Chapter Three

1083 Words
I grabbed a coat as I made my way down the bakery, the wall clocks there says that it was 4:30 am, did this mean that I slept for the whole day? Geez, I was knocked out badly, and even as I made my way down the street I could still feel the threatening pain in my head. I would have preferred to stay indoors today but there would be no peace for me, either I would be forced by my mum to help with her in the bakery or face my father’s wrath when he was back, it was always frightening whenever he was home so it was better I stayed on the street and hustle for money. “You’re late! Elsa screamed at me immediately I walked my way into the club, of course, she had been waiting for me “I’m so sorry, didn’t intend on being late” “You were supposed to be here by three on the dot! “I know, I’m sorry,” I said and took my time to glaze around the quiet club, it was still empty except for the few people that lurk around, and also the music playing in the background was very soothing than the one’s which was always played here at midnight. I turn to catch her staring at me and just as I was making my way to her, she threw another question at me “Why are you wearing a coat in this weather, it's not even cold yet? “I know that” I answered then took my seat on the empty stool in the bar and watched her pour out a drink for me. I gulped down the drink and from the corner of my eyes, I could see her glaring at me “Girl, don’t look at me like that” I said dropping the glass back on the counter “Not until you give me a better explanation and Albert and Daniel are already out there selling some ticket and you’ll know how much you’re going to lose if you don’t go out there and work! I sighed then buried my head in my hand, I know she was saying the truth but I still can’t go out there while my head still aching badly, did I act stupid as mum had said? Wait let me guess…I heard her say then the next thing she pulled off my head warmer, I wore it just to cover my bandaged head. “What happened to Elmer? She glared hard at me “What the hell! Did that son of a b***h hit you again! I shrugged and reached out to pour a drink for myself “What happen this time, Elmer? “Nothing more than the usual beating,” I said and after the first sip, I noticed that she was still staring at me “What? “I need the full detail on what happened” “Of course, you do, well…I only got in to save mum from getting hit” “And got hit afterward? She asked and I raised my wine glass in affirmation “And how did that go, what did he do next, and your mother? “I don’t know, I guess I was knocked pretty well not to find out” “That’s terrible, what about your mum” “I think she’s furious that I got in, you know? And for some seconds Elsa stared at me, it was annoying for her to worry about me this way. “Can you please stop? “Have you taken any aspirin? “Yeah, so quit worrying about me it annoying” “You’re the only one I know who is f*****g mad when someone worries about you, why that? “What good would it do to me? “Elmer…anyone that worries about your wellbeing cares about you” “And why would anyone care? I stare at her from the tip of my glasses, she knows how this conversation ends always so there’s no use having this sort of discussion with me. “People who said they care are a bunch of liars, you know that? And yeah she does, she also have her own experience on that “I’m I also a liar, Elmer? Yeah, she got me, always good at trapping people at dead ends “Give me the ticket? I pushed the glass at the end of the table and stood up “I have a job to run” “You haven’t answered my question” she said handing me over the ticket “Maybe…maybe you’re also a liar, Elsa” I said then grabbed my head warmer and left the club, I didn’t bother to see her reaction. Elsa had been my best friend for years now, she was the first person that had offered to help me out here in the street despite being a bartender and a sexy girl she was the first person that showed me that she cares. Sometimes, I see people judge her on her lifestyle, but they’re wrong. People’s occupation sometimes doesn’t determine how good a person is or should be and I don’t even give a f**k what they think or say, all I know was, that Twenty two-year-old girl crazy girl was my best friend and without her, a lot of things wouldn’t be possible, my job, me…because I know clearly that I wouldn’t have survived that long in the street. And I know that what I had said just now had upset her but sometimes I just can’t control the rage and anger inside of me, it was just terrible. I spent the rest of my evening in the street selling tickets for the show happening tonight, I wasn’t in time though cause I still have half on my ticket with my guess that today’s percentage will be small, it was frustrating, and still, at that, I have a terrible headache. Any minute from now, I was sure I was going to drop dead on the ground "I think today's sales of over" I heard someone say behind me and without turning I already know who it was, Elsa's boyfriend…not a boyfriend though but they both had a thing together, none of them had ever come out to claim each other publicly but that wouldn’t stop the fling between them and I think that the reason Daniel never bothers about the men Elsa hang out with.
