Chapter One: Interview Day
Orion stands in front of N Corps and exhales, running a hand down the front of his suit. He smoothens the lapels and adjusts his shoulders, staring up at the tall buildings.
Today is a big day.
Successfully landing an interview with one of the biggest companies in the advancing financial world meant he had essentially secured the moneybag of a lifetime.
N Corps has been dominating the business, health, and tech sectors for the last four years. Their annual earnings were in the net worth of billions—a success achieved by their CEO, who is barely twenty-two.
This rapid success had shocked the world. N Corps is richly diversified into three corporate companies that operate independently but report back to the head.
Three skyscraper buildings have been designed with a specific vision: the towers rose thirty, forty, and thirty floors, housing N-Tech, N-Corps, and N-Health in that order.
The buildings were architecturally constructed to form the large letter 'N.' The design is both amazing and creative, as the structures stood independently, yet their top floors curved to form the striking letter 'N' that is clearly visible from an aerial view.
After swallowing his nervousness, Orion cheered himself mentally, "Well, here goes nothing," and walked in. Blending naturally with the flow of people, Orion enters the corporation.
Taking in the large, well-designed interior, he became nervous. Office workers moved about briskly with files and briefcases, swiping their keycards at the gate to head to the elevators for their respective floors.
Looking around the large ground-floor area, Orion walks toward the reception desk. Rolling his shoulders, he boosted his confidence by recalling the cheers his multiple siblings had given him when he told them about today. Promptly, he greets the women at the desk.
The sitting lady looks older; she is wearing a yellow top and dark pants; her brown hair pulled back in a high ponytail. Her brown eyes assessed him as he placed his hands on the white desk. He gave her a warm smile, and she looks away coldly. The other, seemingly younger lady, greets him back with a smile that complements her blue eyes. She is wearing a cream full suit and a black top, and she welcomes him.
"Hello, how may I help you this morning?" she politely asks.
"I'm here for an interview," Orion answers.
N Corps is doing a massive recruitment this year; more official positions were open, including a special position. People had rushed for it like crazy. The incredible salaries and bonuses had caused massive applications from all over the world.
N Corps is prepared for this, as their requirements hadn't even been strict, leading people to believe they could easily obtain these spots. The heavy recruitment had resulted in a massive cutoff: over a hundred thousand people applied, and only a few hundred were picked. None had yet been chosen for the special position.
The young lady acknowledged him with a nod and opened a large black book on her desk. "What is your name?"
"Orion Axis," he answers.
She nods and types his name into the computer. She bit her lip as she located his name. "Alright, your name is on the list of applicants for the special advisory role."
Orion nods. The Special Adviser role is a position second in command to the entire company; the holder could make decisions on behalf of the CEO, take on massive projects, have special privilege to advise on issues and meetings, and is entitled to a lifetime net worth of billions.
It's an important role; it sets a person to live comfortably for life, but it is limited to just one person, and the interview is going to be conducted by the CEO himself. Lucky him, Orion thought.
"Unfortunately, the CEO is not around, and the interview for this position has been canceled till further notice."
What? Where did that jackass head off to?
Seeing his reaction, she smiles reassuringly. "Don't be afraid. Those who applied for this role have been merged with those who are applying for other official positions in the department."
"Which office will my interview be held in?" Orion asked. Considering his plans had changed, and he wouldn't get to see the CEO, he might as well get into a good department and make a name for himself.
"The main interviews of the day are being held on the 30th and 35th floors. You are going to the 35th floor. Here is your key card; it will serve as your pass through the gate and the elevator. Please use the central elevator."
Orion nods and accepts the card while listening to her. He flips the card and looks over the design and details. The company name is at the front of the card with a tiny silver chip at the left end.
A signature is on the other end of the card, and he flipped it back, tracing his thumb over the words written: N Corporation in logo design.
"That is all, good luck."
Orion smiles at her. "Thank you," he said, tossing the card up and catching it.
He walked to the small electric gates that led to the elevators, the main part of the office, and touched his card to the gate sensor. It beeped, swinging the little door open. He walks to the central elevator and presses the floor button.
The elevator arrives promptly, and he enters, pressing the 35th floor and swiped his card. The door closed. Checking his watch, it read 7:45. He is early, he notes to himself.
The elevator doors opened, revealing a larger area of workspace that was different from the first floor. Orion looks around; the office section, workspaces, and private offices were divided by halls and corridors.
Flowerpots decorated the corridors of the office, and waiting chairs were placed at the side of the open hallway. Few workers moved about; everyone is busy.
A sign is placed in the waiting section, directing interviewees to sit. Orion walked to the section, taking note of the people occupying the seats. They are eight in total, including himself. He sat the furthest from them, observing each one. There are three women; the rest are men.
As he observes, he notices one of the applicants drawing everyone's attention. The male applicant is impeccably dressed in designer wear, his black hair swept back in a parted style.
"He's handsome. I'll give him that," Orion thought, noting the man outshining the blonde lady sitting beside him. His phone vibrates in his pants, drawing his eyes away from the duo. It is definitely the family group chat.
He ignores it, sinking deeper into his thoughts. He'd barely had friends during his childhood, considering the number of times he moved in a year. The only person that stuck, or rather, the only one he desperately wanted to be with, was Nicolas.
Nicolas is the only calm in his somewhat stormy life of crazy siblings, who were far more numerous and older than one would expect. They took care of him since their father brought him home as a baby, raising him and teaching him all they could.
He loved them all, even though there were like sixty-nine of them. Yes, he is the seventieth kid. It's f*****g crazy, but it happened, he reflected. And no, they didn't have just one mother—well, technically, they do. It's just very complicated to explain.
The whole godhood is another universe of explanations, and one Orion hated getting into.
The door to the interview room opened, and a man stepped out. The aura emanating from him as he appeared is domineering; it swallowed them, choking the room.
