So close yet so far
Lexi smiled happily to herself as she placed the last of her weeks earning in the envelop marked "Travel". She'd been saving since the age of 14 to one day leave her oppressive family to travel the world and experiance as much as she could. She'd finally done it, after all this time Lexi had finally saved enough to make her dream a reality.
Like the rest of her family Lexi had olive skin and black hair. Her brother all had similar harsh angular faces with dark brown eye like Edward. Lexi however, closly resembled her mother with high cheek bones, light green eyes, and a sprinkling of freckles. She was also almost a foot shorter then the rest of her family coming in at 5'2".
In her pack she-wolfs were often treated as less then their male counterparts. While the sentiment had recently been shifting with the rise of a new young alpha Named Rex. Unfortunately, for Lexi she was born into a conservative family where she was considered little more then a maid. Her mother Diana had died birthing Lexi which was normally unheard of, but because her father Edward had refused to let Diana go to the pack hospital he'd unfortunately robbed Lexi of the only other frmale presence in her home.
Now all Lexi wanted was a fresh start far away from her father and four brothers. All she had left to do was wait 3 days, just 3 more days till she was free. As quite as she could Lexi slipped the envlope back into its hiding place wedged under the bottom of her dresser drawer.
"Girl! where's dinner!" boomed Edward.
Lexi knew better then to verbally respond to her father. All responding had ever done was get her hit or a cruel remark. Lexi scrambled up the smooth basement steps quickly preparing dinner for her father and brothers.
Once she had dinner on the table she called out to them that it was time to eat. After Charles her eldest brother entered the room Lexi retreated to the kitchen satisfied that they had heard her. Charles the eldest of her 4 brother was not crule he simply acted like Lexi was a ghost and never spoke to her. Haden the second eldest was the pack gamma and the only brother to show Lexi any real kindness. Zack and Elijah were only a year older then Lexi and were by far the cruelest.
When Lexi was little she had tried so hard to bond with her family but learned quickly to keep her distance. Zack had once tied her up while Eli held a lighter to her skin. Her father had walked into the back yard to find out what all the crying had been about only to tell the boys to let her out soon so she could do her work. That was the first clear memory Lexi had of hoping her father would save her.
While lost in her thoughts about the past Lexis father started yelling for her. Shaking her head to clear the memory she shuffled into the dinning room with her head down making sure to not make eye contact.
" Let me see you girl" barked her father.
Lexi stood stock still feeling him assessing her. Did he remeber her 18th birthday was fast approaching? She wasn't optimistic enough to hope for any real acknowledgment of the day except maybe some isults hurled at her about how she was the reason Edwards mate was dead.
"Remind me girl how old are you?"
"18 in three days time sir" She replied keeping her eyes firmly locked on her too big shoes (a hand me down from Haden).
" In three days all the unmated males in the pack will come by, you best hope you find your mate girl or you'll be homeless." Edward sneered making it clear there was no room for rebuttle. He waved his hand signaling he and her brothers were done eating.
With the ease developed from years of routine she cleared the table setting aside the meager leftovers for her own dinner. While scarfing down the little Lexi had she sent a silent prayer to the moon godess pleading that her mate was not amongst the pack males.
