Chapter 6 Katerina Rivera, holding a paperback novel, reads on the garden restaurant terrace as Pari arrives for their lunch date. The petite seating area, large enough for only four tables, overlooks rows of tropical flowers nestled between monstera plants and a northern bay inlet in Haleiwa. Upon spotting Pari, Katerina unreels the table parasol to shade their seats from the sun, removes her sunglasses, and pulls her long blond hair away from her face with an abalone butterfly barrette.
