know that my heart will always be with you."
Ava's eyes locked onto Liam's, and she saw the love and understanding there. She knew that he would do as she asked, and that gave her a small sense of comfort.
"I'll make sure you're released as soon as possible," she whispered, her voice trembling. "But you have to promise me you'll be safe, that you'll take care of yourself."
Liam nodded, his fingers still intertwined with hers. "I promise, Ava. I'll be safe. I'll always think of you, always love you."
Ava's tears fell harder, and she leaned in, her lips brushing against Liam's hand. "I love you too," she whispered. "Forever and always."
As she stood there, holding Liam's hand, Ava knew that she would carry this moment with her forever. She would hold onto the love they shared, and cherish the memories they had made together.
With one last squeeze of his hand, Ava turned and walked away, leaving Liam behind. She knew it would be hard to let go, but she had made her decision, and she would see it through.
