Chapter 13

Since the kids had turned three we had been working on more signs for Harper and new words for Holden. I'm worried about Holden because he wants to learn signs to be able to help with Harper but he's also learning words for hearing people. I don't want to put to muchh on him at once so we take it slow. Having kids at a young age can make you grow up fast. Your kids pretty much become small best friends. After studying with the kids I let them play outside since it's nice out. I fill up there swimming pool so they can stay cool but before they get in I lather them up with sunscreen. "Mommy, why do we have to have this on? We want to play in the pool," Holden says. "I know baby but mommy doesn't want you to burn," I say. "How will we burn mama," he asks? "The sun makes your skin really hot and red which can turn into a burn," I tell him. "Okay mama," he says. "Okay all done babies. Go on and get into the swimming pool," I say. I watch the kids from the porch as they splashed each other and themselves. They were having so much fun. I love days where I can hang out with my kids. I've been working overtime to be able to afford flying out to see Scott. It's coming up to the time we will leave. In just a few weeks Scott will meet the kids. Everything will work out for the best. After awhile I have the kids get out so I can bathe them and get supper started for the family. I also have to help Corey with a school project before the nights over. The kids play and watch Blue's Clues while I work in the kitchen. Once everyone gets home we sit down at the table for supper. We talk about our day and everything that had happened. We discuss mine and the kid's trip before I clean the kitchen and put the kids to bed. I shower and make sure I have everything ready for in the morning to go to work. I send a quick text to let Scott know that I was heading to bed and would talk to him tomorrow after work. He sends back that he's on duty so he wouldn't be able to text much anyways. I drift off to sleep thinking about the things that I needed to get done before we leave in two weeks. I wake up the next morning to my alarm blaring. I get up and get ready then head to the kids's room to wake them and get them ready for the sitters. Once everyone is ready we head downstairs for a quick breakfast and then out the door we go. I drop the kids off and Tina's and head to work. I get a text when I pull into the parking lot and I see it's from Scott, telling me good morning and that he hopes that I have a good day. I get into work and as soon as I walk in Carol is moving my way. "Oh thank goodness you are here. We have been slammed with to go orders and not enough staff. Marvin and Sara both called in today. So I'm going to need your help on the floor and if you have time I need you in the kitchen helping Louis out," she says. "okay are they sick or something. Carol that's a lot on me during my shift," I say. "I know honey but Karen won't do it because she doesn't want her tips to be docked by the customers," she says. I stand there and think on it and say, "I want to be paid like a prep cook and not a waitress," I say. "Okay you got a deal honey," she says. "Alright I'll go let Louis know so he can stop freaking out," I say. "oh honey how did you know he was freaking out," she asks? "Because Louis freaks out easily," I say walking away. I head into the kitchen and when Louis sees me he smiles great big and says,"Oh thank goodness I finally have help." "I'm here to rescue you Louis," I say. We work efficiently together. We never run into each other. We're always aware of the other. Soon it gets busy and I'm running around trying to waitress and help Louis. I'm so going to regret this once my shift is over. By midday my feet are screaming and I need a nap. I get busy on prep work for the next shift when it slows down. I didn't make as much in tips that I usually do but I'm being paid as a prep cook. So it weighs out for the good. I even stay a little past my shift to help prep for the next waitress but of course Karen doesn't stay or do her prep work so it falls on me. What are they going to do while I'm gone seeing Scott? Honestly I don't care what they do as long as I have a job when I get back. Once I'm done I said a text to Tina saying that I'm on my way and head out. After picking up the kids I decide to take them to the park in town to play for a bit before we head home. I let mom and George know where we are and send a picture to Scott of me and the kids. A few minutes later my phone starts going off and I smile because it is Scott. "Hello." "Hey baby how was work," he asks? "Long our prep cook and a waitress called in sick to day so I had to waitress and be a prep cook," I say. "Damn babe. Are you okay?" "Yeah I'm just exhausted but I decided to take the kids to the park to try and wear them out," I say. "Well there's a big park next to the apartment complex I'm staying at and they have a swimming pool," he says. "Oh the kids will love that. They are my water babies," I say. "Mommy who is that," Holden asks? "It's Scott, do you want to talk to him," I ask? "Yes please. Hi Scott. Mommy took us to the park," he tells him. "Hi buddy. I know your mama told me. Are you having fun? "Yes it's so much fun at the park. Okay bye now Scott," he says. "Well I guess he's done with me," Scott says. At that moment Harper comes up to say hello to Scott as well. "Well babe I need to pack these kids up and head home. I'll call you later," I say. "Okay honey. I love you and I'll talk to you later," he says. After we hang up and load the kids into the car and head home.
