Chapter 15

1023 Words
Mommy, wake up we're awake," says Holden. "Okay baby I'll put a movie on for you and then we'll wait for Scott to get up then we can make breakfast okay baby," I say. "Okay mommy," he says. I'm turning on a movie the I hear Scott say,"I'm awake. Let's go make these kiddos some breakfast." We all paid into the kitchen where we find a note on the kitchen counter from Jordan, it says "You're welcome to anything in here just make sure to lock up if you leave." We decided to make french toast and sausage for breakfast. After we eat I turn on the tv for the kids so Scott and I can clean up the kitchen. We then all get ready and head to the pool to swim with the kids. We play and splash one another. After awhile I get out of the pool with Harper but Scott and Holden stay in so he can teach him how to float on his back. By early afternoon the kids are getting tired and a little red so we head back to the apartment so lay can nap and we can relax. Once the kids are laying down we decide to watch a movie in the living room. I curl up next to Scott and slowly drift off to sleep. I've been working so much I haven't had the time to just sit down and relax. As I'm drifting off I hear Scott say,"I don't know how you do It Kat." I'm already slipping into dreamland and I can't respond back to him. I wake with a jolt not knowing where I'm at for a moment. "Kat, Hey it's okay," Scott says. I look around and start to calm down feeling my racing heart almost come out of my chest. "Sorry I had a bad dream and then couldn't remember where I was," I say. "Do you have nightmares often," he asks. "Every once in awhile. It hasn't happened lately but they start up every time I talk to Dylan. I brings back a lot of crap he did to me," I say. "I can understand that. He's a trigger for you huh," he says. "I guess so because it happens every time I hear is voice. I kind of sends me back in time to when we were together. He damn near tore the ligaments and tendons in my left wrist one night when the kids were about a year old and he did it right in front of the kids," I say. "Wow what a pos he is," he says. "You have no idea," I say. "You have PTSD from him don't you," he asks? "Yes, it's one of my diagnoses," I say. "I can help you when you start to feel like you are having a flashback or anything," Scott says. "That would really help me out if you could," I say. I get up to go and check the kids and they are still asleep. I decide to make a late lunch or early supper whichever way you want to look at it. While I cook the kids woke up and Scott entertained them so they wouldn't be in the kitchen while I was cooking. Halfway through cooking Jordan shows up and helps with the kids. I watch them interact with them and realize Scott is going to be amazing with them. I finish up supper and call them to the table and get the kids their food them dish up the guy's food. I get to know Jordan more over dinner and he's truly a good man. He's just been dealt a rough hand. "Hey, how would you guys like to go to the park tomorrow," asks Jordan? "Can we mommy," Holden asks? "I'm sure we can do that if Scott wants to go as well," I say looking at him. "Of course we can go," he says smiling at the kids. They were already taking a shine to Scott and Jordan for that matter. I bathe the kids since they were swimming all day and put on a movie that we watched together while Scott and Jordan talked Army talk. Scott had saved up his leave time so he didn't have to work clear up until he got out of the service. After the movie I tuck the kids in and read them a story. They didn't even make it halfway through before falling asleep. I make it easy books so I can sign it out for Harper and she can understand it. I slip out of the room without waking them. Jordan's dog Brody loves the kids and has been trying to get into the room with them ever since we walked through the door. I walk into the kitchen determined to clean up my mess and I see the guys took care of it for me. I look to the guys who are engrossed in a film on tv and say, "I was going to clean up my mess after I got the kids to bed." "Oh you cooked so we cleaned up," Jordan says. "We weren't doing anything but watching tv so we decided to clean up," says Scott. I come around and sit down by Scott and lay my head on his shoulder. "Man I'm exhausted. I have no idea how you do it all on your own Kat," says Scott. "It's tough but I have my folks if I need help," I say. "Your kids are really well behaved for only being three," Jordan says. "Thank you Jordan, I really try to instill in them manners," I say. "Well it shows how hard you have worked with them. Hell your kids are fluent in ASL at three years old. You are a very strong woman to be doing this pretty much by yourself. I can't even imagine doing it with one but you make it seem easy," Jordan says. "Oh it's far from easy," I say. "Well you're doing amazing job," Scott says. We all sit in a comfortable silence as we watch a movie before heading to bed.
