Thump Thump THUMP!! A1 Fox tail, A1 dust pan, A1 broom, A1 mop, A1 bucket. Thump Thump THUMP!! B2 dust fox tail, B2 dust pan, B2 broom, B2 mop, B2 bucket. Thump Thump THUMP!! Ugh wait B2 has three brooms and two fox tails. I forgot to initial. OMG!! I'm dripping sweat how embarrassing. Ew I touched my face and my gloves are covered with grease from these tools. Focus Rosilyn! The guys are going to be coming soon.
"Good Morning Ms. Celda, you have our tools ready?"
"We can help you. We know what belongs to us. This is how the other supervisors do it"
I just smiled and nodded. But inside my heart sounded like a school bell and I was shaking. No wait that is on the outside too! The sound of my heart was the actual bell alerting us that the inmates were arriving for duties. How can I exert authority and maintain my respect, if I can't get something; as simple as, tool distribution, under control?
"Ms. Celda are you ok?"
I look at my employee with a name I can't remember. At least I think he is my employee. I just smile and turn my heel into a full on sprint walk to get help. Lord, if you can just get me through this day, I promise I will never come back. I will be grateful with my little desk job.
"Mr. Zendejas, will you please help me. I am overwhelmed, I feel like I'm slowing staff down and I am forgetting things"
"Of course Celda, let us go see where you are, walk me through what you have done so far"
"Ok, when I arrived I counted and verified all tools, which were inventoried into the locked cage, were still there. Next, I initialed and moved onto separating the tools by department, so I could verify they were going to the right place. Then, staff arrived, grabbed their items without allowing me to finish checking them off, and left. Some did not sign off that they received their tools. At which point the inmates arrived and I full on panicked because I wasn't sure I would be able to assign their tools properly."
"Ok Celda, you did great! So, as long as you verify the tools are here, before everyone takes their assigned items, it's good. They know what belongs to them. You can go around to each person afterwards, to verify they got their correct tools and get their signature at that time. The inmates get whichever tools are left."
