●[FULL CHAPTER-].The Unexpected News
CHAPTER 1
Primetime the sun over the city of Durban was shining brightly, casting a warm glow over the big streets.Senzo,a 18-year old high-school student, was walking home from soccer practice, feeling happy and energized. He had scored a goal during practice and was looking forwad to celebrating with his friends.
As he walked into his house,he was greeted by his mom, Magumede, who was busy cooking dinner in the kitchen. His sister Zenande, was sitting at the dining table, doing her homework. Senzo's friend,Thabiso, was sitting on couch, watching TV.
Just then, the door bell rang.It was Zama,Senzo's girlfriend, who had just arrived from her hometown of Ixopo. She was visiting Senzo for the weekend and had brought her best friend,Zintle, along with her.Zintle was from Gauteng,in the town of springs, and was excited to explore Durban with Zama.
As they all sat down to dinner together,Senzo couldn't help but feel grateful for the people in his life.He had a loving family, supportive friends, and beautiful girlfriend who loved him for who he was.
But little did Senzo know, his life was about to take a dramatic turn.Zama had also came with unexpected news to share with him, news that would change their lives forever.
As they finished dinner and began to clear the table,Zama looked at Senzo with a nervous expression. "Senzo, can I...talk to you for a minute,?"She asked, her voice shaking slightly.
Senzo's heart really skipped a beat as he wondered what was wrong, his head wandered not knowing what Zama wanted to say as he saw her face unusual.Of course,..Zama.What's up"? he asked, feeling a sense of trepidation.
Zama took a deep breath before speaking. "I'm pregnant,Senzo," she said, her voice barely above whisper.
The room fell silent, with only the sound of Thabiso's TV show breaking the silence.
Senzo's eyes widened in shock, and he felt like he had been punched in the gut.
"What?" Senzo exclaimed, his voice shaking with emotion. "How did this happen ?"
Zama looked down at her feet, tears welling up in her eyes. " I'm sorry,Senzo.I didn't mean for this to happen.,I'm so sorry,"her eyes was full of tears.
Senzo's mom,Magumede, stood up and walked over to Zama. "Zama, listen sweetie, don't apologize. This is not your fault. We'll get through this together, as a family."
As they all hugged each other tightly,Senzo felt a sense of uncertainty about their future.
How would they raise a child?,How would they provide for it? And what about their own dreams and inspirations.
But for now,Senzo just held Zama tightly, trying to process the unexpected news that had suddenly changed their lives forever.
As days went by, Senzo and Zama struggled to come to terms with the unexpected pregnancy.
They had always been careful, but somehow, this had happened.
Senzo's mom,Magumede,decided to be supportive,but Senzo's Dad,Mkhululi, was very furious.
"How could you like, be so irresponsible?", Mkhululi shouted at Senzo. "You're not even finished high school yet...,high school Senzo,"He shouted loudly. So,tell me mfanawami, how are you going to provide for a child,as you're a child too?"
"Mkhululi !," Magumede said...
"No, My love if a child did what is wrong, that child need to be warned like that,Senzo is a grown boy now ,he got mind to think",
Senzo felt a surge of anger and frustration.
"I'm sorry, dad.I know I made a mistake. But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it right",
Mkhululi shook his head.
"I'm glad that you can see your mistake here..a very big mistake,my son,"
Mkhululi said
As the tension continued to build in the house,
Senzo and Zama decided to take a break and get out of the house, they walked to the nearby beach, enjoying the cool ocean breeze and the sound crashing against the shore.
As they walked,Zama turned to Senzo and asked,"What are we going to do,Senzo?,like how are we going to raise a child?"
Senzo took a deep breath and looked out at the ocean. "I don't know,Zama. But I do know that we'll figure it out together. yes..we'll try to make it work my love."
Zama, nodded, looking relieved." I know we will Senzo.I also just wish your dad would understand. "
Senzo, sighed." I know, Zama. But he'll come around eventually. He just need some time to process everything."
As they continued to walk and talk,Senzo felt a sense of determination wash over him.He was going to be a father even though he was a child too,but he was going to try to do everything in his power to provide for his child and make sure they had a happy and healthy life.
But just as things were starting to look up,
Senzo received some devastating news. His soccer scholarship to a top university had been revoked due to his pregnancy scandal.
Senzo felt like his world had been turned upside down.Soccer was his passion, and he had always dreamed of playing professionally.
But now,it seemed like that dream was slipping away from him.
"What I'm going to do,Zama"? Senzo asked feeling desperate."I've lost my scholarship.
I don't know how I'm going to provide for our child,"
Zama looked at him with tears in her eyes.
"We'll figure it out,Senzo,we'll make it work.
We have to."
But as they hugged each other tightly, Senzo couldn't shake the feeling that their lives were about to get a whole lot tougher.
As days went by,Senzo and Zama struggled to come to terms with reality of their situation. They had to navigate the challenges of an unexpected pregnancy, while also dealing with the stress of finishing high school.
Senzo's parents were still trying to wrap their heads around news, and the tension in the household was palpable.Senzo's friends at school were also starting to find out, and he could feel their eyes on him whenever he walked down the hallway.
Zama,on the other hand, was trying to stay positive. She had always dreamed of being a mother, and she was determined to make the best of their situation.
But despite their best efforts, the stresses and anxieties were also starting to take part on their relationship. They were arguing more frequently, and the tension between them was growing rapidly day by day.
One day,as they were walking home from school,Zama turned to Senzo and said, "I don't know how much more of this I can take. The stress, arguing...like..it's all just overwhelming
."
Senzo looked at her, feeling a pang of guilt and regret. He knew he hadn't been the most supportive partner lately, and he was determined to do better.
"Hey,I'm sorry," he said, taking her hand in his. "I know I haven't been the best partner kuwe lately. But I promise you,Zama,I'm going to do everything in my power to make this work.
We'll get through this together."
Zama looked up at him,her eyes shining with tears," ilove you,Senzo," she said, her voice barely above whisper.
"Ilove you too,Zama," Senzo replied, pulling her into a tight hug.
As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms,Senzo, felt a sense of determination wash over him,He was going to be the father and must do everything in his power to make this work,to provide for Zama and their unborn child, and to build a happy and stable life for them all.
But little did Senzo know, their biggest challenge was yet to come.A challenge that would test their love, their strength, and their resolve in ways they never thought possible.
As days turned into weeks, Senzo and Zama's relationship continued to face challenges. They were struggling to balance their school work, their relationship, and the impending arrival of their baby.
One day, Senzo,'s soccer coach.Mr Maduna, called him into his office after practice. "Senzo,I've been hearing rumors that you're expecting a child with your girl friend, "he said, looking at Senzo with serious expression.
Senzo felt a surge of enxiety, but he nodded bravely. "Yes, coach it's true".
Mr Maduna sighed, "Senzo, I'm not going to sugarcoat it.this one is a very tough situation. But I want to you to know that you're a child, somethings will be confusing so don't just stay away from those who're older than you, they will give you advises ,especially your parents.
"It's only my dad who do not understand, but I hope he'll ",Senzo replied.
But just as things were starting to look up, Senzo received some devastating news. His school's principal,Mrs Mthethwa, had called him into her office to inform him that he was being kicked off the soccer team.
"Senzo,I'm afraid you're no longer eligible to play on a soccer team," She said, her voice firm but sympathetic. "Your situation mntanam is....so complicated, and we can't have you playing on the team while you're dealing with this."
Senzo felt like he had been punched in the gut.
Soccer was his passion, his escape, and his future.without it,he felt lost and uncertain.
"What am I suppose to do now,?"he asked, feeling desperate.
Mrs Mthethwa, looked at him, with a kind expression. "Senzo, you need to focus on your education and your future, you have a child on the way,and you need to be responsible.
Senzo nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over him.He was going to do whatever that is good to provide for his child and build a better future for himself and Zama.
But as he walked out of the principals office, he couldn't shake the feeling that his life was about to get a whole lot tougher.
Senzo walked out of the principal's office, feeling defeated and lost.He had always dreamed of dreaming of playing professional soccer, and now it seemed like that dream was really slipping away from him.
As he walked down the hallway, he saw Zama waiting for him by the lockers. She looked concerned, and Senzo knew that she had heard the news.
"Hey,what's wrong,?"she asked,as Senzo approached her.
Senzo sighed, feeling a lump form in his throat. "I got kicked off the soccer team,"he said ,trying to hold back tears.
Zama's expression softened, and she wrapped her arms around Senzo. "I'm so sorry,Senzo,"She said, holding him tightly. "This is not fair.you're an amazing player, and you deserve to be on that team."
Senzo felt a surge of gratitude towards Zama.
She was always there for him, supporting him,and encouraging him to pursue his dreams.
As they hugged,Senzo felt a sense of determination wash over him.He was not going to let this setback hold him back.He was going to find a way to make his dreams happen, no matter what.
But just as they were about to walk away,Senzo's phone buzzed. He looked at the screen, and his heart beat faster.it was a text from his dad,Mkhululi.
"Senzo,we need to talk,"the text read."meet me at home after-school.we have a lot to discuss. "
Senzo felt a sense of trepidation. What did his dad want to talk about? Was it about the soccer team?or...what?
He looked at Zama, who was watching him with concern."Whats wrong?",she asked.
Senzo sighed, feeling a sense of uncertainty,
"My dad wants to talk to me,"he said."I don't know what it's about, but I have the feeling it's not good".
Zama's expression turned concerned."do you think it's about the soccer team?".She asked, her voice soft.
"I don't know, but what if it's something worse?,what if my dad is going to tell me to move away or something?"
Zama put a reassuring hand on his arm.
"Senzo, don't worry.whatever it is,we'll face it together.you're not alone in this."
Senzo smiled weakly, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Zama. She was always there for him, supporting him and encouraging him to be his best self.
Just then,Senzo's phone buzzed again. it was a text from his dad again,"Senzo,I'm waiting for you at home..just come straight here after school."
Senzo's heart beat faster. This was it. He was going to have face whatever his dad had to say.
He took a deep breath, feeling a sense of determination wash over him.He was ready to face whatever came next.
As he stepped into the dimly lit living room, Senzo's eyes locked onto his father's stern expression. His dad, a tall, imposing figure with a commanding presence, sat on the worn couch, his arms crossed over his chest. The air was thick with tension, and Senzo could feel his heart pounding in his chest.
"Sit down, Senzo," his father said, his deep voice firm but controlled.
Senzo hesitated for a moment before taking a seat in the armchair opposite his father. He tried to meet his dad's gaze, but his eyes kept darting away, as if searching for an escape route.
"So, Senzo," his father began, his voice measured, "I hear you've been thinking about dropping out of school to pursue a career in...nursing?"
Senzo's eyes snapped back to his father's, and he felt a surge of defensiveness. "It's not just about dropping out, Dad," he said, trying to keep his voice steady. "I've been thinking about this a lot, and I really feel like nursing is what I'm meant to do."His father raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Nursing, Senzo? Really? You're a smart kid, you could do so much better than that. What about engineering, or medicine? Something with a future."
Senzo felt a familiar frustration rising up inside him. His dad never listened, never tried to understand. "Dad, you don't get it," he said, trying to keep his cool. "Nursing isn't just about taking care of people, it's about making a difference. And it's not just about the patients, it's about the families, the communities...it's about making a real impact."
His father snorted, a dismissive sound. "Impact? Senzo, you're not going to change the world by changing bedpans. You need to think about your future, about getting a good job, making a good living..."
Senzo felt his anger boiling over, but he took a deep breath and tried to calm down. He knew that getting defensive wouldn't help, wouldn't make his dad listen. So he tried a different tack.
"Dad, I know you want the best for me, but you have to trust me on this. I've thought it through, I've researched it, I've even spoken to some nurses...this is what I want to do. And I'm willing to work hard to make it happen."
His father's expression softened slightly, and for a moment, Senzo thought he saw a glimmer of understanding. But then his dad's face hardened again, and he shook his head.
"I don't know, Senzo. I just don't know..."His father raised an eyebrow, skepticism etched on his face. "Nursing, Senzo? Really? You're a bright kid, you could do so much better than that. What about medicine, or engineering? Something with a real future?"
Senzo felt a familiar frustration rising up inside him. His dad had always pushed him to pursue a "respectable" career, something that would bring in a good income and prestige. But Senzo's heart wasn't in it. He had always been drawn to helping others, to making a difference in people's lives.
"Dad, you don't understand," Senzo said, trying to keep his cool. "Nursing isn't just about taking care of sick people. It's about making a difference, about being there for people when they need it most. And it's not just about the patients, it's about the families, the communities...it's about making a real impact."
His father snorted, a dismissive look on his face. "Impact? Senzo, you're not going to change the world by being a nurse. You need to think about your future, about what's going to set you up for success."
Senzo felt a surge of anger, but he took a deep breath and tried to calm down. He knew that his dad wasn't going to understand, not yet. But he was determined to prove him wrong.Senzo felt a surge of excitement and relief at his father's words. He knew it wouldn't be easy, but he was willing to do whatever it took to pursue his dream.
Just then, his phone buzzed with a text from his friends, Themba and Sibusiso. "Yo, Senzo! What's up? We're hanging out at the park. Come join us!"
Senzo smiled, feeling a sense of normalcy wash over him. He texted back, "Hey guys! Just had a talk with my dad about nursing school. I'll fill you in when I see you. Be there soon!"
He grabbed his backpack and headed out the door, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. His friends would be supportive, he knew. They had always been there for him, no matter what.
When he arrived at the park, Themba and Sibusiso were lounging on a bench, tossing a soccer ball back and forth. They grinned at Senzo as he approached.
"What's up, man?" Themba asked, as Senzo sat down beside them.
Senzo filled them in on his conversation with his father, and his friends listened intently. When he finished, Sibusiso nodded thoughtfully.
"That's cool, Senzo. We're behind you, man. You'll make an awesome nurse!"
Themba chimed in, "Yeah, and think of all the ladies you'll get to meet in scrubs!"
Senzo rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "Shut up, guys. This is serious."
As they sat there, chatting and laughing, Senzo felt a sense of relief wash over him. He had been worried about how his friends would react to his decision to pursue nursing, but now he realized that he had nothing to worry about. They were his friends, and they would support him no matter what.
After a while, Themba stood up and stretched. "I'm starving, guys. Let's go grab some food."
Sibusiso and Senzo nodded in agreement, and the three of them set off towards the nearby food stalls. As they walked, Senzo couldn't help but feel grateful for his friends. They had been through thick and thin together, and he knew that he could always count on them.
When they arrived at the food stalls, Senzo's stomach growled at the sight of the delicious food on offer. He ordered a plate of fried chicken and chips, and sat down with his friends to eat.
As they ate, Themba and Sibusiso asked Senzo more questions about his decision to pursue nursing. Senzo was happy to share his thoughts and feelings with them, and he appreciated their interest and support.
After they finished eating, the three friends decided to take a walk around the park. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm orange glow over the landscape. Senzo felt at peace, surrounded by his friends and the beauty of nature.
As they walked, Sibusiso turned to Senzo and asked, "So, have you thought about where you're going to study nursing?"
Senzo nodded. "Yeah, I've been looking into it. There are a few different options, but I'm thinking about applying to the University of KwaZulu-Natal."
Themba's eyes lit up. "That's a great choice, Senzo! My cousin studied there and she loved it."
Sibusiso nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's a great university. You'll get a good education and have plenty of opportunities to gain practical experience."
Senzo smiled, feeling grateful for his friends' support and encouragement. He knew that he still had a long way to go, but with his friends by his side, he felt confident that he could overcome any obstacle.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the three friends made their way back to the entrance of the park. They said their goodbyes and promised to meet up again soon.
Senzo walked home, feeling more positive and motivated than he had in weeks. He knew that he still had a lot of hard work ahead of him, but he was ready for the challenge. He was determined to succeed, not just for himself, but for his friends and family who had supported him every step of the way.
As he drifted off to sleep that night, Senzo felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over him. He knew that he had made the right decision, and he was excited to see what the future held.
As they sat there, chatting and laughing, Senzo felt a sense of relief wash over him. He had been so worried about how his father would react, but now that he had his friends' support, he felt like he could handle anything.
Themba, who had always been the jokester of the group, started teasing Senzo about his future nursing career. "Hey, Senzo, you're going to have to wear those funny shoes and everything!" he said, chuckling.
Sibusiso, who was always the voice of reason, chimed in, "Hey, come on, Themba. Nursing is a tough job. Senzo's going to have to work hard to make it."
Senzo smiled, feeling grateful for his friends' banter. It was just what he needed to take his mind off things.
As they sat there, a group of girls walked by, eyeing the boys with interest. Themba, always the charmer, flashed them a smile and waved. "Hey, ladies! What's up?"
The girls giggled and waved back, and Senzo rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "Themba, you're such a show-off."
Themba grinned. "Hey, someone's got to represent the group."
Sibusiso chuckled. "Yeah, and it's always Themba, the ladies' man."
The boys laughed and joked around, enjoying each other's company. As they sat there, Senzo felt a sense of contentment wash over him. He was glad to have such good friends by his side.
After a while, the boys decided to grab some food at a nearby café. As they walked in, Senzo spotted a flyer on the bulletin board. "Hey, guys, check this out," he said, pointing to the flyer.
It was an advertisement for a nursing program at a local university. Senzo's heart skipped a beat as he read through the requirements and benefits. This could be his chance to pursue his dream.
"Guys, I think I found something," Senzo said, his voice filled with excitement.
Themba and Sibusiso turned to him, curious. "What is it?" Themba asked.
Senzo showed them the flyer, and they read through it together. As they did, Senzo could see the excitement building in their eyes.
"Senzo, this is perfect," Sibusiso said, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "You have to apply."
Themba nodded in agreement. "Yeah, man, this is your chance. You can't let it slip away."
Senzo felt a surge of determination. He was going to apply to that program, no matter what. He was going to pursue his dream, and he was going to make it happen.
As they left the cafe, Senzo felt a sense of purpose that he had never felt before. He knew what he wanted, and he was going to go after it. And with his friends by his side, he knew he could conquer anything.
As they walked out of the cafe. Senzo felt a sense of excitement and anticipation. He had found a program that could help him achieve his dream of becoming a nurse, and he was determined to make it happen.
Themba and Sibusiso walked alongside him, chatting and laughing as they went. They were both excited for Senzo, and they were eager to support him every step of the way.
As they walked, Senzo couldn't help but think about all the things he needed to do. He needed to apply to the program, and he needed to make sure he met all the requirements. He needed to get his transcripts and letters of recommendation, and he needed to write a personal statement.
But despite all the work ahead of him, Senzo felt a sense of calm and confidence. He knew that he could do it, and he knew that he had the support of his friends.
As they approached Senzo's house, Themba turned to him and said, "Hey, man, we're going to help you with your application. We'll study with you, and we'll help you practice your interview skills."
Sibusiso nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we're going to make sure you get into that program. We'll do whatever it takes."
Senzo smiled, feeling grateful for his friends. "Thanks, guys. That means a lot to me."
As they said their goodbyes, Senzo felt a sense of determination and purpose. He was going to apply to that program, and he was going to make it happen. And with the support of his friends, he knew he could conquer anything.
The next day, Senzo started working on his application. He spent hours researching the program and writing his personal statement. He asked his teachers for letters of recommendation, and he made sure his transcripts were in order.
As he worked, Senzo felt a sense of excitement and anticipation. He was one step closer to achieving his dream, and he couldn't wait to see what the future held.
Themba and Sibusiso came over to study with him, and together they pored over textbooks and notes. They quizzed each other on nursing terminology and concepts, and they practiced their interview skills.
As the days turned into weeks, Senzo felt more and more confident. He knew he had worked hard, and he knew he was prepared. He was ready to submit his application and take the next step towards becoming a nurse.
Finally, the day arrived when Senzo was ready to submit his application. He took a deep breath, gathered his documents, and headed to the university's admissions office.
As he walked in, Senzo felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. He had worked hard to get to this point, and he was ready to take the next step.
He handed in his application, and the admissions officer smiled and congratulated him. "Good luck, Senzo. We'll be in touch soon."
Senzo smiled and thanked her, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. He knew that he had done everything he could, and now all he could do was wait.
As he walked out of the office, Senzo felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. He had taken a big step towards achieving his dream, and he was ready for whatever came next.
Themba and Sibusiso were waiting for him outside, grinning from ear to ear. "How did it go?" Themba asked, as Senzo approached.
Senzo smiled and nodded. "It went great. I submitted my application, and now all I can do is wait."
Sibusiso clapped him on the back. "You're going to get in, Senzo. I just know it."
Themba nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you're going to make an awesome nurse. We're all proud of you, man."
Senzo smiled, feeling grateful for his friends. He knew that he couldn't have done it without them, and he was glad to have them by his side.
As they walked away from the university, Senzo felt a sense of excitement and anticipation. He knew that he had taken a big step towards achieving his dream, and he was ready for whatever came next.
But deep down, he was grateful for his friends' support. He knew that with them by his side, he could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As Senzo walked away from the university with his friends, he couldn't help but think about his girlfriend, Zama. They had been together for a few years now, and Senzo loved her more and more each day.
Zama was a beautiful and intelligent young woman who was still trying to find a job in her field. She had graduated from university a year ago, but despite her best efforts, she hadn't been able to land a job yet.
Senzo knew that Zama was feeling frustrated and discouraged, and he wanted to do everything he could to support her. He had been encouraging her to keep applying and to not give up, and he had also been helping her to practice her interview skills.
As he walked, Senzo couldn't help but think about how much he loved Zama. He loved her kind heart, her beautiful smile, and her infectious laugh. He loved the way she made him feel when they were together, like he was the only person in the world.
When he got home, Senzo decided to call Zama and see how she was doing. She answered on the first ring, and Senzo could hear the sound of frustration in her voice.
"Hey, babe," she said. "I'm so glad you called. I just had the worst day ever. I applied to five different jobs, and I didn't get a single callback."
Senzo's heart went out to her, and he wanted to do everything he could to make her feel better. "I'm so sorry, Zama," he said. "That sounds really tough. But don't give up, okay? You're an amazing person, and you deserve to find a job that you love."
Zama sighed, and Senzo could hear the sound of tears in her voice. "I just feel like I'm never going to find a job, Senzo," she said. "I feel like I'm just not good enough."
Senzo's heart broke at her words, and he wanted to do everything he could to reassure her. "Zama, you are more than good enough," he said. "You are an incredible person, and you have so much to offer. Don't give up, okay? We'll get through this together."
As Senzo and Zama continued to talk, they couldn't help but think about their future together. They had been dating for a few years, and they were starting to think about taking their relationship to the next level.
One thing that was on their minds was the possibility of having children. They were both still in their teenage years, but they knew that they wanted to have kids someday.
"I'm scared, Senzo," Zama said, her voice trembling. "I don't know if I'm ready to be a parent. I'm still in school, and I don't know if I can handle the responsibility of taking care of a child."
Senzo nodded understandingly. "I know, Zama. I'm scared too. But we'll face it together, okay? We'll figure it out as we go."
Zama smiled weakly. "I hope so, Senzo. I really do."
As they talked, Senzo couldn't help but think about how much his life was going to change. He was going to be a nurse, and he was going to have a family. It was a lot to take in, but he was excited for the challenge.
"I love you, Zama," Senzo said, his voice filled with emotion.
"I love you too, Senzo," Zama replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
As they hung up the phone, Senzo couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. He was ready
