Chapter 28After Eddie stormed out of the office Johnny and Theo sat in stunned silence for a moment. Then Theo began to gather up the papers from the desk in front of him.
“You were magnificent, Mate,” Johnny said, “Calm, cool and collected.”
“I was merely following procedure. That is until you fired him, of course.”
Johnny closed his eyes and slid his hands down over his face before interlocking his fingers across his belly.
“I'm sorry Theo, but he made me see red. He was so smug, so sure of himself. I couldn't help myself. I thought I was rather restrained. I really wanted to hit him.”
Theo's face broke into a smile. “He was smug, wasn't he? And he tried to play that old record again of being your father's best friend. Was he your father's best friend?”
