Chapter 1 His Merciless Trap
"The baby is in the wrong position, and the mother is bleeding heavily. This is critical!" The obstetrician, hands covered in blood, turned to the man standing behind her with a grave expression. "Mr. Chesterfield, you need to decide. Who do we save, the mother or the baby?"
Leon Chesterfield stood at the foot of the bed, glancing indifferently at Aurelia Dotton, who was clinging to life. His expression remained calm, not a flicker of emotion in his eyes.
The woman on the bed was his wife, giving birth to his child. The baby's position was wrong, and both mother and child were in grave danger. However, Leon showed no signs of distress, looking at Aurelia as if she were a complete stranger.
"Mr. Chesterfield?" The doctor, growing anxious from the lack of response, called out again.
Only then did Leon shift his gaze to the doctor.
A vicious smile played on his lips. "What if I say I don't want either of them?"
The room fell silent instantly, the doctors and nurses stunned, their breathing heavy.
Aurelia, lying on the bed, was also in shock. She had married Leon less than a month ago, a marriage hastened by her pregnancy. Leon had pursued her, always doting on her. Everyone said he treated her like a princess. But now, this man who had loved her so deeply was saying he didn't want either her or the baby!
For a moment, Aurelia wondered if she had misheard.
"What... What did you say?" The doctor was equally incredulous and stammered.
Leon looked at Aurelia, his smile cruel. "I said, I don't want to save either of them."
At that moment, Aurelia felt as if her heart had been ripped out.
She struggled to sit up, wanting to ask Leon why. Just a few hours ago, he had been full of love when he brought her to the hospital. How had he changed so drastically in such a short time?
But she couldn't move. She had been given too much anesthesia and was paralyzed, her bloodshot eyes glaring at Leon, filled with unwillingness and despair, waiting for his answer.
At that moment, a woman in a red gown walked into the operating room.
"Sister, long time no see." The woman said with a sweet smile, and then affectionately hooked her arm through Leon's.
Aurelia was stunned. Isabella Dotton? What was she doing here?
And why was she so close to Leon?
Isabella was Aurelia's half-sister, her father's daughter from his first marriage. Isabella's mother, Laura Bones, had been Jerry Dotton's first wife, but she died when Isabella was three. Jerry then married Aurelia's mother, and Aurelia was born.
Laura had died of illness, but Isabella always believed Aurelia's mother was responsible for her mother's death. From that day, she harbored a deep-seated hatred for Aurelia.
When Jerry announced that Aurelia would inherit Dotton Group, Isabella's hatred peaked.
"You must be wondering why Leon suddenly changed and became so cruel." Isabella's smile turned vicious. "Because Leon is my boyfriend! I told him to pursue you! This was all my plan. He never loved you, and he married you only to help me take back Dotton Group!"
Aurelia's eyes widened in shock, tears welling up as she looked at Leon.
Isabella must be lying, right?
She desperately hoped that Leon could tell her that this was all a cruel joke, that his affections for her were real.
She waited for his explanation, but all she got was a look of disdain from Leon.
"Don't look at me like that. It's disgusting," Leon said coldly. "Beth is right. I never loved you. Everything I did was for her. Do you know how sick I felt every time I held you and whispered sweet nothings?"
He continued, "Now, finally, I'm free. Once you're dead, all your assets will be mine. As for the bastard in your belly, it has to go, too. Otherwise, those old pricks of the board will insist on making that brat the heir, and I can't take that risk."
Aurelia's world crumbled, her tears flowing freely.
She thought she had found a man worthy of her trust, but it had all been a meticulously crafted lie! Isabella had set a trap to exact her revenge!
"He... He's your child too!" Aurelia cried out with all her remaining strength.
The child was innocent.
Please, let him live...
Her eyes pleaded, but her desperation were met with cruel laughter.
Isabella laughed so hard that she clutched her stomach. Slowly, she approached Aurelia's bed and bent down to whisper in her ear, "One more secret. Nine months ago, at the Bleu, you didn't sleep with Leon after you were drunk. You were with an old man!"
Her laughter grew even more malicious. "Leon was too disgusted to sleep with you. I got you drunk and sold you to an old man for a million!"
Aurelia’s face turned deathly pale as Isabella’s words sank in.
Weak and helpless, she felt a blockage in her chest, unable to breathe. Suddenly, she sat up, spatting a mouthful of blood.
"Damn, the patient is too agitated and is going into shock! Prepare for defibrillation! We need to keep her conscious..."
The doctor's voice grew distant as Aurelia lost consciousness.
After some time, in her hazy state, she vaguely heard a cold voice. "Save her, no matter what it takes!"
The voice was commanding, filled with authority.
Aurelia struggled to open her eyes, trying to see who was speaking.
But no matter how hard she tried, her vision remained blurry. She could only make out a tall, imposing figure, exuding a kingly presence.
Too weak to stay awake, she soon fell back into unconsciousness.
Before drifting into darkness, she heard the doctor's respectful response, "Yes, Mr. Chesterfield."
