Roseth
For as long as I can remember we were always around each other. We barely did anything without one another. Brushing our teeth, combing our hair, giggling over the smallest, craziest things. It was always us against everything, but as the years passed everything started to changed. **** At seventy eight when your great grandchildren and a writer for the local news paper asks to hear about your past, its not easy. I Sat in my rocking chair with my knitted blanket across my lap. My 12 great grandchildren sat all around me in my living room. The writer, James Newton, sat on an arm chair a few feet away from me, notebook on his lap and pen in his hand waiting patiently. "Grandma" my youngest great grandchild asked softly. "Yes Sarah." I answered "Can you please tell us why my mom is so worried about you?" Her eyes look sad but warm. I knew she didn't mean any harm by what she said, but my daughter should not have said a word to Sarah about my past unless I said so. "My dear Sarah, ill tell you everything along with all your cousins. I believe its time you all should know. I will tell you it wont be easy for you all to hear. If you need to leave the room you don't have to ask." I looked ****** "Roseth, what are you doing!" my nanny shouted from the back door. I looked at my sister Lilith she was holding a rose. "Lilith you know those are mothers favorite. Why are you picking them?" I asked her while slowly moving away from her. I always get blamed for everything she does. We look exactly the same, long blonde hair, bright teal colored eyes. Even though we are six years old we are smart for our age. the only difference between us two is everyone sees me, but not her. Sandra the nanny walked closer to the rose bush Lilith and I were standing at. Lilith still didn't respond to my question. i took a deep breathe in and out, squared my shoulders, and turned around to look at Sandra. "Didn't you hear me calling your name young lady?" Sandra looked at me then noticed the rose on the ground. she took a sharp breath in and slowly let it out. Her eyes held disappointment and she was scared, not for her but for me. mother loves these roses and no one is allowed to touch them but her. "I didn't do it, Lilith did." I tried to plead to Sandra. I even clasped my little hands in front of my body, begging her to believe me. "Roseth no one else is here but you. Let's get you cleaned up. This is not going to look good for either one of us if your mother finds out." Sandra started to walk away while shaking her head. I hung my head lowly while following her. We walked back to the back door of the Victorian house. It has been in my mothers family for generations. My Bedroom is on the forth floor. There were too many rooms to count and even some I wasn't allowed to go in. As we walked up the stairs Lilith stayed next to me. "This is your fault Lilith." I whispered to her as we reached my room. "Go wash up in the bathroom while I get you another dress. Hopefully your mother wont notice." Sandra whispered the last part hoping I wouldn't hear her. I always hear everything that goes on in the house. I walked to the bathroom and took off the dress. I looked at myself in the long mirror, my teal eyes sparkled more than normal today, my lips more red,and my hair more bouncy. That's weird it wasn't like this earlier, I thought to myself. I grabbed a wash cloth from under the sink to started washing the dirt from my arms and legs. Sandra walked in shortly after I finished. "Cheer up Roseth. I know this isn't the best day for you, but try and put a smile on that face of yours. Your mother would be in a better mood if you did." Sandra always knew how to make me smile even if she wasn't really trying. The dress was simple but elegant. the light pink dress complimented my hair and eyes perfectly. As Sandra was helping me get in the dress the sun light was shinning just right and made her shine. Her long brown hair, olive skin, and amber eyes shown brighter with the sun light. I always wished Sandra was my mother, but I knew that it would never happen. "You look beautiful Roseth." Sandra had a few tears in her eyes after she helped me with my dress and hair. I knew I couldn't outshine my mother on this day, but I did feel better knowing Sandra was on my side. After Sandra was done we walked down the stairs to the garden on the far side of the back yard. I could see the gazebo in the distance, it looked beautiful. it was covered with white roses and vines, the lights that covered them made the whole thing glow like magic. I knew mother did this, the isle was decorated the same way as the gazebo. Sandra and I stopped off to the side of the gazebo. She made sure I looked presentable and handed me a basket with white rose petals. I looked to my left and found Lilith next to me smiling. I took a deep breathe in and slowly let it out. Come on Roseth you can do this, just look straight, smile, and place the petals in the isle. I repeated this over and over. The music changed to a more classical softer music, I knew that was my time. I walked down the isle smiling and placing the petals as I go. I stood of to the side of the isle with the basket in hand. The music changed again and everyone stood up. The man at the end of the isle looked at me instead of mother for a few seconds. I shivered under his gaze. Lilith wanted to slap him, I held her back. Mother walked down the isle just then. Her dress trailed behind her beautifully, the dress hugged her curves in the right places, her hair was in a very elaberant up do. Mother slowly walked her way to the gazebo looking at the man in front of her. I slowly looked back at the front to see my soon to be father smiling evilly at me. I whimpered quietly at him. At the end of the service my mother and father walked down the isle again with me and Lilith right after. Suddenly mother tripped and fell over father. I noticed my foot was on the train of her dress. oh no. I thought. I looked at Lilith she was laughing so loudly, I knew she pushed mother now I'll get blamed for it. "Roseth." mother called to me, she brushed herself off and had me come to her. She grabbed my arm tightly and brought me over to the side of the house. father and Sandra followed behind us. Lilith skipped behind us all while throwing roses into the air. Why can't i go a day without her messing it up. I thought to myself. SLAP "What were you thinking!?" SLAP "You just emabaresed me in front of everyone you little tramp!" SLAP "Go to your room, you will have no food for the rest of the night." mother and father walked away back to the party. Sandra gently wipped my tears away and walked me to my room. "It was Lilith. I didn't do it. Lilith pushed mother, my foot just so happened to be there." I tried to tell Sandea in between my tears. Sandra looked at me while she opened my door, "Roseth everyone saw you and only you sweetheart, im sorry." Sandra led the way to my bed and helped me changed into my pajamas. I brushed my hair while avoiding looking at her. Sandra sighed loudly and started to walk out the door. "I'll bring you some food while your mother isn't looking Roseth. I am so sorry dear." she gave me one last small smile and left. I went to my bed and turned off the lights. The music was loud outside sadly my room faced the back yard. The moon was shinning directly at me, I didnt know if their was a moon goddess or not but I did hope she would protect me. At some point i must have fallen asleep while crying. I heard loud music coming from the backyard, the reception must still be going. Sandra knocked on my door while i was looking out the window at the party. "Roseth I brought some food for you." Sandra stepped into my room. The moon was shinning brightly into my room and made Sandra look like an Angel the way the light danced around her. She was still wearing her light green dress from the wedding, im surpised she didn't change. I slowly moved away from the window towards Sandra by my bed. I slowly ate the little food she was able to get me. After she left I fell back asleep with the moon shinning on my face.
